iOS 12 debunked it. Anyway if you firmly Apple intentionally sabotages its devices for the purpose of sales, you go for it.

It's laughable to think such practice applied by almost the entire tech industry is "debunked" by an iOS release.

I usually wait until the X.4+ release so that most of the bugs have been flushed out before I update. But oh man is iOS 11 still a mess. Overlapping text, horrible use of space, that god-awful "alphabetical" list, the "showing only music on this iPod" banner. And that doesn't even start on all the frustrating/annoying behaviors. If you haven't updated, don't. I'd prefer to go back to iOS 8 if it was easy...

It’s laughable to think that Apple engages in planned obsolescence and I am still waiting for proof.

Ooh you are waiting for proof.. oh ok. Why don't you write Timmy an email just to clarify since it's unclear?

Answer would come signed as "Sent from my iWielding machine".

I would like to turn OFF some of Apple's paranoid privacy features, the thing that makes touch ID (and apple watch unlocking) expire especially, but also USB restricted mode. I plugged my ipad into my Mac to charge it some time ago, then came back later and found it hadn't charged at all because I had to poke at the screen to enable the USB connection... *sigh*

I don't need, or want these protection features. They just get in my way in my daily life. I'm sure that for some people they're good, and they should definitely be in there, but let me turn them OFF if I feel they don't add any benefit to me. I don't think that's asking for too much, nor is it compromising the security of anyone else either.

No, we are waiting for proof, but you can’t provide any because Apple doesn’t engage in that type of a nefarious business practice. You made the allegation, so prove it.

Don’t bother, you can’t.

Firstly, nothing is stopping the developers from updating their apps to 64-bit. It's not Apple's fault that the developer of some app you bought 8 years ago has abandoned it.
2014 was not 8 years ago. In fact, Apple was still allowing 32-bit-only apps on the App Store as recently as 2015, and allowed users to purchase them as recently as 2016 without warning about future compatibility issues.

Two years is not enough time, which is why I hate Apple's "we know best" attitude on things like this. How hard would it be to just let the legacy apps continue to work, but block developers from uploading new 32-bit-only apps to the App Store?

I used to be one of the people who always wondered why some people refuse to updated until I turned into a situation where I can not updated myself.... still on iOS 10. I wonder why others don't

I have to say that the adoption rate of new operating systems at Apple is superb. Only 5% of users are two generations behind and just 10% one generation behind. That's simply amazing.

And they are behind for a reason. The device runs better on the older operating system.

Get the reason for 100% adoption by apple, now?

Pretty slow processing time for an i7, 486guy.

iOS 11 turned out to be "OK". Runs great on my X. I am looking forward to iOS12 being faster and having better RAM management, however.

No worries! Too much hardware and software to keep straight nowadays!
Yeah and what's really weird is they pulled tvOS version numbering forward so basically all iOS derived devices are going to be on 12 except watchOS. Makes me wonder if this was intentional because it will eventually run their AR stuff.

I'm not sure that's the reason. What makes you say this?

And if this is the case, then iOS 12 should dispel any claims that devices run better on older software. The main point of the new OS is optimization with performance gains, even on old devices, in the double digit. Time will tell.

Have you been part of the 12 beta program? Have you seen how great it runs? I can’t wait for the GM release.

I hope your right. No I never do the betas, learned that lesson. Can't afford dedicated hardware to test on, can't afford to lose the devices that I do have to stupid Apple bugs.

would be nice to be able to plug the iPhone into the MacBook (with it's ****** webcam) and run the iPhone as a HD Webcam... sweet dreams everyone!

As Android 9 Launch Approaches, Android 8 Adoption Hits 14.6 Percent

See the difference between Android and iOS adoption rates is that update promises are entirely up to the manufacturer and them living up to their promises. Most people will gladly update to the latest versions of Android if they could but unless they have an Android One or Pixel device they will have to either wait longer than usual or purchase a new phone to receive an update. My point is any stats related to adoption rates on Android would be flawed in nature anyway. The very fact that manufacturers generally don't provide more than two major updates will naturally mean a major portion of users will be left behind unless they use custom ROMs.

I personally don't see Apple's adoption rates as particularly "Remarkable", the updates are completely free and the changes in the OS are almost indistinguishable which means no getting used to a different experience. In other words, there's no risk in upgrades apart from potential bugs. The great thing about Apple is they have been providing updates for older devices for a while now. It's a win-win situation. Most people like in the case of Mac OS would upgrade, especially when it's free.

Given the sheer number of iPhone 5/5c still around (emerging markets etc.) that 85% sounds very close to 100% of eligible devices...

isn't that the number apple had always used?

ii remember the keynote where apple compared Android version adaption vs. ios version adoption, and they compared the newest iosXX on all eligible devices vs the newest android on ALL Android devices. that was pretty cringy.

May be 85% but all the best games in my purchased section unable to download due to developer incompatibility, or app removed from the store :(

I suppose i should of seen that one coming.

Still on iOS 7.1.2!

I think the 5% have to be the devices that no longer allow newer updates. We have an iPad 2 which is stuck on 9 I believe.

And you hardcore folk who hold out!
That due RAM constraints in your device!

Who is waiting ???

Nobody expects Apple to ever add 32 bit support back to IOS.

I have no issues of staying at IOS 10 forever until forced to upgrade if I ever decide to get a new IOS device.

Many of us also feel the same about MacOS and have no plans of updating past 10.13 .
I remember people saying similar nonsense about OS X 1.0 and PowerBooks.

I suggest you get off your soapbox made of old tech junk and get with it.
