Hmmmm...

Maybe this is why they've been holding off releasing Photoshop Elements 5 for the Mac? Maybe we'll finally get an Elements that doesn't require Rosetta. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

I've been wondering about this, too...I have delayed upgrading Photoshop Elements until a UB version comes out. I have the very old v. PE 2.0 which I bought w/ my old PC and the installation disc from that version has both PC and Mac versions on it, so I deleted it from my old PC and put it on my new iMac. Can I assume that PE 2.0 will work with Leopard if it runs fine on my new aluminum iMac? If not, Adobe had better get PE 5 out soon.

FileMaker Pro-"FileMaker does not recommend the use of FileMaker 9 products on computers running Mac OS X Leopard"

I'm surprised by this. I would thought companies owned by Apple might actually be the on ball in supporting Apple and the OS.

I thought it might be useful to compile a list of apps we know won't work on Leopard (in case there are any mission-critical apps people need that won't work) and details of when updates are due (if known). Here's the list so far:

SuperDuper! - free update due ASAP after the devs get hold of the final retail copy.
GroupCal - SnerdWare have no idea when this will be updated for Leopard compatibility at this time, something to do with libraries they need being shipped PPC-only in the developer seeds so they haven't been able to work on it at all.
Filemaker Pro 9 - not recommended for use, no fix date as yet.
Papers - Leopard compatibility coming in v1.5.
Niceplayer - doesn't play files in Leopard, at least that is what the trac says
ToolPlayer - crashes, version 0.3 should fix it when it comes out.
Lingon - next version should work in Leopard.
VMware Fusion - may require an update for full compatibility.

Keep 'em coming if you know of any (preferably where you have confirmed directly with the developer regarding compatibility an an expected fix date, if any).

Well amen that's a big yawn for me except for SuperDuper!, which I've only ever used to do a drive upgrade. And that guy will have a compatible version out in like no time. SuperDuper! fans can always just use Time Machine in the interim for safety's sake.

Well, here is an alternative. Boot up to OSX (10.4 will work too) install disk. Open Disk Utility. Save disk as Disk Utility image.

Yep. SuperDuper! is just so one-step easy. For back-ups, people can use Backup if they have .mac. It's a minor deal until SuperDuper! gets fixed.

Can anyone with leopard installed already test these apps please:

- Adobe Cs3 Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, etc.)

- Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Compressor)

- After Effects Cs3

thanks

I really hope NicePlayer works because I love that app. Their project page seems very out of date, so I assume development is pretty much dead at the moment. It would be a real bummer if it didn't work, but maybe the new version of QuickTime included with Leopard will be a little nicer to use (not a big fan, I have to say).

VLC.

I like VLC a lot, but I think it was responsible for two kernel panics I had a while back (the only two I've ever had), so I took it off. It was also quite buggy I found. But maybe it'll play nicer with Leopard on my machine.

iScroll2 won't work. This program enables two-finger scrolling capable machines (PPC powerbooks and ibooks) that Apple never released a firmware upgrade to enable. I'm going to miss this one a lot until the developer updates it

According to a Macworld article, there will be an Adobe Photoshop Elements released in 2008. The version number would be 6, skipping 5, to match with the Windows version. It also would be universal.

The latest release seems quite stable (previous versions did have a tendency to hang), but I've never had any version of VLC cause a kernel panic before, that seems quite unusual. The only stuff I've had cause kernel panics was things that directly plugged into the kernel (e.g. early betas of VMWare and Parallels).

I have had the latest version of VLC kernel panic my SR MBP. (Tiger) Im not saying its a regular thing since its only happened 2-3 times and I start/stop VLC daily but its definitely possible. Just something you notice since its pretty much the only time I reboot and its kinda annoying.

I got to say, I find the idea of VLC causing kernel panics to be quite unlikely. Are you sure its not a symptom of something else you have on your system that's being triggered by VLC maybe?

anyone know if cocktail will work?
Not "out-of-the-box", but with an update coming.

I got this email some time ago, concerning a new version for cocktail for Leopard.
This mail is sent to you who previously have bought a Cocktail
license. If you don't want to receive further e-mails from Maintain
please contact us at cocktail@maintain.se.

Maintain is pleased to announce that the next release of Cocktail
will be shipped later this year. Cocktail 4.0 will be a free upgrade
for existing customers but will require a new serial number. Old
serial numbers will not work with Cocktail 4.0.

By updating your registration information at

http://registration.maintain.se

a new serial number will be e-mailed to you before the release of
Cocktail 4.0.

Cocktail 4.0 will be available in both a Tiger (Mac OS 10.4) and a
Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) edition. The new Cocktail serial number will
work in both editions.

For any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at

VMWare Fusion works fine. Google Earth crashed on startup. Parallels doesn't work but it sucks anyways :p

VLC works fine. Adobe CS3 works.

Nobody is upset that some of their programs are not going to be running or not recommended? I find it interesting that most of the community here pounced on vista trashing it because of some software issues similar to this.

It might be almost better to stick with 10.4 until some of these things are worked out in 10.5 no?

Good, glad you're going to be able to upgrade ASAP. If you look in the list you'll see that the SuperDuper! dev has confirmed an update will be out ASAP after Friday.

@contours: don't sweat it, I'm sure all these will be updated in short order. The reason I did the list was so hopefully no-one will get caught out on day 1 when they can't connect to their work's Exchange server with Groupcal, for example.

Did the community here do that? I've not followed talk about Vista on here because this is supposed to be a Mac site, not a Windows one.

Sure, that is always a good idea. Luckily I have enough Macs to be able to install Leopard on one of them to find out what the issues are before moving en mass to 10.5.

Older version of Transmission don't work, make sure to get 0.90. Mail Unread Bundle doesn't work (small % of people use it, even so, just noting it doesn't work). CS3 works fine.
