Looks like England have learnt their Cardiff lessons. :)

Fingers crossed!

The Aussie bowlers haven't been great so far, quite a fair few easy boundary balls. Cook should've been caught by Ponting in the slips.

Cook and Strauss do seem to be more reserved and trying to build an innings rather than score quickly.

Sky seem to love showing close ups of the pitch. Lords does seem to be a much better surface in terms of quality than Cardiff.

nice steady start.

Have to give credit to Sky for the coverage (even though I think it should be on terrestrial TV) where else could you hear Bumble getting excited because he's seen Stephen Fry at Lords thus meaning he can try to out twitter him.

What I find astonishing is that this, apparently, is the highest ever England opening partnership!
50?

Can that be true?

Edit: 10 4s off Mitchell Johnson in 7 overs. What a horrible day he's having.

that can't be true... can it

Doing some googles now.

Would seem the highest 1st wicket score was 323 in Melbourne in 1911-12. Can't find record for 1st wicket in a match in England.

I thought it was hilarious :D

Seems questionable, according to howstat.com the best that cook and strauss have done as openers against Australia is 45 so I can't see how in the entire history of test cricket and the vast number of players, teams we have played that we haven't managed at least 50.

edit:

Highest partnership for England was 130 for the 10th wicket in 1903. So maybe it is true.

Well that is a little different to the stats I am seeing, that listing is only the 10th best

I just rewinded Sky+ to make sure I didn't mishear.

OK. Seems Bumble "misspoke" ;) First he says highest for England (Which I find difficult to believe).
But a minute later he seems to infer it is the highest opening partnership between Cooke and Strauss… and they have batted together 57 times.

Yeah that seems to fit with my findings.

Siddle was very unlucky there with that delivery, instead of getting a wicket it goes for a four.

Cook seems to be pushing his luck.

Tis a shame for Cook, every English cricketer wants a century at Lords, so close.

As I heard a commentator say at the Cardiff test, when you think you are in a good position, think would we still be in a good position if a couple of quick wickets fell.

Now that 3 wickets have fallen 280-3 still feels like a good position to be in, although of course with England a couple of quick wickets could be 4 or 5 :D

Hopefully Colly and Strauss can form a good partnership, two sensible heads.

Strauss is playing very well today — solid and thoughtful.
Alas, KP looked like he was going to be out almost every ball. Uncomfortable to watch.

Agree about Collingwood & Strauss having to hold it together now.

I guess I'll retract my sensible head comment about Collingwood, what the hell was that shot.

And another wicket down to, all rather cheap from all bar two batsmen.

Flintoff's last test match at Lords. Hope he has a good first innings.

a few quick wickets but id say England are still going pretty well on 5 for 330.

Make that 333-6

Second time today we have been caught out on a Nelson.

We will now have to rely on a good tail order to bring our score up towards the 400-450 mark.

Michael Holding said yesterday, in references to Cardiff, that scoring 450 and then struggling to keep the game at only a draw isn't a sign of batting problems.

If we manage to get up to around 400+ it should put England in reasonable good stead. Australia managed to get a decent amount of wickets from frankly normal bowling yesterday, hopefully our bowlers will bring it this test.

Looks like it is going to be the bowlers' day today… so at least England have an excellent chance of keeping Australia's score down.

That is the theory of course.

Oh dear another wicket gone. edit: Just realised I am watching it slightly delayed so that wicket actually went about 6 or 7 minutes ago, sorry if I scared anyone.

In other news Broad's sister, Gemma, is very pretty.
