Now I am not sure. With the amazon price on a 16gb/1tb mb pro, I’m thinking of returning and getting that. My m2 config is midnight 16gb/512. It seems almost a no brained with the amazon deal.
This is what I did today, currently testing both :)

I'm very happy with mine. I'm really trying to think of something negative about it but I can't. Maybe more granular control with the keyboard backlight? I tried to get it dimmer and the choice right before it turned off seemed too bright in a dimly lit room. I mean that's the only thing that came to mind. I've played WoW classic on it and it works great getting 60 FPS at the classic graphics setting. I've watched lots of YouTube videos and the picture quality and sound is great. In full screen the notch isn't in the way of the videos. No fan noise whatsoever!

I got silver because I heard black was a fingerprint magnet and I've always loved the classic look of silver MacBooks. I would reccomend this to anyone who is using it for general computing. If you're heavy into gaming get a PC and for video editing get the 14" Pro.

I was close to this decision, but ultimately the size, weight, and battery are more important to me. The benefits of the Pro over the MBA don't give me any real benefits since I don't do intensive tasks. Also, I can buy on the Apple Card and do the no interest thing along with the 3% back...

The amazon deal was too good. Will enjoy the larger and better screen, the better speakers. While the rest is overkill for the needs, had wanted the larger sod as this is for my mom and she will not be carrying around extra ssds. She keeps all her photos on the hd. Much happier with my decision. Personally I already have a 14 mb preorder and I love the beast.

just setup the new m2 air and the SPEAKERS have a slight rattle at loud volumes. :(

funny enough, my m1 air had a similar thing happening and I just had apple care fix it.

the m2 is going back! ****. now need to decide if it's worth the energy to try this again...

My macbook is great! If you already have the M1 Air just return the M2 Air. It's not that of a speed bump.

I hear the M3s generation is going to a bigger jump, might as well wait till then

Exactly. Same as my experience on my new unit. Much preferred over my M1 MBA, which I’m giving to one of my kids.

I assume the one on the right is the MBP? Those black levels and backlight uniformity alone would be worth the upgrade for me.
Yes indeed.. there's a slightly difference and you can notice but obviously when you are playing a test video like that and they are next to each other. Is difficult when we are talking about exactly the same price for both.

I really like the M2 Air design, but no sale. I'd need to spec up to get the best of it and that brings it far too close to the 14" MBP. So I'll stick with my M1 13" MBP as it delivers and when the time comes pick up the M2 14" Apple's decision to go with a single nand SSD for the base M2 Air & 13" MBP has deliberely crippled the notebooks.

That's the game and Apple plays it better than most as we know all too well...

After feeling how hot it gets (feels like an intel!, at least during the setup), and the speaker issue above, gonna stick with m1 air and return.

What on earth were you doing during setup that made it even warm? Just after first boot, I downloaded from iCloud my photo library with 21,000 full-size pictures and my 3,000-song music library while also running Time Machine backups and it didn't get above room temperature.

Different horses for different courses. I'm in engineering and can pretty much light up any computer. The real magic is picking the one that presents the best value...
