My educated guess is that this "non-release" has nothing to do with the Pope. I can't remember the last time I saw an apple OS release on the front page of a newspaper or anything...oh thats right, it hasn't.

Honestly, us being mac fans: yes this is a huge release for us, we've been waiting a looong time for it, and this is going to change a lot for us apple users, and the potential switchers out there.

BUT, to the rest of the public, this won't seem like earth shattering news, and even me...being a mac fanboy/fanatic/freak, I don't remember any hooplah for panther/jag/or even just the initial release of OS X. Thing is, if apple was gonna' release it, they would have....pope or no pope.

For such earth shattering news such as the new iMac, the G5, or the new ipods...most of the population didn't even know Apple was releasing those items until they saw something on the web/stores anyways....how can a release of an updated OS be any different. And to say that apple is afraid of overshadowing, or taking away the news of the pope is almost laughable.

P.S.
I tuned in to the news just lately...and I got plenty of coverage of other things that weren't Pope related...

I’d say you got your moneys worth out of pc w/ the Pentium.

So what do you think of the graphics card in the mac mini? ;)
I cannot argue that Apple gives you lots of computer for the money ($500.00). I am just shooting for a system that can last me a good 7 more years, and so, I think I need to buy close to top of the line. The card is better except for the memory. That's why I am waiting for the next revs. :)

I hope that you are right. In reference to Apple overshadowing the Pope, nope, it was the other way around, but you covered it in your P.S.

Pope? Are you guys nuts?

OK, we're talking about a public company here right? Yeah, like they will make decisions according to the Catholic Popes condition
Wake up, it was just a rumor!!

Just wondering, if Apple does not update the graphics card in the iMac, what graphics card will you run in the power mac?

The only thing is if apple are trying to really make tiger the OS that cashes in on the "Halo effect" and ipods, mac mini etc, and changes large amounts of ppl from windoze. They may want a lot of media attention, so waiting for a lull in media events might be the best idea, if they do have these plans for tiger that is.

I spose we will see in good time.

Also whats with all the pirate names and stuff, ive only noticed today, how long have they been around for?

10.4 Tiger Release Date - Tuesday

I can't reveal any sources, but I can tell you that I have been told from an extremely "interesting" source. The initial announcement/preorders will be this coming Tuesday, though shipments will follow soon after. I know, I was hoping for today as well, but its not that far away! *impatiently taps fingers on desk*

aw weak man, no tiger announcement. I've been marking my calender for days. I was suspicious. My work is sending me to the Mac WWDC and I'm going to get the "Tiger early starter kit". Is that just preview or what? I didn't think so because Apple said it would be out the first half of the year ... and june is exactly halfway!

Depending on the expenses, I am looking at either the Radeon 9800, or the Nvidia 6800.

Everybody go see Sin City. It will make you forget Tiger for a while.

In other news...

Our top story tonight: Apple Computer announces its new operating system, OS X Tiger.

In other news, the pope died...

I actually just wanted to see if I was going to get a cool pirate name.

That sounds very reasonable. I have only been with Apple Computers since last August, although I have noticed that a major new product, such as Tiger, updated PowerBooks, etc, etc, usually are release in the middle of the week. When the new iPod Minis came out, they came out on a Wednesday (I think.) I know the Mac Mini also came out on a Wednesday. Needless to say, your prediction is probably correct.

Now about The Pope. I don't see why Apple would hold off to wait for the Pope to die. That makes no sense whatsoever. (I would also like to say that John Paul II is in my prayers, and I have to say that he has done very much for mankind. Sorry, I'm a devout Catholic. I just had to say that.)

One more thing: if the Golden Master of Tiger has just been decided this week, Apple's CD pressers must press several thousand in an hour.

All in all, my guess is that Tuesday is the magical day.

EDIT: Oh, they changed the names under the Screen Names. I'm no longer a crying boy. Now I'm crying. :( lol

Well, they've already announced Tiger, and the Popes still alive.

Tuesday is the fifth of April and that is the start is FOSE. Maybe Apple wants to show off Tiger to the Government sector by announcing its release.

Tiger will not launch in April

Tiger will not launch in April. I've tried something very interesting. On Apple Retail websites, no Tiger workshops have been posted until May. So I think it won't be shipped until May at least.

Well think about it..if apple would have posted apple seminars in April then we would all know that it is coming out in April....so instead they just post it a month later...

I just gassed up the Jeep. $2.08.9 for Unleaded Regular. $29.USD for almost 13.8 US gallons... you will have to do the math to convert it all to Euro's and liters and kilometers.

My heart bleeds for you. I just did the conversions and at £.849 per LITRE (in Newcastle, it's more down South) we are paying 6.053596 USD per US Gallon for regular unleaded.

Further, although I can't find an advance price for Tiger, a single user licence for Panther will cost £99 ($186.26 USD) versus the $129 USD you will pay.

Yeah... but that's okay. I also have a very "interesting" source that I can't speak of, but I can confirm the April release.

Maybe Apple not announcing a release date for Tiger was their April Fool's joke:

"Hey, we announced a release date for Tiger... but we just didn't tell anyone! APRIIIL FOOOL'S!!! One more thing...: Suckaz."
