I'm not one to get a major case of the shakes from how Apple names their devices. Guess I'll never understand why so many people here do.

14 Max and 14 Pro Max are just too easy to mix up. I guarantee you there are plenty of regular users who shorten the existing iPhone X Pro Max to just iPhone X Max. Customer service would be a nightmare with Apple geniuses constantly having to double check: “Did you mean Pro Max or just Max?”.

So glad someone at Apple caught this before it became reality.

Newly discovered references to the iPhone 14 Plus as "iPhone 14 Max" on Apple's website suggest this was the name originally intended for the low-end 6.7-inch device before the company changed its mind at short notice.

As spotted by the Dutch blog iCreate, in two instances on the company's website, Apple refers to the iPhone 14 Plus as the "iPhone 14 Max." Firstly, in a support document that helps users identify their iPhone, the image of iPhone 14 Plus models in five colors is named "iPhone-14-Max-colors."

Secondly, on a page that provides compliance and regulatory information for the company's products, Apple plainly lists "iPhone 14 Max" with the iPhone 14 Plus model number, alongside the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

The iPhone 14 rumor cycle widely referenced the lineup's larger low-end model as the iPhone 14 Max. It was not until a week before Apple's iPhone launch event that a leak suggested it would be called the iPhone 14 Plus instead, re-using the "Plus" name for the first time since the iPhone 8.

The 6.1-inch iPhone 14 and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus share the same features and cameras, with the latter model featuring a larger screen and battery. Apple may have felt that the "Plus" name was better suited for a device that offered all the same features as the smaller variant but in a larger form. The iPhone 14 Plus became available for pre-order earlier this month and will begin arriving to customers on Friday, October 7.

Didn’t Gruber claim essentially the same?

So, for iPhones, “SE” is budget, “pro” is high end, “plus” is a bigger size, unless it’s a pro, then “max” is the bigger size. And just “iPhone” with no modifier is mid size and mid range features.

For iPad, “Air” is mid range (both size and features), “mini” is small, and “iPad” with no modifier is budget, and “pro” is high end with no additional modifier for a bigger size.

For MacBooks, “Air” is budget, “pro” is both mid and high end, there’s no modifier for bigger size, and there’s no “MacBook” without a modifier.

For M series chips, “1” with no modifier is entry level, “pro” is mid range, “max” is high end, and “ultra” is the best.

For Apple Watch, “SE” is budget, “Apple Watch” with no modifiers is mid range for both size and features, and “ultra” is both high end and big.

For AirPods, “AirPod” with no modifier is budget, “pro” is mid range, and “max” is high end and the biggest.

And for TV, “HD” is low end, “4k” is high end, and “plus” refers not to hardware but to a streaming service.

Clear as mud.

So it seems like a last minute change. This is similar to 24" iMac. Remember reading somewhere that the Pink version was named internally as Red in AppleCare documents.

Still waiting for a genuinely miniature iPhone... smaller than the not updated "oh, it's not really mini" iPhone mini. Frankly, there's room in the line for a 5" mini (a small phone) and a 5.6" regular. Big iPhones are not for me. Us small phone lovers want one that disappears when we pocket the thing—a phone you don't want to spend your entire day staring into.
I agree and my 13 mini isn’t small enough!
I want a iPhone 5 with dynamic island!
