It also makes me wonder if they will make a version with the A18 chip that starts at $499 like the original Mac mini. $499 is almost an impulse buy.
A18 Pro might be viable when it spends 99% of its time connected to a laptop screen, but odds are that wouldn’t be able to drive a Studio Display at full resolution so I doubt they’d go that low for a desktop. It might be fine with an average 4k or lower resolution display, but they’re not going to show that off in an Apple Store.

What do you mean exactly? The A18 Pro actually offers higher performance and better power efficiency than the M1, making it more than capable. It’s incredible how far ARM chips have come.
You’ll probably be limited to a single display, or at best mirrored. Might be fine for a laptop but it’d be pretty limiting for a desktopp

Considering the Apple TV can drive a 4k display with the A15, I think the A18 can most likely do a 5k display. Not to mention, if you are buying a low end $499 Mac mini, you probably aren’t going to be pairing that with a $1599 display.

I’m sure it’s only my old eyes defeating me, but I don’t see a “non-Pro” M5 MacBook Pro there to replace the “non-Pro” M4 MacBook Pro.

I’ve suggested elsewhere that the “low cost” A18 Pro MacBook could take the place of the MacBook Air, allowing the “non-Pro” MacBook Pro slot to be taken by the MacBook Air, meaning the MacBook Pro would only come with a “pro” chip, and start at £1999. Maybe the lack of a non-Pro MacBook Pro in the list is an indication of this?

Perhaps the M5 chip might even be renamed as “M5” (instead of A18Pro), “M5 Air” (for MBA), “M5 Pro/Max” (for MBP). That would be clearer for the potential customer.

When it comes to the Mac Pro - sh*t or get off the pot, Apple. They will not be competitive in the high end if they treat it as an afterthought.

They’ve eroded the trust of the Mac Pro community, likely irreparably, over the last decade. Their heart isn’t in it. The Mac Pro lags behind other products in the lineup. It’s not treated as the halo product it should be. I love the Mac Pro with all my heart, but if you love something - let it go. It feels like time for Apple to cancel the product line.

I hope I’m wrong. I hope they release an absurdly over-engineered powerhouse with an exclusive M5 Extreme. But I doubt it. That’s something Apple Computer, Inc would’ve done. But that company left us long ago.

I don't think anybody really KNOWS what will be in the M5, let alone the M6. Tell me more about both, and maybe I can get excited to upgrade my M1 MBP.

You can draw your own conclusions from the list below! I think Marko's source is off on J704, which seems sure to be M5 MacBook Pro 14" if the patterns hold, which is his whole premise. As you can see, I believe it will be Mac17,2. The "Mac" firmware identifiers (e.g., "Mac17,1") vary in ways that aren't really predictable, but you get the idea.

As you can see, my prediction for the fifth generation leaves open the possibility that the iMac and the base Mini won't get M5 (the tilde ~ in front means it's not on Marko's list), but if they do, then those are likely to be the Apple silicon "J" identifiers for them.

Finally, take note -- the lede is buried here -- those Apple silicon "K" identifiers are the first of their kind. That's got to be a something big, like a redesign for the Apple-silicon MacBook Pro?

Love the performance of the M4 Mac Studio. I own a M1 Studio and was hoping to splurge on the Ultra but it was another huge disappointment like the ones before it so I got a base M4 Studio to hold me over. Amazing little computer. The raytracing on it takes it to another level. Expecting even better performance for the M5 Studio. The Studio is shaping up to be the mixed use Blender and CAD machine for everyone.

The Face ID sensor package is deeper than the web cam, so it would require a thicker (and therefore heavier) display panel lid.
But unlike the webcam, Face ID won't draw complaints if it's viewing you from an upward angle, and MacBooks have plenty of thicker non-display space where the projector/sensor package could be placed: the hinge, say, or the keyboard surround.

Looks like all the Macs are getting M5 which is good. Was not sure whether the iMac and mini will be getting it. Yearly update for all the Macs seems like the way forward with Apple.

Would be nice if Apple releases a bigger iMac sometime in the near future.

I doubt the studios will get an M5 those machines tend to jump a year as there wont be much difference between a M5 Max (If it even happens) and a M4 Max. I'm thinking, more a minor spec bump. M6 is more likely and to be honest that's ages away yet.

Same here. Just got the M4 Mac Mini, should I return it? Is this a credible source?

Even if 100% correct (and there's definitely some speculation there), it's very unlikely a Mac Mini M5 will be available before Spring 2026. And it's also *possible* they bifurcate the line into the Mac Mini A18 Pro and Mac Mini M5 Pro. None of which would motivate me to return a Mac Mini M4 and live with no computer for ~ 9 months.

The source(s) didn’t provide an identifier for an M5 Mini. Only for an M5 Pro Mini.

I think there’s a good possibility the M5 Pro Mini launches first, alongside the M5 Pro/Max MacBook Pro. The M5 Mini might come later, or not at all. My advice would be to not worry about it.

Sorry, I thought I typed pro as well. Yeah I bought the Pro, I can wait until November this year otherwise if the rumors are going towards next year release, I’ll stick with the M4 Pro.

But the ATV doesn't really do much in the way of computing/processing. Just formats and sends the video to a connected device, right?
