Re Apple, much as I love the products, what I have been most satisfied with is the Customer Service and support, which I have found to be excellent.
My first Apple product was an iPod (5th Gen 30GB) and when the HDD died under warranty, it was replaced without any difficulty. A similar problem happened with a subsequent iPod - with the same solution. My current 80GB classic is supplemented by a 64GB Touch (which is used almost only for music). Both are excellent.
My 2008 15" MBP was an excellent computer and any problems (a HDD failure after two years) were dealt with under Applecare.
As I travel a lot, and weight is an issue, I bought a 13" MBA in September 2010, and within a very short time, it became my main - and, since I sold the MBP - my only computer, and still is. Having had a number of HDD problems (two iPods, and one MBP had HDD failure), I must say I am completely sold on the SSD. It's blindingly fast, and brilliant, despite the slower processor as Lee has pointed out. I also love the sheer lack of weight (the 15" MBP, while a great computer, was simply too heavy for constant travelling), and the fantastic resolution of the screen. However, it is a dream to work with, and, while I would never (willingly) return to a world of standard HDDs, nevertheless, many of the international organisations I have worked with tend to use (and expect you to use) elderly Windows machines, say, HP, or Dell........so I don't often have much choice in the matter.
My only gripe is that I would like if the SSD was larger than 128GB (yes, we have become terribly spoilt in the past few years). With that in mind, my next computer will certainly be a MBA, with at least 256GB SSD. I expect that prices will drop and capacity will increase, eventually, over time.
Nonetheless, I am very happy with the Apple products I have, currently a classic iPod (80GB), an iTouch (64GB) and a 13" MBA.
Cheers
