It is interesting product, as for myself, having used Apple products as well since they have existed, this is first product in years I have been truly excited for. Reminds me of getting the original iPhone on launch day, and pulling up ESPN on Safari at the bar, took 1-2 minutes just to load the page, but you knew it was the future. We will see for this, but the first product in a long time that is something different.
Definitely one of the most exciting releases for me since the iPad. I was never that excited about the iPhone.

This is fad that will wear off, as it did before. Much like 3D TV keeps getting revived each generation for a short period.

Sticking to the forum post, I am very unhyped about wearing a helmet that makes me sick and uncomfortable over my head.

Also like others i cannot see any way to implement this in my life besides watching 3D TV which makes me sick.
Lol 😂 seems a little melodramatic for a product thats not for you. 🤷🏾‍♂️ Why would something youve never tried before “make you sick”? it’s ridiculous hyperbole. Everything doesnt have to be for everyone.

I think the whole concept of wearing these things is idiotic. Sure the Apple one is built well and looks nice as a device. Culturally is a symbol of a decline in human connection and will lead us down another rabbit hole of people living in their own reality and not knowing how to interact with others. It will create yet another stage for people to shout from at the detriment of others. It’s where the real dystopia starts. Children being born in a few years will wonder how life got to be so crap and this will be the answer. If you can’t see that from the promo video, then we are doomed.
Its the technology’s fault and not the income inequality or the lack of healthcare or the suburbanization of America (and resulting lack of walkability) thats causing people to be socially awkward and miserable. 🤪🤦🏾‍♂️

I’m super hyped for this device, even though I plan to wait for version 2. I will gladly demo version 1 and anxiously await version 2.

personally, for me it’s the apple product I’ve been the least interested in ever (and I actually love VR). Seems like it can’t do a lot for what it is and looks hot and uncomfortable to wear for longer than a few minutes. but I’m curious about the first reviews and wish you that it’s everything you hoped for.

They go hand in hand. With tech like this why do you need walkability? Everything is shippped to you while you live life through a display in each eye. This tech enables the things you are talking about. This tech also funnels money out of this country. Especially Apple that likes to store money overseas to avoid taxes and pays other countries for manufacturing. You can’t have a thriving local economy if all the money is going to foreign nations.

I really envy you, it's a really nice feeling. Unfortunatelly I don't remember last time that an Apple release made me feel like that. Last time I felt that was with the Steam Deck, probably the best product that I bought in the last decade.

I don't think so. I think you are conflating things and misplacing blame. There will always be a need for people to interact with other people in real life. You can't just order the products and sit there all day... to the extent people are doing that they are doing that already and have severe mental issues. The issues I bring up make it far more likely for people to realize the future you are seem to be concerned about.

Can't believe we're just two weeks out from the AVP release. I'm super hyped, haven't been this excited for anything in ages, maybe iPhone 1’s release!? What about you guys? What was the last thing that had you on the edge of your seat at this level? Or is it just me😃

Super jazzed. Fingers crossed they got the UI right.

If so, this may be the last platform UI update ever.

The goggles are really more for developers and enthusiasts. Once they hone the UI, it's clear in say 5 years or so, we will have RayBan type glasses, and this UI will go over that.

If we ever get some kind of brain/eye nerve tap, the visual UI and hand interactions may remain pretty similar. Maybe we get more than just visual senses once it's in your brain, but the visual UI will likely be pretty similar.

We went from flip switches, punch/paper output, command line, GUI, iPhone/touch, and now goggle UI. This might be the end of the line in UI evolution. I hope not, but it might. But it makes me all the more jazzed hoping this thing is it's own 'iphone' level product/moment.

I'm less hyped for this than any new Apple device ever, all the way back to the original iMac.

My guess is a few people will really love it and it will have a few good applications in niche fields, but 90% of the ones sold to consumers will be sitting on a shelf after the novelty wears off and only brought out when a visitor comes over.

Oh, and it would be the first Apple device I would need to get a prescription to use properly.

I wish more responses were like this and as respectful, so thanks for sharing.

Too many people with egos trying to justify why they are right and convince you why you are an idiot and wrong.

Anything with 3D vision and depth makes me sick. I do not need to try Apples ivision pro as its 3D content will make me sick.

Heck i get sick from FPS, Large Lenticular prints. The iVision pro is no exception for me, if i could tolerate it, i probably would have tried one.

🤪😂🤦🏾‍♂️ I read your original post as if it makes you sick that it exists at all. I forgot about the whole VR/3D can make some people actually sick. Im curious as to how Apple will mitigate/fix this beyond a better pass through feature.

It was called HD-DVD. I remember because I bought it thinking that Microsoft's lead with the Xbox 360 was going to help usher it in, and at the time I was somewhat of an evangelist for Microsoft (hence my username reflecting my old project back in 2004) it of course died out, but if I can get Blu-Ray I will. The march towards no physical media is incredibly worrying and it will (and has) had consequences in the past, present, and future. I feel like it will be in style to own physical media again here in a few kind of similar to how record sales are stronger now than they have since well, before I was born, but we will have to see.
I feel like a lot of that is people collecting junk because they have too much money or are over invested in fandom of musicians. You can be a fan without buying stuff that is almost completely 100% useless.

In any case, Im super excited about AVP. I need to build something for it ASAP that I can use for myself.

It continues to astonish me that wanting to own the media you purchase physically can be seen as a bad thing.

Most people buying physical records are buying them as collectors items (i.e. waste). The vast majority of physical music purchasers will use their phones to listen to the records not go out and buy a record/cd/cassette player and play them. That was the point.

In contrast, the AVP buyer is planning to use the product. Therefore the comparison doesnt work.

Some dude once said something like "I dont want to rent my music, I want to own it".

People do not get how much wisdom there is in that. It will take a very long time for some, but eventually they will get why owning nothing is a bad thing.

Things like, people can change history and there is nothing you can do about it when they update their version of starWars changing who shot first, or wikipedia pages with some crap, or change a song and your playlist can only see the new version, or licensing changes, and all the sudden you can never see/play that song/movie/show again... All the sudden, your very own history starts to disappear and nothing you can do about it when you own nothing.

Sure, you can have hoarding for the sake of hoarding, but that's a different topic.

Its not about owning vs renting. Its about owning the right amount of stuff and the right mix of stuff. Having stuff just to have and not actually use doesnt make sense to me. 🤷🏾‍♂️

There is always a risk of access to the music you previously liked being taken away even if you “own it”.

People are buying AVP for using. Its not some moment to pontificate about why people dont want to own records.

Maybe, but even if I agree with you (which I dont think I do) that balance will be different for different people.

If you own a CD, how is it going to be taken away from you?

By eventually deteriorating to the point where the laser can no longer read the metal layer on the inside. Has happened to more than one of my CDs.

Um very Weak. I ripped a pure digital copy that I have multiple backups. This copy will survive decades and the digital copy can survive indefinitely While the original backup, not necessary for use, can survive super long in its case as backup needing only raw use.
