Dare I say the obvious. Apple has battery issues!

  1. From the recent debacle for bad performance slowdown when batteries get old and the iOS slows it down secretly
  2. Wall hugging because batteries don't last terribly long in the multi-background app Meets Jony Ive slim designs
It's time apple moves to some type of a design which allows user replaceable batteries.

It's time to demand ability to swap out batteries and design for that

Hey Apple, here's a genius idea - totally for free. MAKE THE PHONES A LITTLE THICKER ALREADY. Things we want: long battery lives. Things we don't care about: shaving 1mm off of a ****ing phone that's either on our desks or in our pockets 90% of the time ffs

The X is already pretty thick and heavy. Like surprisingly so. The only way I can see this being the case is if they are talking about true depth on the rear camera. I don't see why they would need more power for the front facing cam, unless they wanted more detail with the dot projector or something similar, but I am fine with its accuracy as is right now.

Sounds like a weak excuse for not doing it sooner. If they told the truth they have been using cheap tricks to get by with lower capacity and low quality batteries. There are $50 phones that have 4000 mAh batteries that get about 12+ hours of screen-on time or two weeks+ of standby.

All-screen phones also need to be very grippy; easy to securely hold without slipping because a person is trying to hold the phone without touching the screen...that's edge to edge

So.... If the tech in the iPhone X drains batteries quicker -- thereby getting the battery to the reduced voltage state quicker (and maybe it needs more voltage to being with?) then will the $1000 iPhone X start seeing throttling in a given unit's lifespan, more quickly than the 6/6s did?

One of the reasons I've stuck with my SE and not gone for a 6/6s/7/8/x is the curved sides that Apple seem to have gone with. Makes the phone resemble and function like a slippy bar of soap.

I much prefer the squared edges of my SE. Far more secure when gripping. And this would facilitate narrower bezels like the X too.. enabling you to securely hold the phone, but without covering the screen edges.

If I have to choose between a thinner iPhone and longer battery, I'll go with the second choice, even if it means getting a thicker phone.

How about a better battery and more memory. Cant believe iPhone X comes in a 64GB model for $1K. Thats horrible
No...! You are supposed to say: Datz Stupid...! Datz Stuuuupid...!

Could care less about a better camera, though I’m probably in the minority. I just want longer battery life and native faster charging as far as hardware goes.

Software, on the other hand ..... don’t get me started

Just put the fingerprint sensor on the side button. Then you can have a all screen 16:9 display. Is it really that difficult?

Of course, the writer fails to take into account the probability of optimizing the TruDepth Camera technology to use less energy in the near future.

I would like a cheaper XS Plus without a OLED screen. Dont really care about it since i barely notice a difference (yes i said it) but i dont want to spent what is going to be like 1.349€ on a entry model PHONE

I'm with you. Too much OLED Hype. Micro LED is the future. :apple:

Apple isn’t in the custom smart phone business.

Btw there is a huge difference in screen quality, just sayin.

with jony back at the helm i'd expect smaller batteries, not bigger
Jony is a design guy. It doesn't mean the batteries will necessarily be smaller in size or power. You don't see batteries. For all I care, the entire inside can be a battery if they can figure it out.

It's not the only thing that will necessitate larger batteries, given the iPhone CPU throttling "for battery reasons" nonsense.

If they already need to throttle 1 year old devices to keep battery life at a reasonable level, I don't hold much confidence for future models. Until they changes their way of thinking that a slow phone is better than one with poor battery life, I won't be spending £1000+ on something that in a year may only have 30-50% of the performance it has new.

It's crazy that there are rumors of the 2019 iPhone X that I will likely purchase that year to replace my iPhone X that is not even two months old.

Since it's confirmed Apple slows down old iPhone due to battery wear -- and since you can't pay them to replace a degraded battery unless they consider defective I guess I'll be paying in 2019 unless I try another Android phone.

The more I think about apple's actions the more disappointed I become. I am seriously thinking going android. I cant believe they have either the stupidity or greed to purposely and without any notification slow down iPhones. Apple can cover it with "experience" bs, but it's basically making your perfectly good phone slower. The old days my iPhone battery would just crap out and that was actually better since I would know then I needed to get a new battery.

And wow, they are already throttling the iphone 7!? WTF apple.

All these years later and we're still at about a days worth of battery life or less. You'd expect them to improve over time but they haven't really. Everything else seems to advance except this.
