Ugh is there really no difference between generation 1 and 2? Should I scour places for the $300 discount if they still have it?

A few months ago I would've ordered one right away. But being so close to WWDC and likely a new MBP form factor, I'd rather wait two months and decide then. Still not sure that even the new CPUs are really that much of an improvement. If it turns out that the MBP will be about the size/weight of the current Air but with a way better CPU... it'll be hard to pick the rMB over something like that.

The waiting continues.

I'm even glad I got on rMB around launch time, with 10% off coupon towards MSRP

the $999 and coupon stacking deals are great, but to save a few hundred for what I used for over months, while also selling my 13" MBA 2011 in a timely manner,

it all worked out

I will cuddle with my rMB 2015 a little more tonight, knowing I don't have to hurl it at a wall at full speed for being obsolete,

+ Skylake
+ HD 515 graphics
+ faster flash storage
+ faster RAM
+ additional hour of battery life
+ rose gold color option
Technically Skylake, HD 515, faster RAM, and additional hour of battery life are just one change (Skylake), which was available since last fall.

So it's just Skylake + faster flash storage + rose gold color.

As for me, I am hoping redesigned 13" MacBook Pro will save the day.

you guys absolutely get it:

the problem with this update is not the lack of a second usb-c port of the 720p camera. It's no 4k/60Hz support, making this Macbook not really future proof. Even though I want a slim notebook, I might be getting a Macbook Pro or even Dell XPS 13 now.

I can live that this thing can't edit videos but kind of knowing that my planned 4k monitor won't be supported is just stupid..

A $1299 netbook.

You can't make this stuff up.

If you want to spend $1299 to check your email, this is definitely the laptop for you.

About no 60hz on 4k, is it confirmed?

If Intel Graphics 515 can do this, then why can't OS X do it?

Maybe it does but we won't know unless someone gets their new and updated MacBook and test it.

Greedy Apple, Should have dropped the retail price by at least $100, like they've done with 2nd gen units in the past. No additional ports, blah! and the speed bump? no one will even feel it. And the additional hour of battery life? All computer companies lie about battery life. I'm happy with me gen 1 rmb and will keep it around for quite a while, even though I'm thoroughly enjoying my Lenovo untra slim, 350 degree yoga 3 pro with lots of ports, touch screen, high res, makes my rmb seem dated.

It's a good update, but I'm not sure if paying ~$370 more compared to a refurb 1st gen for $929 is completely worth it. I would've been more tempted to buy one if they started at, say, $1199.

Perhaps I can wait for these to go on sale :D

Its a bandwidth issue. USB 3 gen 1 does not have enough bandwidth to drive 60hz at 4k. Thats all it is.

Exactly last years chip in last years case and no price delta but an extra colour

I just looked at the prices of refurbished MacBooks on Apple's website, £759 for base rMB in either gold or silver, so for £300 less I'm not really losing much, just weaker graphics (which is fine, the only games I play nowadays are old games via emulators) and slightly shorter battery life (again, not a problem, it was already decent enough to begin with), everything else is the same, that's a decent deal.

Ah, I see, well, 4k at 24/30hz isn't really a problem for me anyways, I don't really need 60hz to be able to code.

Can I recommend to you the USB-C Anker portable batteries? They'll double the life of your rMB and they're cheaper than the price of a second power supply.

Only i7 has hyperthreading; i5 does not.

On mobile dual core i5's they have hyperthreading.
[doublepost=1461086621][/doublepost]Does anyone know what has changed with the PCI-e SSD? Was the old one AHCI and this one NVMe perhaps?

Except for Atom and some Celerons/Pentiums, all of Intel's mobile CPUs has hyperthreading.

I just ordered a refurbished rMB, 2015 base model, only costs $929, saves me $370. I hope that it will be a wise choice.

Anyway, I can return it in 14 days. If it is not good enough to use then I can simply return it and buy a new one.

Wait is this not capable of running 4K at 60fps like Skylake was touted to be able to do? (Or this MB was anyway.)

Kallum.

It looks like 4K at 30fps still.

$1299 starting price, same as gen 1.
[doublepost=1461076595][/doublepost]

order online today, in stores tomorrow. Granted they said that with gen1 and it was not in stores for a long long time. Well a few made it to stores.

It is limited by USB-C 3.0.
What do you guys mean? So if I hook up a macbook to my 4k tv it will only be able to do 30hz? I thought the macbook could of 60hz :(
[doublepost=1461087150][/doublepost]Damn. I always thought that it said on apples website that the macbook supported 60hz. But it says macbook AIR early 2015. I guess i'll just buy a macbook retina honestly. They are small enough

It will give you 30hz at 4k max. Its not an issue of the Core M or anything else, its just the maximum bandwidth the USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port Apple uses can supply.

Got my brandnew rMB (2015) 2 weeks back for $990 inc. tax from ebay/slickdeals. The internal upgrades are definitely not worth the additional $460 (inc. tax). I would have hated myself if they included a 2nd usb-c port though. Good job apple for not alienating your gen 1 customers.

The Retina macbook pro. Will it do 4k 60hz with just hdmi? i'll buy the 13 inch one

- No HD FaceTime webcam
- No extra ports
- No MagSafe charger
- No glowing Apple logo
- No price drop

Even for a quiet refresh, they're still extremely half-assed about it
