Give the lack of new features (except some very minor ones), iOS 12 is likely to be another very slowly adopted release. People don't update unless there are visible changes, most people don't understand the importance of under the hood improvements.

Id say that multiperson facetime is enough of a feature alone that will goad many to update. Too bad thats not available at launch ofc. Also i think grouped notifications will be super attractive to anyone who sees their friends’ newly updated phones

Why did the date change? I thought it was September 12th for the unveiling and then September 14th for the pre-order?

You can download Watch OS4 today! Watch OS5 is what is just around the corner

Parental controls will be amazing tho with iOS12!
Hah, I get confused because Series 4 is what is coming out. Sigh…this is not the first time I have done this and will likely not be the last.

I can't wait for iOS12. I accidentally updated from iOS10->11, and my device is much slower with much worse battery life. It also freezes up more than any version of iOS I've used in the past. (iphone 6s). At this point anything will be an improvement.

Never understood all the hate on iOS 11.
Sure a couple of release issues quickly fixed.

IPad Mini 2 ran fine. IPad Pro 12.9 running it great and even with full time use only charge every other day, iPhone 6S+ ran it great also. Lost one app. Now the iPhone is on the latest iOS 12 beta and it’s been a dream.

When folks see how good 12 is, they’ll update

I have to say that the adoption rate of new operating systems at Apple is superb. Only 5% of users are two generations behind and just 10% one generation behind. That's simply amazing.

"iOS 11 adoption has been slower than iOS 10 adoption, perhaps due to the multiple high-profile bugs affecting iOS 11"

I can guarantee that's not true. The vast majority of iOS users have no clue about bugs or features or performance, except what they have already encountered.

iOS 12 beta on my iPad mini 4 has restored my faith in upgrading iOS. I had decided I would never update after one or two new major updates as my devices would slow down thereafter, but 12 has been great.

I think the adoption rate for iOS 12 will spend on the number of high profile bugs creep into the final product. Even people that do not know about such things hear the press talk about bugs and stay away.

I know I say this every time there's an iOS adoption-rate article, but as persistent and dark-patterned as iOS upgrade nags are, I'm surprised there are that many able to hold out.

That should be a huge indicator to Apple that if, despite their nefarious tactics to force people to upgrade, that many people still make that much of an effort to avoid updating... stop putting out iOS updates before they're baked! This once a year upgrade cycle is unnecessary and self-imposed. Stop releasing software before it's ready! Same goes for macOS.

Three plus years ago family and friends upgraded their Apple gear ASAP. Since then they all refuse to upgrade until I tell them its ok. Why? Because they have been screwed by upgrading automatically. So while they may not understand the tech, they do understand the poor quality that Apple has been putting out because it has affected them.

I don't expect that to change with one iOS major release. So we'll see, but I don't expect anyone will start upgrading with the first new major version in my family or friends.

False statistic. When iOS forces you to upgrade there's no wonder it's so high. Give people the option to downgrade or not force people to update and the adoption rate will plummet like a stone

I only upgraded to 11 because apps refused to work any more. Now my iPhone 6 is running slower and hotter. Can't wait for 12 to make it worse.

I'm sure the dropping of 32-bit app support affected iOS 11 adoption as well. And I say that as one of the holdouts still on iOS 10...
That's my main reason. I'll wait to update when I'm forced to buy a new iPhone and then remain on that iOS until the next iPhone purchase.

Have you been part of the 12 beta program? Have you seen how great it runs? I can’t wait for the GM release.

I am still running iOS 10 on my iPad mini 4 as 11 will slow it down and there is no other iPad that can replace it. I use it mounted on the yoke of an airplane to display charts and approach procedures.

I'm very much hoping for a mini 5 this month.
