I've been to the Apple store Genius Bat on numerous occasions because of problems I've had with my MacBook's, iPods, and iPhones. I am just blown away by how excellent Apple customer service is, however I always leave the store feeling guilty because I don't now if I should have tipped the person who helped me with my device.

I have never worked in an apple store, but I would be willing to bet that they are trained to not accept tips.

If they arent offering food, then no.

joking but I never would.

Are you...kidding? No, they're doing their job at the level they should be. If you really want to do something, as for a manger and tell them that whoever helped you did a great job.

I offered one of them 100$ since he replaced my 3GS after I dropped it. I was all ready to pay the 200$ fee since it was my fault and he just said don't worry, it's on the house. I offered him 100$, but he said no. I then offered to buy the genius bar workers all coffee, but he again declined.

But for good service? Kind of out of the ordinary. But heck if you feel like it, go for it.

One time a patient tried to tip me after I sewed up his leg with twenty stitches. I was flattered, but didn't accept. Still felt good and makes a great story.

probably against company policy ... reason being is ... each Genius has the choice to offer service that is not covered under warranty.

If clients were then tipping cash ... you see where this is leading

so the answer is no ... offer them a hug

I have never heard of anyone doing this.

Someone may come in here and tell a story of doing it, but I think it's probably very rare.

Hmm how about this tip "Green poison working well to JB 4.2.1 untethered"
Money no,
good customer service is normal ( I would hope)

They are not allowed to accept it; I requested to provide a small tip to an employee when I got my iPad from them but he said they cannot accept it as "this is not a restaurant."

Yes, always tip the stylist 15%.
No, don't tip the owner of the salon.
Okay John?
Right?
Got it.

Cultural Question

I'd be interested in where (what culture) SashaFierce if from. I've never heard of tipping Apple Genius Bar workers, or any workers at retail electronics stores. The thought had never crossed my mind until about five minutes ago, when I read SashaFierce's comment.

In my culture (midwestern USA), you only tip people who touch you or your food.

OK, and cab drivers.

I didn't know it was hard for some to figure out at what kinda places one should tip.

Tip:
Taxi drivers
Waiters
Shops/delis with tip boxes

No tip:
Corporate stores
Post offices
Pharmacies
Supermarkets
Hospitals
DMV

in the UK it is against the law to accept tips... (within such a retail organisation... retail ethics more than proper law)
