Update? Hahaha more like a downgrade... They removed things like the Apple Remote...

Holy crap I didn't notice that.

Same here you made the right decision.

I was more relieved than anything else. I was HOPING for a nice redesign, better res screens, and a few other things. Problem was I decided to get an IBM for $1500 that utterly destroys a fully loaded MBP spec wise last week and didn't wanna look stupid. I'm hoping for a nice design update when Montevina is released. Maybe a WWDC release time.

I'm quite annoyed but I expected it anyway.

What will be the most annoying thing for me is if they dont release montevina at that event (WWDC I think it's called) in the summer. I NEEEEEED an MBP for when I go back to uni next academic year at the start of October. I held out this year but there is no way I can last till Nov.

What I will say is I strongly believe we will see Montevina (as lond as intel play ball) in the Summer as with the new processors arriving in January which will be significantly better than the current range available then Apple will want to capitalise on any sales the summer update will bring. If they were to update to Montevina in Sept/Oct after the ipod offer then 99% of people would be asking why should I bother with this update when in 3 months I get a significantly better product!

I think it is going to be a little longer than 3 months...

I'm a little little disappointed that the case didn't got any change especially no new latch, but it's good enough for me to place the order. I'm happy the waiting is finally over:)

I knew there'd be a bunch of whiners..if you don't like the upgrade then don't buy it! It's a nice step up from the last model (except for the lack of a remote). I guess Apple's idea is that if it ain't broke, don't fix it...the case design is getting old but there's nothing I don't like about it- i think it's great.

I hope they got the yellow screen issue sorted out with this rev.

I only expected a moderate upgrade, but why no SSD option?
SSD in a pro model, with SSD prices so high and capacities limited?

Never expected this option. No need.

Can't believe people actually expected a Blu-Ray drive
Agree.

Can't believe the number who voted negative on this thread.

Does it really matter that much? What's so bad about the current MBP latch? Seriously.

not really, that's why I'm still happy to place the order. as for the latch, magnetic latch should be less likely to break, at least that's my impression. my old powerbook's latch got broken and the lid can't be closed. i have to place a cup or something on the top when i connect it to the external display, it's annoying....

Is the display cleaning cloth a new extra (replacement to the remote)? or has it always been there. I don't think mine came with one.

Yes.

Last years 8600 video card instead of the 8800.
Lo res 15" screen.
No SSD.
No built in 3G.
No Quadro option. It's a "pro" machine.
No card reader.
No Blu-ray.

i dont understand why everyone assumed that bluray would be in this update... it just won the format war. i also dont see bluray being available for the next update either. this is something that is going to be implemented by apple when bluray becomes the standard, and bluray is a couple of years off from being the standard

and how many people are willing to drop an extra grand to gain speed while sacrificing HDD space... very few

The iMacs Al, had started including the cloth, think it may be the first time for the MB(P)'s to get them. Just go buy another remote if you want one, there are other (better) remotes.

I think it's pretty solid and in tune with what Apple normally does for standard updates: offering the last mid-range model at the same price as the last low-end. Sometimes they throw in some small new features, sometimes they don't. This is pretty ordinary, nothing very exciting. Disappointed? No, it's a solid update for anybody who needs a new macbook pro now, but definitely not worth upgrading to if you have any of last year's machines.

I can't believe people actually believed that the mbp would have a 8800m gt video card in the new mbp's. apples main thought should be to reduce heat and raise battery charge. not halve battery charge and raise the heat. 8600m gt is a great card and with 512mb vram it can play all of the games that are out now. I loved the new mbp and am buying one in April (once it's field tested).

Nope, its what I expected.

Its a good interim update between now and WWDC.

No one should have been expecting a redesign since the new platform ( forgotten name ) will be released in under 6 months time.

Are you disappointed with the new MBPs?

I was alittle disappointed.. Was hoping for a thinner model and maybe an upgrade with the keyboard. I guess I'll have to wait for the moteniva update. btw how long till that the next update?
