hey just wondering how you remove the HDD icon from desktop? Where is the option to do that? Thanks for the replies in advanced.

Click anywhere on the desktop (so that Finder is active in the menu bar) then click Finder | Preferences | and check/uncheck whatever you'd like.

Hello there.
I'm running Tiger, so I know I can hide the HDD icon.
Go to options while in Finder and then the 'General' section. There, uncheck the Hard Disks box. Voila, HDD icon disappears from the desktop.
