Last I know, there was an arm band for the iPhone; a feature not unique to the iWatch.

It's a good question really I'm just kidding. So in my opinion its not what it does, but how it does it.

When sitting in a public place or at home, it's easy enough to just get your phone out to read messages. However if you're in an important meeting, rushing around the supermarket, walking fast to get out the rain while trying to use the phone for walking directions at the same time, or talking to someone and don't want to come across as rude it's much easier to glance at the watch just to see who messaged you and whether it is important or not and get quick walking directions or to simply check the time and that you're not running late. This is especially useful if you're like me and get your phone out to check the time, see some notifications and deal with them, and then forget what you got it out your pocket for and put it away still wondering what the time is. I'm also guessing that when the watch is paired, the iPhone won't buzz and instead the watch will vibrate so you don't need to worry about silencing the phone when in meetings or at the cinema or theatre etc...

It should also act as a good backup for the iPhone as a contact list (then use a payphone) and for NFC payment and boarding passes because we all know how much it costs to print them at the airport if your phone goes flat.

It's also a handy remote control for both the Apple TV and keynote (presentations) without having to dig behind the sofa to find it. I like to leave my iPhone on charge when home so it's at 100% when leaving the house.

Lastly, it could in time replace your car key and house key and control the Lightning in your house simply by walking from room to room and detecting presence and maybe controlling a home heating system automatically by simply detecting the temperature on your wrist combined with your heart rate.

All the above adds up to less credit cards, passes, loyalty cards, RFID keyfobs, remote controls and paperwork in your pocket.

And in future, when ththe battery is in the days, third party apps could help improve your sleep.

I knew you were kidding. The iWatch as I see it is like what you mostly mentioned, more or less a support gadget for the iPhone for now, unless it can do a lot more, as you also mentioned, in the near future to be worth buying.

Yes i am going to buy a watch. The question is which smart watch will i get. Ideally the Apple watch but if google wear opens up to ios then the Moto 360 v2.0 might tempt me.

Lol. Then again Tim Cook called it the iWatch by mistake during an interview shortly following the announcement!

LOL! Thanks… I haven't really did any research or read up on the (i)Watch. I hadn't realize it wasn't as "intelligent" yet as other iApple products, hence without the letter 'i' in front of watch. Perhaps, it's a hint not to buy yet. :p

What is an iWatch???? Is it anything like the Apple Watch?

Oh, I didn't know the watch had no i-intelligence. :p

It is Apple Watch (aWatch or :apple:Watch) and not iWatch just like it's Apple TV (aTV or :apple:TV) and not iTV. The 'i' does not stand for intelligent and never has. The i originally was for internet connected but lost it's meaning years ago. It was just continued as a nomenclature for Apple products . Apple has since decided to retire the i on future products. So iPad is likely the last i named product. We may even see Apple rebrand all current i products over the next few years.

A little history: Jobs original wanted to call the 'new' internet translucent Mac Apple was working on the MacMan instead of iMac (he was into Sony culture at the time). He didn't like iMac which the team liked for internetMac. What if Jobs didn't change his mind. We might have:

PodMan, PhoneMan, TunesMan, Mac ProMan, Mac miniMan, PadMan and maybe TVMan and WatchMan

Thank you for educating me. I had no idea the "I" stood for internet. I like intelligence better.

It can tell the time with Mickey Mouse tapping his foot. I don't know about you but I have several every day uses for that.

:D I'm not sure if I need another gadget in my life to tell me the time.

Black Friday Madness on Launch Day

I don't know which model yet, but I'll be standing in line at the Apple Store (Mall of Georgia) waiting for it on release day. Yes, I'm a geek.

