Pretty damn disappointed.

No price drop.
No 720p web cam.
No 2160p at 60hz

Those were all the minimum expectations along with Skylake.

Faster memory and ssd will barely show up in benchmarks let alone real life. You will never notice it.
One hour battery life and slightly better graphics is all it got.

Pretty sure that seals it for me. I'll be getting the Samsung Notebook 9. If I could wait till Summer or more likely Fall for new Apple machines I would.
Even then, the new 13/14" machines will be 2.5+lbs with 6th gen core i5 vs the 13.3" Samsung 6th gen core i5 at 1.85lbs.
Just the resale value and some small things about osx I'll miss like like more mouse gestures.

I'm satisfied with it in that it's incremental as can be, and I can safely use my 2015 first gen rMB worry free another year or so :) also not going through the quality control hurdle once more,

480p camera still, lol! Good thing I have an adhesive covering it up, never use it.

Seems like 1 hour, 25% better graphics, and rose gold were the real improvements

How much better CPU can one expect from base 2015 to base 2016?

5%-20% depending on what you are doing. Why do you adhesive the cam?

Can I recommend to you the USB-C Anker portable batteries? They'll double the life of your rMB and they're cheaper than the price of a second power supply.

Only i7 has hyperthreading; i5 does not.

All Mobile i5's have hyper threading desktop i5's do not but they are all quad core.

Oh and the silent update is exactly what I expected.

This update is about as significant and similarly timed to the first update to the MBA back in 2008. So far, as many predicted, Apple is pretty much following the same play book. I expect them to keep doing so. Expect a rMB proper second-generation redesign in ~2018.

While the graphics are tempting, the best part of this update is by far the fact that last years model have dropped to $930 refurbished so I can finally pull the trigger next month.
Yeah, I also consider buying refurbished NMB. I can't believe that the price is lower by $350. I hope that the 2015 model is enough for me. I don't need to do any heavy work like editing photos or making films. I guess I don't need faster CPU or graphics.....

The new one isn't powerful enough for movie editing either. So you're not going to miss out on anything.

Very disappointing update. I am dissatisfied with the performance of my rMB first gen 1.3ghz. Will wait to see what they do with the Macbook pro 13 before upgrading. If they can make the Macbook pro slimmer and lighter then that will be the path forward.

Otherwise I may switch back to a PC for work use. The only Mac I am really satisfied with right now is my iMac.

To answer this topic's title.

Well, I can't complain, the update's what I've been expecting, would have been nice if they went with 720p camera though, but now I don't have to hold off on buying it, I've been waiting for the update.

I'm very happy I got my 1.2/512GB at $300 off a few weeks ago.

Definitely not trading it in for the ones released today.

Is it still possible to get the 2015 models at the $999 price point anywhere? Wasn't another retailer price matching Best Buy at some point?

Should've gotten the wife one when I had a chance. Worse comes to worse I guess we'll be spending a few hundred more later this year on the new model.

Almost bottled buying last year with the various rumours about waiting for Skylake and the great performance bump + other crucial changes. Apart from the minor spec bump, nothing really to get excited about. Shame about no proper 4k output.

Its a fanless design that is meant for light duty in a small package. You don't need better graphics and faster processors. The Best Buy deal plus open box discount on G1 was perfect for me - $909.

Wait. So this means you're all going to continue to whine about this for another year?

BJ

When they get what they want with the third generation, they'll just find something else to complain about. Lots of people can just never ever be satisfied with what they have, and tech enthusiasts in particular can never be satisfied with whatever tech is on the market...as if things don't move quickly enough in this industry as is. People have been complaining on MacRumors, without stop, since it first began I'm sure.

2002: "We've been on the G4 since 1999! Where is the G5? Stop dawdling Apple!"

2004: "Where is the PowerBook G5!? Apple sucks! Why can't they just give us what they want?"

2006: "Okay, this new MacBook Pro looks nice, but it only has a 32-bit processor. I NEED 64-bit. What is Apple thinking?!"

2008: "The MacBook Pro looks so stale and dated compared to the MacBook Air. It's been using the same design since 2003. Why can't they just release a redesigned MacBook Pro that looks like the MacBook Air? Because, heaven knows I can't get a MacBook Air...it's underpowered and DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH PORTS! You suck Apple!"

2010: "I want a MacBook Pro with that new Thunderbolt thingy...and I need a quad-core processor in it too! But, why can't I get it NOW?! Apple must HATE it's customers! I'm switching to Windows!"

2012: "I can't believe Apple hasn't put a Retina display into the MacBook Pro yet! This is totally unacceptable! I can see nothing but jagged pixels and it is distracting me from my work. Why aren't you doing anything Apple?!"

I think you get the picture, so here's a little preview of what we can look forward too for the next year and beyond.

2016: "I can't believe that the MacBook doesn't have Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1, Generation 2! I NEED 10 Gb/s. 5 Gb/s feels like stone age speeds! Apple is lazy and doesn't know how to properly refresh their products. I'm getting an HP Spectre!"

2017: "Why hasn't Apple updated the MacBook with Cannonlake yet? I can't believe we are still stuck on Kaby Lake. That uses a 14 nanometer manufacturing process, you know! That's far too many nanometers! Apple is a DISGRACE!"

2018: "Ahem... Apple. Yoo-hoo? Anyone home? Why can't I drive eleventy 8k displays with my MacBook? This is a complete letdown. I need lots of displays and the MacBook just can't cut it. You need to fix this, because this is a feature that any modern day Mac should have! Update it Apple...NOW!"

And further ahead...

2031: "Apple...you are horrible! You'd better update the MacBooks with USB 6.2, Generation 18 support! I need to be able to transfer my VR porn files at 23424 Gb/s. And you'd better add 7G wireless support to the iPhone too! I can't believe it doesn't have these basic features. What a letdown!"

Patience is a virtue...
