If you have any general questions, fire away.

I first want to say that you can do one of several things this Friday to receive your phone.

I work in an office building in Manhattan so I know both my Fed-Ex and UPS guys pretty well. Once I know whether my phone shipped UPS or Fed-Ex is it unethical to offer them something if I can get my package first thing in the am?

Thinking cash :)

Just chill at home and wait. You will most likely get your delivery before 10:30. Don't panic though if not. Check the tracking number, and if it says (Out For Delivery) you will get it that day. Unless the truck explodes and your iPhone perishes in the fire.

Sign a note or Door Tag and leave it on your door. Be sure to sign the note. (we will leave the phone if you do this. I do not recommend this though for obvious reasons) You can even direct the driver to please deliver it to a neighbor who you know will be home.

You can also have it held at the FedEx station or have it delivered to a FedEx Office (Kinkos) where it can be held there. I'm not 100% sure how you do this. I guess call 1-800-GOFEDEX and go from there. I know this can be done though because people do it all the time. You will need to have the tracking number to do this.

Any other questions I'll try and answer.

What do you know about Smart Post or "Postal mix" as it says on Apple.com...

I'm having serious doubts that it will make it through the extra hurdle of USPS for delivery on Friday. Your insight?

Maybe it's different for the iPhone? I have not heard that though.

If you call early enough, before the trucks hit the road you should be able to hold it there. I think. All I know for sure is that once in a while one of our CSA's will come up to me while I'm loading and organizing my truck and she will ask for a certain package on my truck. And what is usually happening is it is being held. If they say one attempt has to be made you could throw a fit and see if that works. It might. lol

I can touch on this. I worked as an International Specialist for FedEx so I worked directly in the station. It is generally frowned upon to ask FedEx to hand over a package before it has made a trip out on the truck. That being said some nice people will gladly run back and grab it for you.

Do you know who you be delv for? It appears not APPLE is ATT Verizon or Sprint using Fedex for iphone 4s?

Trido

I know nothing of it. Sorry. Is the USPS delivering the phones too? Maybe that's what my manager meant by UPS and someone else doing the majority of the deliveries. I do know that the USPS uses/piggybacks our FedEx planes for a lot of their air mail though.

How come you and your bff UPS never delivery my things before at least 6 PM? EVER. I'm an impatient person. And I don't even line in the middle or nowhere or anything.

/totally kind of kidding btw

Non air shipments to residential addresses go on different trucks that show up at different times. your phone will be delivered by FedEx. You underware from Sears will be delivered by FedEx Home Delivery.

Thanks for that and I agree, if you are aggressive enough and make a good point as to why you need to pick it up and can't have it delivered, you can probably work that out.

Does the carrier the day of iPhone delivery JUST delivering iPhones or other stuff too?

Just wondering...

When pre-ordering the iPhone on the Verizon website, there was a choice to ship to a residence or business. Seeing that the business button was greyed out, I just put in my work address as a residence. Will I have any problems with my order? The "Suite" part of my address turned into "APT".

I think that would increase your chances for an earlier delivery. I doubt the driver would take any money, I wouldn't, but you'd be in the back of my mind. We typically go the same direction on our routes everyday though so if you are at the back end it may not be possible unless it's a light freight day. Which it probably won't be.

Can we find the closest hub on the fedex website? Also where do we get door tags?

I'm pretty sure you could find the closest location on the website. Door tags, well, if you can find a driver you can ask for one. You can just leave a note though, with a signature.

I don't really have a question, but this is a cool thread. Thanks to the OP for starting it and taking questions. Props.

Shouldn't be an issue. I wonder why that was greyed out... I'm thinking because as a driver I'd just have the receptionist sign and give her/him your phone.

Wow, thanks for the quick response. Really appreciate the help you're giving all of us!

Thanks for taking the time out to Q&A. That's deep yo.

So all I have to do is call I guess the 1-800 number and ask them to hold it t my local hub?

It'd be great if they could deliver it to my local fedex office so I can just walk from work and grab it. I'd pay money for that...so tell your boss ;).
Edit : just saw your first post. Drool.

Yes. I'd say that delivering it to a FedEx Office would be ideal actually. That gets the 'one delivery attempt' out of the way and then it's waiting for you at the FXO.

Yeah I see what you mean.

Also, can you explain the arrow that's in the logo?

Hey, it's better than UPS. UPS will not deliver your item if it arrives any day before the day it arrives.

Anytime some one ships UPS, watch the package. It can arrive 2 days earlier but they will not deliver it til the day they estimate it will arrive.

FedEx and the USPS are so much nicer about that (both will deliver it soon as it gets there).

As an impatient person who tends to watch tracking numbers religiously (especially for stuff I'm really excited about getting), you tend to notice these things (and hold it against UPS that they won't deliver it earlier even if it is in the local office just waiting to be put on a truck out for delivery).