I used to do that . . . until I got my iPhone 5s. There was a mad rush to the mall doors when they allowed us to to line up. Then after waiting outside the Apple Store when I finally made it into the mall to wait some more, they did not have the color I wanted (even though I called the day before and was told that all colors and models would be available). Anyway, the wild stampede for the doors made me realize that this was not an experience I was willing to "re live" in the future. Two people got the "sought after" gold iPhones as they were the first to trample their way to the front of the line, where people were actually crushed into the door. Then they pleaded with the people behind them to move the line back since they were are piled up. I just stood back and looked at the nonsense, and, looking back, don't regret not being one of first to grab the gold. It was not worth the price.

That said, I will ordering my Apple Watch, next iPhone (whatever comes after the 6 and 6 Plus) and iPad online.

No, because I don't see the appeal, and it's a first gen product. There's no way in hell I'm ever getting another first gen electronic device.

What does the iWatch exactly do that an iPhone can't?

haha make you look like even more of a baller :)

I don't see why anyone would drop $350 on this.

I want to know if the people who said yes already wear watches.

Analyst think Apple will sell 60 million of them. Meaning 1/3 of the people who have an iPhone will buy a watch :D

I haven't seen someone my age wearing a watch since the 6th grade since people started making fun of our batman/spiderman watches haha

If it was $200 and was a only a fitness, water resistant + time piece I'd be all for it. I just don't see what it does that my phone doesn't do. The fact I need my phone for it to work also makes it seem useless.

just reminds me of the sega CD, Sega 32x, and basically every video game add on where you need another system for your new expensive toy to work.

I don't understand why there is so much negativity.

What does your iphone do that a dumb phone + ipod touch doesn't do?
what does your iphone do that a samsung galaxy s3 doesn't do?

these questions have no bearing on market potential of a new product.

Roosters crow….. it's wake up time, then breakfast time

Sun pops over the hill, it's time to head off to campus to sign in.

If I have a class, I'm there before most.

Students get restless, it's time for a break.

Next time they get restless, their mind is on lunch, so i follow their lead. They are not going to learn any more.

And so the day goes on with it's natural ebb and flow of energy, and events….. and I am on time for most.

Eventually I get sleepy; it's bed time.

Who needs a watch? Not I; have been without one for decades, and no smart watch is going to change that.

I can't wait to get the Apple Watch......may get two of them, one will be used at work only

Why not just get multiple bands?

I have a variety of watches that I rotate regularly but for work I only wear one as it gets pretty banged-up. I also wear my work watch for other rough uses, mountain biking etc.

----------

If I buy an Apple Watch that means other jewelry and Watches that I normally wear will have to come off and that certainly ain't happening!

For me it's the opposite, once I get the Apple Watch I most likely will stop wearing other watches I own and some are of much higher quality swiss made and mechanical.

That said, I will ordering my Apple Watch, next iPhone (whatever comes after the 6 and 6 Plus) and iPad online.

I am going to stand in line because I made the mistake of not standing in line for the iPhone 6 Plus, 128 GB, AT&T, Space Gray. I didn't get my phone until a month after release day. I'll be standing in line.

I think there is a clock on my IPhone..wait lets see

I'm pretty sure you know there is a clock on your iPhone, I'm also sure you will find the time in many items around your home, work, in your car etc etc etc. in fact none of us need the Apple Watch or any other Smartwatch to tell the time. If that was the only reason then I would stick to my mechanical swiss made watches to tell the time.

Most of us WILL buy Smatwatches NOT for what we know they can do so far, but for what we DON'T know they will do in future. It's going to be exciting if that's your thing..........I'll see you in line :)

I couldn't choose so I answered them all.

Shut up and take my money! - No way, it's not 'there' yet.

Waiting to see it in the real world. - I'm sure my interest will spike a bit once I can touch it but I already know it's far too limited and lacks certain personal needs so waiting won't change much in that aspect.

No way, too expensive! - Yes and no. This is the price point I expected, but not for a mirror display of my iPhone with a UI catered the the smaller screen.

No, I don't get the appeal. - I get the appeal. And I want one. But not in this state.
