I had this happen too. I have 4 appletv 3s and it only happened on two of them. These were both on Ethernet and the two unaffected were on wifi.

Resetting/restoring didn't work for either. Using the reset settings using my phone as a hotspot worked to fix one and not the other. Then after resetting the last one one more time when switched back to Ethernet, finally worked. I hadn't read this until today and didn't try the Namibia trick. I think I tried one other country without success in addition to resetting airport and my dsl modem as well....
Annoying

I had this happen months ago to my ATV3. I keep fussing with it until it came back. No idea what I did. I couldn't even get it to connect to the router at first- and it sits right on top of the router!

[doublepost=1480794161][/doublepost]Its frustrating..
tried all possible 'R's.. Restore, Reset all settings, Reboot the router, Reconnect ATV, Refresh using iPhone hotspot wifi etc etc.. Cant see a thing except computer and settings icons.
Cant get into iTunes as well, the password is eternally wrong, though it works with Macbook or iPhone. Hence can't change the location too.

is there anything left except returning to the store where i purchased the item?

note: initial set up also took several attempts but finally worked.

thanks in advance,
ravi.

those are the symptoms of no network connection.
The password is wrong because it can't connect apple to verify it.

the other icons will show up as soon as it has network, even if you aren't logged in to anything.

There was a recall of some aTV 3 for bad wi-fi, you could try connecting via ethernet and see if it fixes it for you.

the recall is long over, when i took mine in last February or so, they offered $25 off a new aTV 4, since the wifi on my 3 was broken.

the problem is with the wi-fi hardware in the appleTV, so doesn't matter if your wifi works on the other devices.

your password isn't wrong, the aTV just can't talk to apple to verify it.
since the aTV doesn't hear apple say "That's the correct password" it assumes it's incorrect.

try plugging into wired ethernet,
every problem you're having is a symptom of no internet connection.

Dear Waw,

i gathered more patience, decided to follow your advice and make another attempt in the following manner.
- disconnected wifi.
- enabled personal hotspot in my iPhone
- shared the hotspot wifi with apple tv
- tried to check the connectivity strength, atv asked me to log in with iTunes, i did, and IT WORKED!
- switched back menu button to reach home page, and delighted to see all the apps back in place..:)
- tried the apps, working fine.
- disabled personal hotspot.
- started home wifi router and watched ATV's reaction
- ATV picked up home wifi
- switched back menu button to home page and again delighted to see the apps in place..

my conclusion: often ATV might loose track or may get confused with the surroundings. it might happen after update patches or if there is interference from another ATV connected to the same wifi network. Once it gets lost, it goes to secure mode, just displaying home-sharing option only. To get this back on track, one needs to show it the path to streaming by trying with a different network in any of proven methods such as ethernet or mobile hotspot or a friend's network connection..

Once it gets tuned on any network, then one can disconnect that network and comeback to home network and ATV continues to work.

most required factor in these trials is..patience.

Thank you Waw for your time, and thanks to all forum members for sharing their problems and solutions.

For now the forum may please consider this subject as resolved.

If I may, none of the fixes posted above worked for me. I didn't even have any locations listed in the store so couldn't try that fix.
Ended up telling the atv to 'forget' the wifi connection and then reconnected to it. Problem solved!

[doublepost=1478084547][/doublepost]Go into settings, iTunes Store, Location, and change your location to Namibia. Back out of settings, go back in and change it back to US. It will restore all the apps.

That totally worked!!!

This worked for me, though it blew out my Netflix login and unset my Apple ID in the iTunes Store settings. Worthwhile.

This happened last night to us as well. The Namibia or other country helps some, but I have not been able to find one that fits best. Problem it seems to reset f you restart.
I am glad I read this about location setting as i Am not sure where my original remote is and not sure if resetting/process without original remote has improved. The bump process for network settings has not worked for me in past (it might be only work on a revision that came after I bought mine but not sure). To have done all that and still have issues would have been very aggravating.
[doublepost=1492338109][/doublepost]I have been having internet connection issues for two days, keeps dropping out of Netflix and dropping out on computers too. Tonight it jammed in Netflix and we had to swith the ATV off at the power point. Since restarting I only get Home Sharing, computers and settings. Main menu is empty. I tried the fix suggested above, but when I go to locations that is also empty. Oddly a few weeks back the digital TV option stopped working. Could it be connected and any other suggestions please?

Go to your settings and put in manually a third party DNS server like from Open DNS or Google DNS because that will clean up your problems.

THIS SOLVED EVERYTHING!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! same problem. no app store no nothing working.... does now!

I had this problem with both of my boxes, this is what made me think it had to do with the net connection. I tried all of the troubleshoots, nothing worked. What did work completely and thoroughly was to shut EVERYTHING OFF. Start the ATV FIRST without starting the net. It should start up and give you your menu back. Now you can plug the net back in and everything should be hunky dory.
