"a new report from Jack March of A Tech Website claims the machine remains in the works"

More like from a 13 year old kid with blog. Come on Macrumors, this site is losing any credibility it has left.

Gold would be awesome, just like Apple users. If you want plastic crap you know where to go.

I don't like the idea of a Tap Pad. iOS input works on touch screens, but would break so much OS X functionality. Hovering is used so much.

Pressure sensitivity that could distinguish between clicking and hovering might work though. It seems the Apple Watch has that, so we might see it.

In trackpad settings you can turn on Tap To Click. I've been using my 2010 MBA this way since I bought it and theres no functionality issues. You can hover just fine. It doesn't select until you tap.

Everyone was saying there wouldn't be a gold iPhone right up until there was one...and then everyone wanted the GOLD one. The GOLD one was sold out for weeks.

Did you miss this part of the article?

"While the claim of multiple color options for this new notebook appears outlandish, MacRumors has reason to believe this information is correct and that Apple has at least considered launching the 12" notebook with several different "special edition" color options. "

And I'm 16...

Credibility? It's a RUMORS site. What did you expect from a site called Macrumors?

Now here is a rumor I like. I'd love a thinner almost MBA like MBP with a retina display, thinner display bezel, space grey.

most fascinating part of this report is that Apple is also planning to change the colours for the first time
I'm not sure that word means what you think it means.

The problem is the Current space grey phones look awful when scratched...

My iPhone 5 in white is looking brand new - well apart from a few dents. and 4 year old macbook is still immaculate.

kewl... A Gold Mac :)

Never seen one of those before.....

If this is a trend, will Apple replace all out current mac's with "Space Grey", "Gold", & "Silver" ?

Who wouldn't want a silver or Gold Mac ? I know i would.

Plus, how can a 12-Ulta slim Mac be actually simmer than an 11-inch ? I guess they mean at the base... but even then we must only be talking about a few inches at most.

This would be like a whole new revolution for Apple if they did this this to all their mac line, even the mac pro, (although for that price it may not need it)

The iMac would look good in Gold or Silver. :)

Why would anyone want a gold laptop?

Half of student buyers are girls. Plus a lot of adult consumers as well. Apple and Tiffany often have stores in the very same malls. The Burberry CEO now runs Apple stores. She might know something about what women shoppers want. Also the Chinese market.

Since apple products are fashion items, these colors would make sense, albeit being snobby.

Anyway, a fanless design... Sounds more like an iPad with integrated keyboard to me. It should come with iOS. I mean you wouldn't build a car without a gearbox if you intend to drive faster, would you.

I don't care about thinner. But if Apple makes something as light or lighter than an MBA 11 with a bigger display and lots more pixels, I'm a likely buyer. Space gray.

With Jobs at the helm, I'd have agreed with you. These days though, I wouldn't put it past them.

Bill Gates said he would like to have Steve's taste. That makes sense. The folks now seem to be into a candy colored electronics company. Maybe they forgot the iPhone 5c already.

You don't have to wait for apple, the asus ux305 already has you covered including a 3k display.

Welcome to the new Apple, form over substance. You can get any color you want, but no 17 inch retina that would actually be a huge work saver for many.
