Can we call it a phablet?
Why? It shouldn’t be any bigger than the other + models. It might even be smaller overall.
Can we call it a phablet?
That notch though...
I know lots of people say 'you get used to it' and it isn't a problem. I believe you. I do. But I really think it just screams 'un-Apple like compromise' every time I see it, and seeing it like that in a landscape app mode seems... even worse to me. I just hope they eliminate it as soon as they can.
Good news about more landscape mode though.
God that notch looks terrible in landscape mode!
But the X Plus is smaller than the 8 PlusWe're honestly getting to this point...

Well the iPad is a lot bigger, and can’t make phone calls. Here we go.. You get to a product in life that makes it almost distinguishable from an iPad screen.. The dreaded words "iPad-like"
It's not long now. Basically meshing the two together almost makes you wonder "Is there really a difference"
Why do people want split screen apps on a phone. Even on the plus models the screen isn't that big.
Not sure why Landscape is not an option on all models? Maybe its a resolution thing? I have an iPhone X and 8+. I love the landsca
Rumors have suggested Apple's upcoming 6.5-inch OLED iPhone, which can be thought of as an "iPhone X Plus" device, will feature a screen resolution of 2688 x 1242 with somewhere around 450 pixels per inch. Comparatively, the current 5.8-inch iPhone X features a screen resolution of 2436 x 1125, and the second-generation device is expected to use the same display.
As with Apple's plus-sized iPhones, the extra screen real estate of the larger 6.5-inch device will enable an iPad-style landscape mode that offers up more available information in apps like Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Stocks when viewed in landscape orientation.

This has been confirmed in data gathered by Brazilian site iHelpBR from the most recent beta versions of iOS 12 and Xcode. The site forced the iOS Simulator tool to run at a resolution of 2688 x 1242 with a PPI of 458 and found that many native apps have been adapted with landscape mode features appropriate for a larger device.
In screenshots, the Contacts and Calendar apps, for example, both feature iPad-style layouts that are currently used in plus-sized devices like the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPhone 8 Plus.

This suggests that Apple plans to treat the "iPhone X Plus" as it does the other larger-screened Plus devices, taking full advantage of the extra display area, and it also confirms that the upcoming device is likely to use the rumored 2688 x 1242 resolution.
Apple first introduced the new landscape mode features in iOS 8 alongside the release of the iPhone 6 Plus, the first larger-screened Plus sized device that Apple launched. Since then, the feature has been limited to the larger iPhone models.
Though the iPhone X's 5.8-inch display is bigger diagonally than the 5.5-inch display of the iPhone 8 Plus and prior plus-sized iPhones, it did not adopt the iPad-like landscape mode features.

This is already a thing on the 6/6s/7/8 plus. I always wondered why it wasn't a thing on the X. I guess this is the answer. They wanted to keep it exclusive to the plus model.
I don’t think they have actually. I think it only just came to the S9 plus this year.
To be honest I only seldom use split screen apps on my iPad.
What I like about iOS is the ability to focus on a single app, though a single task. I couldn't do my job on an iPad and I love the Mac because of windows, but when I use an iOS device I love the fact my app is fullscreen.
Of course it is great to have the ability to run two apps side-by-side on an iPad and some people use an iPad as their daily driver so they really need multitasking.
And on the iPhone, apart from games, I don't know if it is a good idea to use an app in landscape.
Only one of my apps supports landscape on the iPhone (it doesn't work in portrait), and every time I open it for maintenance or add new features I wonder who is happy using it in landscape. Actually I hate doing that and I'd like to make it a portrait only app in the future if I'm able to convince the customer it is the right thing to do.
I use split screen all the time on my iPad, usually having YouTube on a quarter of the screen and whatever else I'm doing on the other three quarters. I just can't imagine splitting the iPhone screen into two tiny screens would provide any kind of useful user experience.
I don't think you can run two apps side by side on a Plus and have a great user experience.
Landscape version of apps like Mail, Calendar or iMessage are useful to some people so it is ok to maintain them but as I stated I don't find myself using the phone in landscape so often.
With iPhone X aspect ratio landscape is even worse, you miss vertical space and many apps do use the native toolbar on top, so you have that space wasted and there isn't much room for content.
The best aspect ratio for landscape usage is iPhone 8+ 5.5'' and that was one of the reason why I went for the Plus instead of iPhone X, only to find out I don't need landscape mode but I do need a smaller phone in my pocket.
I agree. That notch looks horrible.
I agree. When I still had my old Plus iPhone I barely ever used the landscape view in apps and it would actually frustrate me whenever it rotated unintentionally.Nobody wants to rotate their iPhone to landscape to use stock apps. I doubt many people do. I have a plus phone and I've completely forgotten about landscape use. But it's a nice software feature to have I guess.
I've never seen the lock screen on an iPhone X in landscape orientation. The only roughly equivalent time is if you swipe down from the top while in an app in landscape.Sometimes my iPhone X is locked but turned horizontally, when I wake it, the phone shows the time and my notifications in this same horizontal format.
Anyone know why this is and what I'm doing to cause this to happen?
My screen lock is never on and I can't recreate the issue, it just does it randomly.
