Very pleased Gmail has been updated and now supports background refresh.

Since getting a 5S and losing ActiveSync support that ended on new devices since Jan, I've really missed using the default mail app (which I've always preferred), which no longer supported push for Exchange accounts. Been using the gmail app since, which supports push out of the box but no background update, so had to suffer the pain of it having to download the email only when you actually opened the app. Admittedly more of an iOS issue prior to iOS7, but still, glad there's now a much better gmail experience on my iPhone/iPad!

Those two WhatsApp beta testers from Twitter say that the update will be out next week probably...

I hope they will at least be able to integrate with other apps like iWork or Adobe Reader so we can send documents... But that's just me dreaming.

Oh, boy, wish I could program or work with an amazing developer, so many ideas haha.

Nest just released an amazing update. You can now access settings in portrait mode... It also supports their smoke detector.

HOW? I have no settings control. I keep closing and restarting!

I know nothing about the app but is it that three line icon top right? That normally referes to a pull out menu.

Press on the actual thermostat you want settings for, it will enlarge, then use the upper right settings menu and all of the relevant settings will appear, took me reading their blog to figure out the same thing.

Oh Thanks, same button, dual purpose.

On the home screen it just opens account.

After clicking on thermostat, but it's function changes into details.

You're mistaken. Reread my posts, push and background update aren't the same thing.

Gmail app has always supported push, or has done for a long time.

Only now, with this update, has it supported background update.

From another discussion I had on this;

Gmail previously supported push of course, but it still only actually downloaded email when you launched the app. Really surprised they didn't mention it in the patch notes, the difference is night and day. You'd previously get a partial preview of emails and it would update read/unread status, but it wouldn't actually download the email in readiness so it's there the moment you open the app. Not much of an issue when you're on wifi or have a good signal, but even then there'd be a pause upon opening the app as only then does it download the email. If you only have one or two unread it'd be quick, but it was really noticeable when you've got a pile of unread emails, and especially annoying if you try to read email, from maybe 20 minutes earlier, and you've got no signal and it's not preloaded. Hardly google's fault prior to iOS7 though, given only now can third party apps access background update, unlike iOS 6 and below.
