Folks, let's have some empathy and understanding. I would be less inclined to accept that people feel the chip matters if macrumors hasn't headlined a possible 20% battery drain difference between chips. If you want to be annoyed, the posters here aren't the ones to be annoyed with.

Wait...maybe I missed something.
When you exchange it, how will you know you got the chipset you want? Full disclosure- I got the TSMC chip. However, I feel like I'm suffering a little more battery drain than on my 6 Plus. It could be because of background app refreshes or more communication with the watch but it's not so bad that I'm sweating it at this point.

That headline was jumping the gun before all the facts were in. It's nowhere near as big a difference ( if any in the real world) as they would have had you believe.

Apple has released a statement acknowledging a 2-3% increase in battery life with the TSMC chip. My guess is that percentage is downplayed by about 10% at least, not because I have done the test, or because I have both chips, but because Apple claimed only 9 people had issues with bending 6 pluses. We all know that there was way more then 9 cases, but because Apple downplayed it people accepted it.

if they admitted a 2 hour longer battery life (which these tests showed with the TSMC) people would go ape **** and it would cost quite a bit to make everyone with Samsung chips happy, by swapping them for TSMC.

I am on the fence truth be told, here in Canada I cannot return the phone as I have gone over the 30min talk time, here we either have 30 min talk time or 15 days whichever comes first. But I imagine if I was to go to the Apple Store and say I want a replacement because I have a Samsung chip I'd have a fight on my hands (I would get what I wanted believe me) but the hassle wouldn't really be worth it, it's almost like I would have to make up another reason like battery life, random reboots etc.

Edit: now typing this I think I will return it via online through Apple care, claiming battery life. Which is the truth I am getting 1hr-1hr 30min less than I was on my 6

Remember last year Apple said iphone 6 is hard to bend, no problem with the phone body, just around 10 people in the world report having band related problem? Ha ha

Every year it's something. Last year 'bend hate', this year 'processorgate'. For most people it won't mean a thing. Just something getting blown way out of proportion.

It is different, band gate applies for any iphone6 or iphone 6plus very fair, cpugate this time depends in you are lucky or not.

My battery life with the Samsung chip on a 6s+ seems to be about 12 hours of usage with 20 hours of standby. The screen is perfect and everything else seems okay to me...

Where can I see this statement from Apple?? I have a TSMC chip anyway, just curious...

Edit - I've found it.

The screen on mine is perfect so I don't want to return it. I'm going to have them swap chips in the store. Do you think I'll need a genius appointment?

It's so hard to tell if people are being sarcastic or serious about this topic when I read replies. No better way to pass time than read these forums around an iPhone launch tbh

You can try to swap by yourself but they wouldn't for sure ha ha

Fair enough, but I feel like threads already existed in the forums about Samsung being better than TSMC and then going back the other way before that "article" was posted.

Same here, getting around 12 hours of usage with all my active usage being on-screen (not listening to music or anything), which is actually better than the ~10 hours I was getting on my 6 Plus.

There are already enough people who think that because some get 14+ hours of battery life from their 6S+ that their own batteries must be somewhat defective if they 'only' get 10 hours of hard use lol. Now this chip thing convincing people that their phones are defective and will get less battery life. Nightmare for Apple.

Totally same as what Apple said: 2~3% for normal use, but 20% for heavy use..

Since I'm a heavy user (I use M9 chip to check my exercise all the time), TSMC I'm coming!!

I got better battery life from the Samsung-equipped 6S+ I returned due to a dodgy home button than I'm getting from the TSMC chipped phone I have now...
I managed over 12 hours on three consecutive charges but my new phone hasn't given me more than 11 in four charges.

time spent returning the device > time spent actually missing the battery life in real life (which happens probably once or twice a year).

so: no.

It would be great to actually witness, in store, somebody returning one for this reason, saying they want the better chip. Maybe even get a video of it.

I mean, Apple stores are kinda fun, but this? Man.....

Is this serious?
Sadly, yes.
Typical meaningless 'first world problem' right here.

My Android phone* hasn't recieved an update beyond Android 4.4.4, the Wi-Fi reciever can't see the 5GHz band, it has problems with bluetooth, and the battery life isn't great.

But, I don't exchange it because IT WORKS.

But somehow, these people want to exchange their iPhones, because the Samsung chip doesn't last as long on battery as the TSMC chip?! SUCH CHILDISH WHINING!

*Before you whine about me mentioning Android on this forum, I already had one iOS device, and I needed a phone.
