MacOSRumors first noted that AppleUniversal.com has been registered, and appears to contain Apple-contact information... however, the domain name servers are not responding to the new domain, and the name was registered through an unsual registrar (for Apple).

That being said, the contact information does reflect Apple's registration information.
unusual?

If this isn't a hoax or a squatter, the reason that it was registered through a different registrar could be that Vivendi, not Apple, arranged the registration.

Ok, here's the WHOIS information lookup that I just got (with the important bit in bold:

REGISTRAR: BULKREGISTER.COM

I guess somebody enjoys fooling us (DA APPLE RUMOR FREAKS) and even wants to pay money for that...

I just want to say to the dude that did this :

"I hope u enjoyed ur very f***ed up joke, SCR*W U!!!"

Well, I guess we have to wait a bit longer for apple to do something, especially on da net, with this domain name :p

Maybe the April Fools content is a double-cross, i.e., Apple wants you to think it's a prank. After the Apple-Universal deal is finalized, they'll remove the "April Fools" phrase and program their domain name servers to honor the domain name.

Of course, maybe what I just said is what they want you to think, and it's really a triple-cross...

Didn't trick some of us... :)

Same Hoax. Different Day.

It's really easy to manipulate the Whois data on these domain registrations. Here's one I did a year ago, as a similar hoax/gag/joke.

The only thing that can't be faked is the name of the registrar... which is what gave me (and this joker) away in the end. :)

well arn, there are always peeps that just can't be fooled, those will always stay :p

And is faking or manipulating domain registrations really easy? Then I would like to know how u would do that, might be usefull sometime :p TNX already...
