Why would they go to the trouble of designing, manufacturing and marketing something like this when they could just make them another version of the AirPods under their own name with their own (white) look and feel and market them as being as "fun" and "reliable" and having the same exact functions as their regular AirPods? Just get rid of the "Beats" brand and save all the duplication. Must be why I'm not in business.

Because Apple doesn't just sell hardware!
The Apple brand means something like "we are the safe choice that will work well for most people most of the time". That means for people who don't know what they want (or don't have strong opinions) the APPLE stuff is probably the best choice.
Beats is for people who do have opinions. Those opinions may be about appearance, or about the "sound" of the device or something else. Apple can't sell something that only a fraction of their users would prefer to AirPods, because that would break the "just choose our ONE product and you'll probably like it" mentality.
