Given how well the SE has been reportedly selling - apparently there is still a market for 4" phones- do you think we will see a refresh of the SE next March?

Apple doubled the capacity of the 6S or this recent product line refresh but didn't touch the SE. I'm holding onto my iPhone 5S 64GB, hoping for a 128GB SE- what is the likelihood of this? I really would like to use Apple Pay, but until there is a 128GB version of the SE, there just isn't a reason enough for me to ditch my 5S.

Given that Apple reduced the price of the SE by $50, I'm thinking they will release an updated one in March.

I'd say it'll probably be on a two year cycle, and geared for spring releases over fall with the "main" models.

It sells well, and Apple isn't stupid - they're all about more iPhones, more people invested in the ecosystem, and more prevalence of iOS in the phone market. Add in the fact that it allow them to have a "budget" model to compete with far more Android devices, and you see the reasoning in the model, in addition to appeasing the customers that prefer a 4" device.

EDIT: Not sure which mod merged/deleted the original posts, but you dun goof'd. ;D

Is all about sales as you mentioned. Either refresh or disappears in the way of 5c.

If one extra user out of millions makes you feel any better, I knew I wanted an updated 4" phone, but waited what's up with the 7, and after sept 7, I went ahead and ordered a Gold SE.

If you need 128G though, that's what you need. Nothing more maddening that have to continuously monitor storage usage. This is hardly my first phone or any electronics for that matter but it still makes me mad my brand new SE, no Apps, no nothing, BAM tells me 57G available.

Honestly doubt it. There was little to no advertising for the SE. In fact, lots of SE users regret downsizing to such a small screen. It may have had good sales, but I don't think a refresh would fair as well.

I'm surprised they didn't add a 128GB option to the SE when they eliminated the 6 and refreshed all the storage options.

So that suggests to me that they may be working on a 4" 7 updated with all the latest features, which they could launch in March again. So it would be a premium 4" priced between the 6s Plus and 7. That gives them somewhere to go as they depreciate the 7, and continue dropping the price of the SE allowing them to reach even more lower income customers. The 6s will have to drop to the SE spot next year (I'm really surprised they dropped the 6, which would have helped ready more Android converts).

But it will likely have the headphone jack removed in order to squeeze in that Taptic Engine. And you can bet it won't have the dual camera.

The majority I've seen have been very happy with the smaller form factor - I'd be one of them. It's a great device, and while smaller than other iPhones, to me that's a feature.

They'll refresh it next time they have a boring product cycle with nothing else to update... like last spring.

But that's exactly what 2017 is shaping up to look like.

We've already seen the new iPhone, the new watch, and the new iPads, and the retina MacBook. The only rumored big product change is the MBP. So not much for the rest of the year but product refreshes. And the lack of a headphone jack, combined with Samsung getting back on its feet with the Note 7, is likely going to hurt iPhone 7 sales worse after the initial demand is over.

Apple really needs a new little gadget to introduce in the Spring, and a premium SE would do the trick -- imagine one in Jet Black.

Any update on this? I'd love to see a 128GB version of the SE. I love the 4" form factor and my 64gb iPhone 5S is running out of space...

While i agree that refreshes and redesigns will be slow on the smaller sized phone, I have heard very little regret coming from those who have opted for the smaller screen. I believe the SE has been really well received by users. Many of us believe that there should be a premium smaller phone in the line up. I think the premium new phone without bezels will fill that need for many of us. More screen real estate without the enormous size of many newer phones.

Still cool they upped the storage IMHO. Still shows you some things were tight the first time around. Or pretty darn close. If my se dies I will gladly get another and still be cheaper than their flag ship models.

The SE was using an older (less space-efficient) 19nm flash chip, they probably could have put in more capacity if they had wanted to. I suspect it is rather a matter of staying below the top capacity in the iPhone line. When the first SE appeared, the 6S was the biggest with 128GB, so the SE had to max out at 64GB. Now the 7 has set the maximum to 256GB, so the SE is allowed to go to 128GB.

I just bought a 64gb SE. Why? to me it's quite clear that now that Apple updated the storage options for the SE, it's a CLEAR sign that they are NOT gonna give us the next SE any time soon. Why would they do storage update if they had replacement on the production line? So, I grabbed myself a 64GB SE before they disappear from the stores; don't feel like paying +50€ more for half the storage (32gb 499€ vs 64GB 449€).

I'm one of those people who doesn't want an ipad in their pocket. I will likely get an SE iphone when my current one wears out. :apple:

Not sure what your point is -- storage capacity is a matter of necessity and preference. I would have happily paid $100 more when I bought my 64GB SE last year, had 128GB been available. As it is, I have to make due with less. I'm not going to upgrade to the 128GB now, as I've gotten used to managing my needs, but if it were essential to me, I might easily do it. I might have if Apple had upgraded other features as well -- the 2nd gen Touch ID for instance, or the front facing camera, better radios, etc.

However, the fact that Apple didn't upgrade anything else might also mean that in September they will surprise us and introduce a 4.7" iPhone 8 that is about the same size as the SE, by eliminating the bezels with an edge to edge display. I don't think we'll see that model just yet though. I think they will only release the Plus 8, alongside the 7s, as rumored, with the regular 8s coming in 2018 -- this gives them time to shrink everything into a smaller package and subsidize the cost of the smaller, lower priced model through maximum profit margins on what is surely going to be the most popular iPhone ever.
