That's one thing that I don't miss from the iPhone 6s Plus, coming to an X. I hated it because it's inconsistent and many of the apps UIs are cramped to fit 2 panes. Then you get a landscape homescreen but are stuck with a portrait lockscreen.

It's half-assed and messy. Got myself annoyed more times than not forcing to me to lock orientation more often than I need to, now.

That notch though...

I know lots of people say 'you get used to it' and it isn't a problem. I believe you. I do. But I really think it just screams 'un-Apple like compromise' every time I see it, and seeing it like that in a landscape app mode seems... even worse to me. I just hope they eliminate it as soon as they can.

Good news about more landscape mode though.

I personally don’t like landscape anything. If it was an option I’d turn it off for everything except photos and videos.

Hoping for a feature in iOS where I can choose which apps get landscape or not, perhaps a smart landscape lock of sorts.

Seems obvious it would have it don’t get why this is newsworthy.

I wish videos automatically played horizontally, the old videos app used to do it now with the tv app you have to turn off rotation lock.

They could implement it like the YouTube app.

Just put a full sized screen on an iPhone SE with updated internals, for God’s sake!!!

Because this was feature was in question if the iPhone X Plus would support it or not, this rumor somewhat supports that notion. Its not a *major* feature, but nice to have when you want to view documents, webpages, messages, ect in a different format. I used landscape quite regularly with the Plus models.

Even my 6s+ has this feature. But I lock the orientation, because automatic mode doesn't work very well. You can shake it violently, and it still wouldn't know that you've turned it.

My biggest problem with landscape mode for apps has always been it's not universal. Like, unless everything on my phone has a landscape option (which it does not, most notably the music app) it's frustrating more than anything to jump in and out of apps and have to turn the phone when it's not supported. Landscape is important for games, video, etc where it's more natural to expect to turn the phone and leave it for an extended period. It'd be nice for everything else as an option though, but like I said if I have it in landscape and I try to do anything more than likely I'm going to be flipping my phone back to vertical and that's frustrating and will likely keep me using the phone vertical most of the time.

Give us PIP, or split apps! Sometimes I'm watching a tutorial, and I want to take notes, or go text something, etc. I can't believe this isn't a feature yet...

I’ve been hoping for both but nope! If Apple hadn’t screwed up iOS 11 so bad maybe we would’ve gotten both this year. They are are already on the iPad so it’s not as if they can’t. It is implemented really well on my Pixel 2 so I don’t want to hear any of this “phones are too small for that” nonsense, is rather have it than not for convenience sake. I run into so many use cases where I want to have a video playing while doing another task. Two out of three iPhones releasing this year are 6.1 inches and above, the displays are also longer so split screen can take advantage of it.

OMG! that iPhone 5 looks so dinky, now!
It’s a still a great size for a phone, except the screen could be full-sized like on the x. I tried the x and I just don’t like the size and form factor. Especially when using a case. It just feels too big for me, personally. So call it dinky, but for some people bigger is not necessarily better...

Im not sure I understand this article. So what they are saying is, a Plus phone will behave like a Plus phone? (The X plus will also have landscape just like all the previous Plus models). I guess we can all breath a sigh of relief.

(Sometimes I wonder about my reading comprehension) :D
