as if you were implying the transition to 64 bit on Linux/Windows was buttery smooth as well LOL

----------

The difference with Apple as opposed to Windows/Linux is that they control the hardware platform as well...that is kinda the entire point of the Apple intergration story..

So yes I would expect their OS to work better on the hardware they have supplied, and that using programs like iWorks which they also supply not have basic bugs which would show in a regression tested environment....

It might be best to focus on positives of the new hardware, I doubt much progress will be made on eliminating the bugs that soon. Apples law suits & other products seems to be of higher priority.

It's hard to focus on the positives when your phone crashes 5-10 times a day in the middle of important things.

I most certainly agree with you, I'm experiencing those same issues on my iPhone.

But I also have been noticing the shift in Apple's actions, once they cared about both their customers and profits, whereas now that they are so incredibly successful they have found they're truly free to only address the problems that impact their customers as Apple deems fit, and whenever they get to it.

Of greater priority is generating more profits for Apple first, knowing they are able to operate consequence free because their customers will continue to buy their iPhone's no matter what. Apples in an enviable position and taking advantage of it. Therefore we, the customer must wait.

Unwilling to be at Apple's mercy, yet unwilling to walk away, my personal solution is one that suits me perfectly. I bought a Galaxy S4, found out just how great it is, and now I'm using it for all my smartphone needs.

Always open minded and eager to use the best tools for my work and personal tech needs, it's Android now that's serving me very well.

Currently using my S4 until the replacement 5S which may or may not have the same problems arrives. It's a great phone but I miss iOS and having a smaller phone.

If Apple finally increases it's tiny screen to a more usable size, like the Highly Useful 5.0" on my S4 I'll be happy to buy another iPhone. After all it was Apple that drove me and many other loyal iPhone users away by refusing to set their ego aside and stay relevant.

The crash rate is not serious enough, and like i said the 5S just came.out.and developers are updating their apps to take advantage of the new A7 SoC, just like last year with Apples A6, apps.needed to be updated to see speed improvements/fully take advantage of the A6, over the A5 chip

And some people have not even experienced these issues so

My 64GB iPhone 5S has had app crashing problems for weeks. Mostly with games like Madden 25 or Injustice, big games. They minimize like I double-clicked the home button. But also with Facebook or Twitter or Safari. I've also had spontaneous activation of Siri, when I don't even touch the phone.

I took it in on Monday and the Genius restored my OS. He told me to bring it in if it acted up again. It did that night. I have an appointment this afternoon. He added a note to the file that said if I come back in to give me a new phone.

This would make me happier if I hadn't read all the posts here about "I'm on my 3rd 5S already" and such. I agree with the comment about Apple QA, they are terrible. Not the first time I've had to have an Apple product replaced.

UPDATE: Yep, he said it was a faulty home button and gave me a new phone. So far, so good.

My iPhone 4S w/ iOS7 experience has been nice but also problematic with apps crashing, stalling, or having to refresh completely even after just a second of multitasking over to one app and then back. I understand I have "old" hardware, but it's still frustrating... I can only imagine how people would feel if they bought a brand new iPhone 5S and experience the same or more annoyances.

.... but but but Apple continues to roll out updates for your phone. That has to be the most important thing right? .... Right ?

What are you on about? What does updates have to do with this story

Mehh, just find it hilarious how Apple always digs at android for lack of updates and fragmentation yet Apple will continuously roll out updates to older hardware at the expense of bugs and crashes.

They'll have you think everything is smooth sailing when they know an iPhone 4 running ios 7 will be a choppy mess.

A terrible argument. You could say the same thing no matter when Apple released the hardware. The fact is, whenever Apple releases the hardware, developers still have to test their software on it.

Possibly. However, giving it to them a couple weeks ahead of time vs a couple months or so could make a world of a difference to the apps.

Maybe because this type of problem is so widespread for Android that it isn't worth reporting on them. That's the ONLY thing you'd ever see on sites like C|Net.

When more serious problems happen to Android phones, you never hear of them... like the Scamscum Galaxy SIII just totally dying for no reason. I never saw one article on any of the mainstream sites talking about that problem. How about the Blackberry Z10's screen completely dying? Again, never heard of that one until I read a review of the phone on a site when I guy had 5 replacements due to the issue.

You can't be serious. Apple normally receives nothing but raves from major news sources you hardly ever hear about defects in Apple products unless you are interested in tech. In fact where do you see a major media Site that has even covered this?

Android is like Windows it supports thousands of different configurations and hardware; apple supports what 3 generations of hardware at a time with iOS? Both systems crash that is a given but android has far more to support.

Please point me in the direction where it says android has wide spread crashing problems.

nonsense, there will always be bumps transitioning to 64 bit, Android will have these issues next year, Apple is way ahead on 64 Bit, sure there are some bumps but nothing that can be ironed out, ARMv8 will be fully implemented and run very well by the time Android comes out with 64 bit for its whole OS

i love the :apple: haters

No I am a realist there is a difference.

For example I think Apple's construction of hardware has yet to be matched their processors are always ahead of the competition and their quality materials used in the manufacturer process is something the competition should look up to. This was my primary draw towards apple in they're heyday. While the competition still continues to use cheap plastic.

Loved the ipods that they have abandoned. classic is unmatched and I use mine daily. I s still don't even see much competition in that market the ipods still rule even without upgrades.

I will also say iOS7 has been quite reliable and I definitely like it more than iOS6 on my iPad 3. The OS isn't as bad as this site makes it out to be.

My problem with Apple stems from poor quality control on software and some hardware. The fact the original iPad touch had iPhone error messages should be a concern. Now perhaps they've improved from that horrible year but who knows. This is where I started to view Apple in a different way.

The fact is:
- android is only limited by the hardware it is run on, you can customize the heck out of it anyway you want.
- android allows customizations for people's needs, specifically the keyboard. Guess what Apple hasn't figured out? that we all have different hands.
- 64bit makes zero difference for consumers, in fact it is further proof that Apple has lost their way. They are actually playing the specs game with the competition, something they never have done.
- Apple is falling more and more behind every year, in fact I think Samsung is the leader in the phone world right now with the note 3 they've done some neat things with it this year.
- iOS 7 is a catch up operating system there is nothing that stands out feature wise compared to the competition.
- still sitting at 4" screen. Again Apple believes our needs are all the same.
- fingerprint sensor, processor updates and camera update is the innovation this company has now?

i agree, but 64 bit right now actually isnt useless and the switch to ARMv8 actually has big improvements including being able to run 32 bit code a little more efficiently and running in 64 bit code gives even more performance improvements
