According to the linked AppleInsider story, "Though we saw no signs of a base M5 Mac mini, it's unlikely that Apple would introduce only a high-performance M5 Pro model of the device." This whole thing is speculation and tea-leaves-reading and not a roadmap released by Apple detailing what their actual real world plans are.
And THAT is one of the biggest problems with Apple.

It would be so much easier to plan if they would release a @*&^%$* roadmap.

Doesn't matter as much for home users, but it's a nightmare for businesses.

It also makes me wonder if they will make a version with the A18 chip that starts at $499 like the original Mac mini. $499 is almost an impulse buy.
As someone waiting for the M5 Mac mini to buy it, I really hope they don’t replace it for an A18 Mac mini. Also it wouldn’t make much sense to only refresh the M Pro Mac mini…

Why are they pursuing the thinner design on the 2026 MacBook Pros again? I thought we've been through all this before, lol. The Air series should focus on thinness. The Pro series should focus on air flow and cooling as not to throttle the processor under heavy loads. There is no getting around thermal dynamics on this one. Everyone applauded the M series MacBook Pros because they returned to a thicker design and much better cooling than the super thin butterfly keyboard models. Pro laptops should put performance over form, and the Air series should put form over performance.

Eh, I'm pretty happy with the Air putting performance over form too.

(Typing this on a 15" M2 Air, which is the first Air I've used that can handle what I do with it. I'd be happier with a Pro, but not even remotely happier with a Pro price.)

How about Face ID to start? I know they will never bring touchscreen but that is another one that would be amazing. While not revolutionary in terms of "never seen before", they would be revolutionary for a MacBook.

The Face ID sensor package is deeper than the web cam, so it would require a thicker (and therefore heavier) display panel lid.

It would be nice, but I am thinking more the $699 that the M1 MacBook Air goes for new at Walmart.

MacBook's updates became so boring. It is all about the new M version of their chips. Nothing else revolutionary. Typical Tim Cook.
It's been a very long time since any laptop or phone has been "revolutionary". The last major change in personal computing was the shift from X86X64 to ARM. How much more revolutionary do you want? I want to buy devices that work well, not devices where the selling point is only "novelty".

How can they think about releasing M5 based Mac? The M4 is already too fast and embarrasses the competition. They're people, too, so should be allowed to keep their dignity intact.

I am just hoping when the M6 macbooks come out Apple doesn't remove the ports again to accommodate their slimmer design. It's been really nice to not have to carry around dongles.

Well, it's embarassing for the CPU, but the GPU is still far behind the competition, at least for high end models.

That A18 Macbook shouldn't be a Macbook. Should be called an iBook running a variant of iOS.

How can an iPhone chip run macOS? Isn't that physically impossible? In the movies it would lead to a massive explosion.
The underlying architecture is the same. It isn't the weakest chip. It could run macOS. But I don't believe that it will produce the experience that Mac users are expectant of.

What do you mean exactly? The A18 Pro actually offers higher performance and better power efficiency than the M1, making it more than capable. It’s incredible how far ARM chips have come.
