This robot will never happen because that’s not what Apple do …

'Never' is a strong word in the world of tech, but I generally share the sentiment. While I do expect that a company like Apple will be looking at this sort of stuff, I don't expect them to successfully pull it off in my lifetime. And speaking only for myself, I wouldn't ever want one anyway. In my mind Apple would be better off researching a machine that can re-animate Steve Jobs. We might actually get some nicely designed personal electronics with color and spec upgrade options that don't give you a headache when you try to buy them.

Vision Pro is not a failure yet. We'll know in 6 months to a year if killer apps come out for it. I think the first year of the iPhone was limited too.

A robot is too disconnected from anything else Apple does. They should build off of their imaging technology and make a camcorder. The other players have abandoned the field, and DSLRs have serious liabilities when shooting video.

The iPhone was so revolutionary and useful when it was released in 2007 that it was known as the "JesusPhone' .

This article, as hype-tactic as it was at the time, has turned out to be quite prescient:

Sorry I should have said “never under Tim Cook era” who has turned Apple into a vanity company …

Might be interesting to train an AI model soley using Job's texts/presentations/videos/... as input. Once I needed a list of aspirational words so I parsed his graduation speech at Stanford. That was a great list (well before AI was a thing). Could AIJobs return Apple to its days of innovation glory ??????

Coming soon...

It’s quite sad to see Apple running around constantly to try to make the next big thing out of what many are already doing. When Tim came in I said he would look to profiteer off a name - off a legacy. He’s don’t that well, but the cow is well-milked by now. They’ve done some great things for sure, such as Apple Silicon. But unless they can find something truly innovative soon, I think they will slide against the competition. They still hold the advantage of many “locked in” consumers. I am one. That will keep the nose above water, but I don’t personally think they can continue to attract the valuation they once did without something remarkable. At the least I would think they may find fewer people are prepared to pay the Apple Tax on RAM and storage in the future. I don’t think Apple is doomed, but it will need something very special if that Number 1 slot is not going to slip away. Perhaps a new CEO can bring that buzz again?

There is no vision at Apple anymore so nothing will come of this. They just have to keep the ball in play by announcing random stuff until the fed opens the easy money spigot allowing them to restart their financial engineering activity — borrow long and buy back stock.

Oh no… because 9to5Mac mentioned The Jetsons on their version of the original rumour, every single MacRumors post about Apple’s rumoured home droid is going to be emblazoned with an image of Rosie from The Jetsons, isn’t it?

Will take a very long time for Apple to release something like a table top robot. Will be nice if Apple will release something like the Astro from Amazon.

robot vacuums are actually good and have a lot of innovations going on every year. And I refuse to believe Apple can do better on bigger mechanical + electrical hardwares if they can’t even bring an EV out in 2024.

Not to mention Apple’s presence in home devices are.. bad
When it comes to home devices Apple’s biggest obstacle to overcome is themselves. Every device they release only works with other Apple devices. For those bought into the ecosystem it’s no problem but for majority of people it is. Just like Apple junkies have a hard time justifying leaving the walled garden experience of Apple, others are not willing to get rid of smart home devices that have interoperability with other devices. People who for nearly a decade now have invested in setting up smart homes are less likely to throw everything out to buy, let’s face it, overpriced devices that only work in a locked ecosystem.

Please please just don’t! The time is not ripe for a robot. They should just focus on miniaturization of the Vision Pro and stick with that besides investing heavily in Siri/ai. Isn’t that difficult enough?

Apple is like : what’s the Trent to follow ? Ev, let’s make. Now it’s Ai, let’s make. Now it’s Robots, let’s make.

A follower of trends, an innovator of the past. Cook must go home.
And who replaces him? Someone that hasn't built a big company and is unproven? Someone who has so much money they don't care where more goes? Which CEOs do you currently like, and would they give up their jobs? IBM certainly has a good CEO who reinvigorated the company, but no one knows him.

Until Apple starts losing lots of money there is no reason to replace him. There are always ongoing projects that don't leak (at least for awhile). Let them explore.

Elon Musk, of course!

A few years ago, that was the name that got mentioned most often. He was the next Steve Jobs. He actually had vision.

The problem was that he had his own vision, and he would’ve used Apple to pursue that vision, not Steve Jobs’.

Is Steve Jobs came back from the dead, he wouldn’t be suitable either. People would say he’s not like the old Steve Jobs! How do I know this? Because they did that when he was still alive and running Apple.

In all honesty, the interest I have on this is the same that I had on the Apple car: none. An Apple wrist-band or even an Apple Ring, on the other hand, if appropriately priced, would be very interesting.

A robot is not one of the things that I need. Maybe a real cat someday. 😸
Yeah, I wanted to adopt a calm one but having fur everywhere and my furniture scratched… and worst of all, being waken up during the night, made me reconsider it. I need my rest.
