I have seen hundreds of i-devices and have yet to see one with a bad screen. Either you guys are super, super, super picky or super unlucky.
Do you guys return monitors/TVs like this too?

Returned my pink-bottomed screenD). Replacement is noticeably cooler tinted, but basically even colored and a keeper. Last year I went thru a half dozen to get a good one. This year I'm happy with #2. Either the luck of the draw was on my side this time or Apple has tightened up the panel manufacturing process.

Frankly, I'm amazed by this. The iPad 2 in particular was badly affected, it took me four attempts to find one that didn't have a strong yellow tint. I had two iPad Airs and they were fine but this Air 2 has a minor screen defect which is quite noticeable in certain circumstances so I have ordered a replacement.
I have never heard of anyone until now with exposure to more than a few iOS devices that haven't encountered a bad screen.
I'd say you must be very lax in what you accept. LCD screens as a rule have issues so all devices Apple and non Apple with these types of screens will have a percentage with issues. Apple has now moved to a new technology with less LED's meaning they are even more prone to screen issues with uniformity. I went through about five original Air's before giving up and sticking with my 4.
With TV & Monitors? Yes if I buy a premium TV or Monitor for a premium price I expect a premium product. If I bought a budget tablet, TV or Monitor I might be more lax but I expect the highest quality if I'm paying the highest price.
On the positive side Apple have patented a new type of OLED screen for the future so fingers crossed these issues may be a thing of the past in a year or two.
I have owned 7 iphones and currently own 3 ipads (2,3, Air) and as a developer have handled probably close to 100 different mobile devices. Every time I go to an electronic store I end up messing with the on display devices.
I have yet to see one with a display that I felt wasn't perfectly fine. You, my friend, are in the minority here. The average person doesn't return the device multiple times seeking absolute perfection.
Of course it is your right as a consumer to return it as many times as you want so no issue there it just strikes me as odd is all.
----------
I would imagine I am the normal one here as most people won't return this stuff 5 times to get absolute perfection. Even apple couldn't sustain a product that requires 5 returns before one sticks.
What does one of these bad screens look like? Do you have an example? I have never seen a bad ipad/iphone screen personally and I have handled over 100 devices.
I returned the Air and kept my 4 so don't have it but the book spine effect can be a mild blue effect on one side too the extreme of the one I had which made it look like the left side of the screen was falling away. The uniformity issue is basically yellow down one side getting darker toward the edge and a much lighter blue hue on the other side. This is just the Air, I never had a Ipad 3 but that had some very yellow screens apparently.
It's not about whether the screen is warm or cool but the mix of the two which makes using anything with a white background infuriating.
Apples own community forum had a thread all about the Air issues it was the longest thread they've ever had and it was full of people returning several Airs. I gave up after four or five while I was still able to get my money back but others were trapped in the constant return cycle trying to get a decent screen because their return date had passed. I can't see why anyone would put up with a defective screen for the money Apple products cost.
The Air uses new screen tech that uses less LED's this is known to have more issues with screen uniformity. It doesn't mean they are all bad but you have more of a chance of screen issues. Basically thinness over ruled screen quality.
Some examples of Yellowing.

Look at the two keyboards and how different they are.

I do love how when this issue comes up everyone suddenly claims to be a developer or photographer and are so obsessed with screen quality but can't see the most basic defect.lol.

All the iPad Airs I got last year (3) looked like that pic on the bottom. One side was always way more yellow than the other. Oh and lest I forget book spine too.

This says more about your credibility and ability than your experience. You seem to have no idea what to look for.I have seen hundreds of i-devices and have yet to see one with a bad screen. Either you guys are super, super, super picky or super unlucky.

Coup degrace is when not only is the tint worse in the one you just exchanged, the screen also has dead pixels (center) and dust between the glass. I stopped after three last year.

Not only that but when you take it into the store they agree to exchange it but say "Well it looks fine too me, we sell millions and this is the first I've heard of this."
I've been lucky and honestly i'm not real picky about screens tbh. I did return a 1st gen Mini which happened to have a real bad yellow tint on the bottom right corner. I compared it to my Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and the Samsung panel was a brilliant white. The Mini never achieved that level of screen quality. I'm not overly picky about lightbleed unless it's excessive.
All of my iPad's have a certain level of lightbleed but I did keep them. The one thing I am absolutely picky about are dead or stuck pixels. But I do agree that tinting issues do exist. Some have a higher tolerance or don't notice it like others might. If I turn any of my iPad's on an angle they'll turn slightly pinkish. No biggie for me as I look straight at the tablet. I can see where it might bother someone else.
I didn't even know what the 'book spine' effect was until I saw a thin faint line along the left edge of my Air 2, and finally it dawned on me.
It's noticeable in Safari but strangely not so much in other apps with predominantly white screens.
I really don't want to exchange it, as it is a cellular model with AC+. It's a hassle. I guess I'll see how I feel in a week.
