I don't know anyone that uses Hangouts, especially those who have iDevices. It hasn't really taken off. With my friends I either Whatsapp, Facebook chat, Kik or iMessage (depending on their device). I love Gmail and I use it daily, but I don't really need Google's attempt at a social network.
GChat/Hangouts is not a social network, it's an IM app/service that uses your gmail account.

iMessage to idevice coworkers/friends
hangout to android coworkers/friends.

*shrug* coworkers and college buddies and friends all seem to have retired AIM/Pidgin/Trillian etc and gravitated to this method due to the free, simplicity and universal nature of it.

I'm not a designer or anything close to it, but i gave it a shot with the grid system.

Edit: I don't know why on the iPhone screenshot it looks like there is a white glow on the border, it shouldn't be there.

Do I have your permission to repost this on blogs and other pages? Need to find a way to get it to go viral. Even if they don't use it, maybe they can make something like it.

What does that have to do with anything?

Thursday has become the App Release day in the same way that DVD/digital downloaded Movies and Music usually come out Tuesdays. There are exceptions, but The App Store usually gets a refresh with new featured Apps and most new apps and major revamps land on Thursdays.

We shall see.

Not trying to stalk the dev's of Tweetbot but found this Tweet interesting. I'd be happy waiting a bit longer for a whole new app design.

@yaynative Most people just updated graphics. We redid the whole app. HUGE difference.

Yeah, no problem ;)

Actually, let me PM you a higher quality image.

Just looking at the last two Thursdays I have had way ore updates on at least a few other days, if not even more than a few, than on those Thursdays. The Apple store might get refreshed and all that, but I'm not really sure there's some sort of a large influx of updates and/or new apps that comes up on days like that.

Thursdays are new apps day, not upgrade day. There :)

Is GMail not popular there?

Why not use GoolgeTalk/Hangouts?

I think in my country it's 50% Gmail and 50% Hotmail/Outlook for private mail. But no one outside of the geekworld even knows what Google Talk or Hangouts is or means! There is only..... Whatsapp ;)

I think he means the App Store refresh, that happens on Thursday at 12 noon PST

Adam.
Does that actually show there are a whole many more apps that get released on Thursdays or that Apple simply updates the apps they "advertise" (which are two different and unrelated things)?

I think it just shuffles the apps about on the app store.

Like I said there are exceptions. Last week for example the store refreshed on Wednesday when iOS 7 dropped.

And FIFA 14 released on Tuesday on all platforms including iOS.

But more often than not major apps update in concert with the App Store refresh that happens on Thursday and major Apps that get a major version update go through then as well.

So. You know. Like I said, we will see.

Thats what I'm curious about--is there anything documented (beyond somewhat random anecdotal observations) that shows there are actually usually noticeably more new apps and/or app updates released on Thursdays? The App Store getting refreshed by itself doesn't really imply that or anything else.

I would really like Tumblr to update their icon to match iOS7. The gloss version annoyed me so much I moved it off my home screen and into a folder.

I'm not going to hold my breath, though.

Here's a fun little tease for the tweetbot app.

I hope we see something sooner rather than later.

I've gone to using the official twitter app, and I surprisingly like it, but I miss tweetbot and am curious what they have up their sleeves!

What shall I find that shows me that Thursdays have a significantly higher number of new apps released over other days?

If you'd tried, you'd known. And I'm not confusing the App Store refresh with app releases, although they're connected - which Google could've told you.

I don't really see anything anywhere that tells me that Thursdays is when most new apps and/or app updates come out in the App Store.

I want to know how apple hasnt yet updated all of its apps for ios7, how can they encourage developers to update when they havnt updated theirs (Iwork)

I've never said most updates roll out on Thursdays.
