I never used to have a screen protector until I had kids. Two toddlers who love to pick up and drop my phone = otterbox case and glass screen protector.

Since the 12 has a flat design and no home button I will put a tempered glass on the front. That way I can place it on a table face down since I won’t put a protector on the back nor a case.

iPhone 11 Pro showed that some production batches do already scratch at level 1, not at level 7. Therefore: slap it on.

I just ordered the Crystal Shield Glass Protector from Caudabe. I haven't used a screen protector since probably the iPhone 4, but the scratch resistance is absolutely horrible on the iPhone 11 Pro so not taking any chances with the iPhone 12 Pro. I suspect its gonna be just as bad. I don't like screen protectors but I hate a scratched up screen even more.

Absolutely, the question is which one. I noticed the Belkin on the Apple website is now using lithium aluminosilicate, supposedly it’s the first of its kind. Very intrigued by this. The only drawback is that it’s not edge to edge and it doesn’t cover the notch. I’m not sure but maybe that’s for better FaceID performance? Still debating which one to get but this one is currently at the top of my list. Don’t see a need to go for the expensive stuff (bodyguardz or zagg) if they’re using the same glass as the cheap stuff on Amazon. Might end up with the Belkin + some E2E triple pack of some sort.

Bought the ESR one as well, though will probably buy some sort of film protector in a couple of months.

For the people wondering which one to buy know that apart from a very small couple of companies almost all the tempered glass protectors come from the same couple of factories so cheapest is usually the best option.

I'm on the fence about this. My pattern has been to apply the screen protector for early in the phone's life, but as the years go by (I may go 3-4 years between upgrades) and the phone's replacement value decreases, I eventually don't replace the screen protector when/if it breaks.
This has been my MO as well. Typically buy a 2-pack initially but rarely buy another once those both break.

I'm really debating this. My current Xs has AppleCare+ so I wasn't as concerned about damage to the screen. I may not purchase AC+ this time in which case a protector is proly prudent.

The Bodyguardz Pure 2 fits perfectly. The size is a little larger than the display so you can use just about any case. The borders are no longer black and it looks better. Very very smooth edges that work well with a case and aren’t an issue if you are case less.

I am thinking of going with Spigen. They couldn’t get it right with the SE 2020. Maybe they will do better with the flat design on the mini.
I have use Spigen on iPhone 8+, regular iPhone 8 and iPhone XR and 11. Perfect fit on all of them. Not sure why you are saying that they could not get it right on iPhone SE. i have it now on iPhone 12, and as usual installation was a breeze and fit is perfect.

The new SE has curved glass. Hardly any of the protectors fit it properly. Spigen on the original SE is flawless.

Does anyone know if the E2E glass that covers the notch has any negative effect on FaceID performance? I’m trying to decide between notch and notch less and if it doesn’t impact FaceID I can’t imagine why I wouldn’t go for one that covers the notch. Frankly been trying to figure this out since the days of the X.

Heard good things about how easy the Spigen protectors are to fit with the template. I stress out big time installing them (in a steamy bathroom) so hope the template is better than the others I've used.

I got the full screen one as I prefer without cut out for the notch.
Installing Spigen screens is a breeze with provided installation kit. On Amazon there plenty of other brands that will come with installation kit. Definitely cheaper option then buying it from Apple Store.

I had it on 8, 8+, XR and 11 and those have curved glass, Spigen protectors had perfect fit, no lifting and perfect protection. Unless what you are talking about is edge to edge screen protector (covering all the glass to metal edges). Then yes, it was not doing it. On iPhone 12 it is almost edge to edge, there is maybe 1-2 mm gap between screen protector edge and metal edges.

Spigen on the new SE had a bad halo effect.

Just been to the Apple store and picked up an iPhone 12 and got them to put one of their glass screen protector on using their machined for £30. Expensive but saves me faffing about doing it.
