My biggest complaint relative to the use of aluminum is how the silver pro model looks. I think the titanium color looked so much better. And for this downgrade in looks to be in the same year that they dropped down to only 3 colors is just strange. Otherwise, I don't mind the aluminum at all. I'm willing to take their word that it's better practically.

I’m not interested in a premium feel, aesthetics or fashion.
I am interested in performance and durability.

I’m happy they reduced the glass back. I’m hoping the new design will improve durability.
Talking about performance at the cost of premium feel. I would, like to recall the past. Galaxy S3 and iPhone 4s. Both the devices were of same era. Galaxy S3 was better in terms of Processor, Camera and oeverall performance compared to iPhone 4s. Yet it looked like cheap plastic compared to premium design of iPhone 4s. Talking about 17 PM. We are spending $1200 for the base model. So we expect it to have a premium look and feel with good performance. It looks like Apple is saving it for its next year's foldable phones

Apple has never done a titanium unibody. Titanium is expensive and that much raw material will drive prices. Not to mention the machining would be costly.

Yes, titanium is better but at scale, for the amount of phones to be made, worldwide. Doesn't work. Aluminum is cheap. Dirt cheap, easier to work on, and readily available for (almost) similar performance.

With all that being said. My favorite material is stainless.

cheaper case materials, for 2 reasons: 1) keep the price low despite market forces, and 2) heat dissipation to stop the overheating issue.

but I am not happy about it, not a lot we can do lol

How many of you are disappointed about Apple's decision of using Aluminum instead of Titanium and Stainless steel? I like iPhone 17 Pro Max, and I am planning to buy it soon. But aluminum? The most premium phone in 17 line up.
I was impressed with the premium look and feel of iPhone Air. its premium titanium frame its glossy finish. it looks like a premium smartphone. But it is about aesthetics, fashion over performance. But it's sad that Pro Max their top end device was somehow compromised it doesn't even look premium to me. It looks like iPhone 6 and 6s series.
None of it looks the same as last year.

Titanium was just out side coat really. While it kind of sucks i am fine with the choice they made if it keeps the price down and gives better cooling.

Air has same internal specs as pro max, except 1 gpu core shorter and RAM. It is much slimmer, it is not prone to heat issue.

The most premium device in iPhone looking dull, ugly and cheap. I wouldn't mind if they would have increased the weight by using stainless steal, but added a premium look and feel.
They may both have an A19 Pro chip, but which do you think will throttle performance for thermal mitigation first, the phone with the vapor chamber and large aluminum body, or the much thinner one without that technology?

I'm less concerned about a premium look and feel since my phone will spend all of its life in a TechWoven or leather case. (To wit, I hope I enjoy the premium feel of stainless steel on my iPhone 14 Pro for the 30 seconds it takes me to put it in the trade in box almost as much as I enjoyed it for the 30 seconds it took to put it in the case 3 years ago 🤣) Of course I imagine those that use their phone without a case might feel differently.

Maybe they just went for sustained performance: Vapor+ AL=best score.

For those times when you are benching phones against each other.

Pro should be the most powerful model, not the most premium and the two are not the same. If it takes aluminium to reach the best performance then it should be aluminium. Want "premium"? Get the Air.

LIke I said earlier, a cheap brick can be powerful and yield best performance. We are paying premium for a device so we expect premium look too.

Fiat Multipla unexpectedly good performance praised for its practicality and driving dynamics. But its design looks unconventional doesn't look premium. On the other hand a Honda civic has amazing performance, looks good and feels premium.

Apple decided to switch it back to aluminum for better performance and heat dissipation fair enough. But even with aluminum they could have added premium form factor like google pixel. So it looks powerful and beautiful. Polished Aluminum would have made one hell of a difference

They have very clearly went function over form with this year's Pros. Regular iPhone is no longer compromised so Pro perhaps for the first time is to be taken literally. It's for people who do not care about 'feel', looks or practicality as much as they do about battery life, edge cases performance or cooling. If you just want to occasionally play some games and shoot some photos once in awhile this phone is probably not for you.
