Robot vacuum market is super saturated and developed. More than EVs, so good luck.

You know what other market was super saturated and developed?

And a big chunk of the executive suite.

Yep -- gotta start with the head of the snake and work from there

I know the Apple RDF members aren't worried, but they should be.

The amount of "not executing" (let alone at a high level) of late is staggering.

That's a lagging indicator, also, since Apple takes so long doing things in secret.

I feel like there’s often not much of a sense of imagination here. The knee jerk rejection of the idea is strange. There is a home robotics market and it is growing. The utility of these kinds of devices has not even begun to be explored yet. The mopping and vacuum robots are old news at this point. Even window washing robots are several generations old now. There absolutely is an opportunity to innovate in that market space. Will Apple be the one to take advantage of it? Pretty doubtful, but I’d sure like to see what there’re thinking of. Because I guarantee it isn’t what any of us imagine it is.

If it were Apple of 12 years ago I'd be with you...

But..

..I was foolish enough to think they'd "blow us away with AVP"..
Instead we got a wildly overpriced and under executed version of exactly what's already out there.

Stunned they even released that thing.
Even tech podcasters who already have sunk cost in it are basically not using it already.

"All the high price, none of the high priced and well executed product"

Yeah. Totally fair point.

robot vacuums are actually good and have a lot of innovations going on every year. And I refuse to believe Apple can do better on bigger mechanical + electrical hardwares if they can’t even bring an EV out in 2024.

Not to mention Apple’s presence in home devices are.. bad

"Apple is looking for its next big thing..."

How about reasonably priced ram and ssd upgrades.
That would be a big thing.
Well, we can hope that the EU or China will pass some laws regarding this or else it is not happening. Only two governments that have the guts to get Apple to do their bidding.

Apple should just start with a Roomba, then expand to other household appliances.

Now I'm wondering what an Apple kitchen mixer would be like?

You’re not far off. At the moment I believe the Neato floor mapping system is the most useful and innovative on the market, but it’s pretty primitive when it comes to what a device like this COULD do. People may laugh, but Apple absolutely could revolutionize the robot vacuum market. But the likelihood of them actually bringing any such product to market seems very very low.

Roombas have zero artificial intelligence. They don't need any understanding of where they are. They just roll around randomly, and sometimes follow walls. When the battery is low, they roll around randomly until they see the IR base station.

This works surprisingly well because given enough time they will probably hit everywhere at random, and missing a spot isn't normally very noticable.

So making a Roomba smarter won't accomplish much. Meanwhile Apple's pathological aversion to moving parts makes the robot, like the car, a baffling choice. A company that can't put two ports on an iPad is not going to build a robot.

What’s the difference from them compared to roborock and dreame

It's reasonable to expect that a tech company of Apple's size and value will be exploring stuff like this. But honestly, they can't design a slim-bezelled laptop without a grotesque notch in its display, and they seem to be struggling to nail together an OLED tablet in 2024. I don't think I'll hold my breath for R2D2. And considering they just made a ridiculous $4,000 cyborg helmet that no one wants, how much is a dishwashing robot going to set you back? One billion dollars? And will you really want it? - "I'm waiting for v2.0, it'll be $999" 🥱

I thought AR was the next big thing ?!! As for Robots it will be like aCar, they have no expertise and despite the team they got if you don’t have the Vision or the wrong vision this will never happen … Steve Jobs had a vision for TV and a Car which I believe was to make it better than the rest (better useful design with probably a great software that will add services making this car unique) instead the Car was suppose to be fully autonomous and the Vision Pro is a device that is heavy on your head and on your wallet as opposed to Xreal … This robot will never happen because that’s not what Apple do …
