8GB/256GB Midnight, not had a single issue with it or heating of any kind.

It's the perfect entry level laptop for MacOS and makes those "reviewers" look utterly pathetic now.

Also, why are so many people buying this when its clearly not meant for their work loads, then they complain ffs.

If you can't afford a MacBook Pro 14" and buy the Air instead, maybe just maybe look elsewhere for something that will work better for you.

Both are Magic Keyboards and the Air has the same keyboard as the 14 & 16 mbp. The frame color looking a little different in the Air doesn’t mean it isn’t the same keyboard.
well having both I can tell you they look completely different and feel completely different. The air m2 feels firm and shallow and the kids feel a bit larger and closer on the MBP M1 14, and squishier. its defiantly not the same..

my two cents on the Air (assuming one is not in need of Pro specs)

i’ve been using a 13” mbp w/ touch bar and intel cpu for a few years. solid machine as long as i’m plugged in. it’s a battery hog if doing anything intensive like video meetings, but otherwise it got the job done.

took delivery of a 10/10/24GB/512GB starlight M2 air yesterday.

very happy with the purchase. screen is noticeably larger, much snappier performance all around, and a wonderful design/form to hold and and carry. battery is also great vs what i was used to. i’m also very much a starlight color fan (mini ipad and watch are starlight), so kinda fun to harmonize the laptop color.

i don’t see the need for M1 MBA owners to upgrade if only accounting for performance. the M1 MBA is a great machine. however if you’re on an older intel apple laptop, i’d suggest looking at the M2 assuming the cost delta between the M1 and M2 is not an issue.

opinion: M1 is probably the best value. apple will likely sell mountains of those to corp, institutes and other bulk buyers. that customer group is also why i think they are keeping the M2 Pro w/ touch bar in the lineup.

I am just back after spending a few days at our holiday home, took the M2 MBA with me and Mrs also took her M1 MBA. I have no regrets, it's a keeper. Fast, long battery life, slightly better keyboard, much better display and camera. Overall very happy with it.

If you have an M1 MBA then I see no reason to upgrade, if you are coming from an older device and don't need what the 14/16" offers then either the M1/M2 MBA are options.

Think the M2 Air is nice but a few things I don't like compared the 14 MBP
-1, keyboard, much nicer on the 14, its all uniform, the M2 Air has metal between each key, making it more difficult to type IMO
-2, its very thin! had it yesterday in my backpack and had to be extra careful with it, not used to that with thicker models
-3, speakers are not very good IMO, especially compared to the 14
-4, logo, is nicer on the 14 as it has more contrast (picky I know) 😜
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I have the M2 MBA, the 14" M1 Pro MBP , and 16" M1 Max MBP that I own.

1) Just not true. The only difference is the MBPs have the metal between the keys painted black. Other than that I don't see or feel any difference between the keyboards.
2) Oh please. When the MBA is closed it's just as rigid as the MBPs. There is nothing you need to be careful about that you don't need to with the MBPs.
3) Speakers are better than M1 Air, worse than the 14" MBP, and they all suck compared to the 16" MBP. So what? It's thin and light, did someone miss the memo on this?
4) The embedded logo on the MBPs is nice, but if this is your decision point on getting a laptop, get the MBP, it will be better for your ego apparently.

If someone doesn't want to like the MBA, good for them. But complaints like this are simply misleading for anyone without experience on these different machines.

It's almost like people are looking for reasons to return this device?
I bought one on release day. It was replacing a very aging, Acer Chromebook. My uses on my Chromebook were web browsing, emails, YT vids, streaming tennis matches, the occasional small bit of work etc.
I am NOT a power user by any means, hence a Chromebook doing the trick.

But I updated to this M2 Air and I love it. I went with midnight. Yeah it gets fingerprints, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm just waiting for Casetify to make snap on outer shells like they do for the older models and I'll be good.

It's a massive upgrade from my Chromebook and my Sony headphones sound amazing wired to this thing. I absolutely don't need a 'Pro' MacBook and I could have probably gotten an M1 Air and been happy, but I liked the new design and midnight colour, so thought, why not. Very pleased with it.

These are not complaints just msg opinions so far - that’s all. Both are nice machines. I just like the robust feeling of the pro …. Personal opinion.

It has been determined to be a keeper for my couch driver. Base model in midnight. Truth be told I struggled between a 14 MBP mostly due to the screen and the current BB sale @ $1750 16/512 but form factor won out for me. If Apl would bring back the 12" it would win hands down between both of them. Also still waiting for the Mac mini Pro/M2 whatever. . .

As a side note after using the M1 Air for 14 mo then trying the 12.9 iPad due to the screen on the Air giving me eye strain this little M2 Air is a delight with no issues to report.

EDIT 7/31: Well after 2weeks with the M2 Air, 1 week camping off the grid watching movies at night I returned the Air today. The speakers and screen are no match for the 12.9 iPad much less a 14" MBP. I checked the BB sale and the base mdl was down to $1699... SOLD. It is larger and heavier but we choose our battles I suppose.
