Are you ok with the MBP going all-in with USB-C?

Well I haven't seen it and I go shop at bestbuy regularly. Also not buying a new monitor or hdd just because I have a computer with USB C. Waste of money for the sake of a new plug? You can go do that. And Bluetooth? As I said I'm not buying a new mouse for the sake of new technology. I happen to have a fully functional wireless mouse with doggle.
The point is that Apple has never been a company that placed a high value on backward compatibility with legacy ports. They released the original iMac with only USB when there were a grand total of 2 USB peripherals in the market. There are a lot more USB-C accessories out there now. Expecting Apple to change now, particularly when there is a single port (Thunderbolt 3) that is capable, through adapters, of supporting just about every imaginable port out there (including USB-A, Thunderbolt 1 & 2, Firewire, HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet) is unrealistic.

Than I won't buy another Macbook again? I'm no slave to Apple and will gladly buy another windows machine. As it is I have three laptops one of which is my Macbook and two windows machines.

And then what will you do when Windows OEMs go USB-C-only? It's coming eventually. People said they'd stop buying MacBooks when they dropped the SuperDrive, too. Now virtually no notebook has one.

By than there will be more devices with USB C ports.

We shall see though the hp spectre only has USB C ports so I might be forced to buy new devices anyways

Stay behind the curve then.

The benefits of embracing USB-C don't need explaining.

In my experience it's best to leave Luddites be. They'll learn eventually.

It's going to be incredibly hilarious when I'll try to charge my recently bought iPhone 6S directly with the new macbook Pro. Not being able to connect their latest laptop with their latest mobile phone without using a f.... adapter or buying an specific iPhone - usb-c wire, is just ridiculous to me.

Thank you, Tim.

When the MacBook Air came out in Jan 2008, folks were running round like chicken licken over the optical drive.

I'm a firm believer that most people don't realise what's good for them until it's forced upon them by someone else who truly knows better.
Not like the MacBook and MacBook Pro kept it for 5 years or anything.

Now that this is official I wonder what prospective buyers are going to do to cope. I'll be hanging on to my current late 2013 MBP for the time being.

Frankly, I am very shocked about the lack of common sense and basic technological education. USB-C changes nothing. You won't be using any more dongles with the new MacBook than with the previous generation, except the card reader. Most USB peripherals are 100% compatible with the new MacBook — you only need a new cable ($10) to replace the one you are currently using. Thats it.

Im curious to whether all 4 ports can be used for charging, because one by one they are going to get broken from snagged power cables. Magsafe was one of the best reasons to have a Macbook and they have killed it.

I'm in the market for a new 13 inch Macbook Pro. If I do dive in and get one, I can most probably live with only USB-C. I just need to get a USB-C to USB-b macro cable and I can use all my external hard drives and hubs - heck I bet I'll be able to get a USB-C to HDMI cable if I search online easily sooo essentially no change for me. However taking out the SD card reader and their new price point? Now thats just really annoying.

Not pulling the trigger on this model and will wait until 32GB of RAM becomes an option.
Having said that, I'm 'mostly ok' with the move - not thrilled, and I'll wind up with a dock for home, one for work + a few dongles to keep in my travel bag.

For those really jones-ing over loss of USB-A, here's a pair of 2 adapters for $9 - cheap enough to at least keep in a travel bag.
