instagram updated today and still nothing ugly ui and icon hiding their ugly a** icon in a folder

I understand your dismay about the icon. I would've loved an updated icon. But maybe they really like their icon. Or maybe they want to take their time and have one that'll stand the test of time. Mine sits directly on my home page and it doesn't bother me.

Your preference isn't going to will them into changing their icon. Maybe if enough people voice their opinion to their support page or whatever, you'd have a better shot at getting the "ugly a** icon" changed.

Just my opinion of course. Hope you don't take it the wrong way.

you gotta be kidding me...they really didn't even redesign their app for iOS 7 just made a few changes I absolutely HATE that Facebook bought this app!!!
Really, they only made few changes in the app? Seems like it all looks fairly different with iOS 7 type of style. Short of the icon, the visual design of the app was definitely updated to fit with iOS 7.

maybe it's just me then but that instagram icon sticks out like a sore thumb like I said before....there is so many good icon replacements that I have seen on dribbble that still keep the concept of the icon

Not joking, just making a statement based on the changes in the app.

The problem is some people think apps are going to change to all look exactly like the default iOS 7 apps. But many companies aren't going to lose their identity to follow a new look and feel. Many will wait for 6 months to a year and see how it shakes out. iOS app developers always are moving ahead past Apple's app designs. A year from now, this new style may not be the style most apps use anymore.

No, I never said that. But I've talked with several developers and a few have no plans to change their logo on a specific platform. It's a fact. You may not agree with it, but there will be companies who choose to keep their logos in sync.

Well, that's find and dandy!! Since it's my option what to have and what not to have on my phone from over 800 thousands apps, I don't think me as a consumer have anything to lose. There is always an alternative app!! I can't really think of any single app in the App Store that I can not do without!

smh I guess devs should have never optimize their apps for the larger sceen too when the 5 was released...

If this was in response to a post about the icon then I must say those two are very different points.

A company isn't going to change their logo to suit one platform. For many, the logo is the identity of their business and they will not want to have multiple versions of the logo or be forced into changing their logo everywhere to suit ios7.

how many apps have already changed their icon to suit iOS7? exactly did they lose their identity? NO.....quit using that as an excuse it's lame and doesn't hold up at all and really doesn't make sense...I am done with this topic...move on

Nobody's asking for a complete redesign from the ground up, but an app icon to fit the environment. Look at Windows Phone, whose tiles are nothing like any other OSes. Brands sevelop their own tiles and icons to fit in with the design of the system, without losing any identity or what the business is.

One example is flipboard. They essentially made their icon look the same as the Apple Store app, but is it now unrecognizable? No, I can easily tell what the app is. Or, take Kik or Pandora or Tweetbot for an example. Dramatically different icons, but still super easy to tell what the app is and the brand that developed it.

glad to see others understanding where i was coming from on this :D

whatsapp taking forever as usual just for an update

Supposedly, the beta tester who leaked the screenshots of the upcoming Whatsapp mentioned that the update will be coming in a matter of "days" from now. Got that information from his Twitter page.

An app is the property of its developer. Its icon design is certainly much less related to any new standards or anything like that. If some developers decide to leave their icons as they were before, that is their choice. If you don't like that for some reason then you might have to work around that.

Sometimes I'm not find of some company's logo, but that usually doesn't stop me from using their products. And if it does, then I just end up finding a workaround that works for me.

Wish they updated the icon but beggars can't be choosers.

Anyone else notice that the top of the icon isn't flush? There's a super-thin white line there.

It's bothering me more than it should, so Yelp is gonna remain hidden in a folder.
