I have a question!

first, thanks for answering our questions!

Here's mine:

My boyfriend ordered his 4S over the phone with AT&T and the CSA took down the address wrong (2030 instead of 2130). The street name and the zip code were all correct. He didn't know they got it wrong until he was emailed the Terms to agree to and saw the mistake. By this time it was too late for them to change the address. Apparently it is still set to deliver on Friday but he doesn't know which carrier yet. If it is coming FedEx what do you suggest he does? I will also be getting a 4S that day at the correct address. Should we just tell the FedEx guy when he delivers mine that there is a 2nd one? Would he be allowed to deliver it? Should he call first thing and ask for it to be held at the FedEx location? Should we stalk the FedEx guy in our neighborhood this week and tell him the situation? What do you think?

THANKS! :p

Yeah I suggest you keep an eye and ear out for your FedEx guy. When he comes to your house, just explain like you did here. :)

Will FedEx ship on a different day if we request? We are out of town and need it delivered later than the 14th. The local FedEx office is quite a far drive for us.

Of course.

I have a question I won't be home from 9AM-12:30PM. If they come during that time will they try again in the afternoon or will I have to pick it up at the Fedex/kinkos office later?

You already know the answer. One shot per day.

Hi. I will jump in here too if the op doesn't mind. I don't work for express, but I am an independent contractor for FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery. I deal with express drivers every day and the manager at the express terminal. I know quite a bit about how they operate, so if you have any questions I'll try to help answer them.

From what I know you can call ahead and have your package held. As long as you have the tracking number. You will have to have an id and tracking number with when you pick it up to verify you are who you say you are.

If you are not having it held and aren't going to be home the driver will hang a door tag on your door. I am assuming the packages will have an indirect signature option on them. What this means is if you are not home the driver will attempt to deliver to a neighbor. If you live in the sticks more than likely this won't happen. And also, if your neighborhood isn't the best the driver has the discretion to indirect or not.

Ok, so you weren't home and your package was indirected. There will be a tag on your door saying who has your package. Easy enough, go grab it. But let's say you weren't home and received a door tag saying a delivery attempt was made and you weren't home. You can now sign the door tag to have your package left the next day. Keep in mind when you sign that it is your loss if the phone is left and somebody picks it up. Your are assuming responsibility at that point so just remember that.

As far as making multiple attempts. We usually will reattempt if time permits. There are many other deliveries that need to be made the same day so this is usually up to your driver. Multiple attempts are not guaranteed same day. But your package will be attempted for three days. If at this point you still haven't got it, a postcard will be mailed to you to come pick it up.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me anything else.

What happens when you independents take stuff home instead of back to the facility?

The independents have really degraded the quality of both UPS and Fedex. They make their own rules, deliver outside of required windows, take packages home, and even lie about actual delivery times.

Does anyone know if Verizon ships Fedex Overnight - priority, first class or standard? This determines the time of delivery according to the guy I asked at Fedex.

Priority: 8 a.m.
First Class: Between 10:30 a.m. - Noonish
Standard: Between noon-4 p.m.

Fedex experts, please let me know if I'm wrong. Thanks!

I think Apple has set what speed these are delivered.

FedEx Express has these services...

First Overnight - This is the earliest you can get stuff. By 8am in many cases. Depends how close you are to the FedEx station.

Priority Overnight - 10:30

Standard Overnight - 3:00

2-Day - 4:30
2-Day AM - 10:30

Express Saver - Third business day

I recently moved into an apartment building for the first time. There is no doorman, so when I buzz the FedEx/UPS guy into the building, do I need to meet him/her in the lobby to sign for the package or will delivery persons typically go up to the apartment unit door and knock for a signature?

FedEx > *

I'm waiting for my moms iPhone 4 but just wanted to throw that out there.

What's the deal with tracking numbers that begin with 5? Some CSRs have said this isn't a valid tracking number format, but it's what we got from ATT...

I have never had an apartment where I needed to be buzzed in but I would guess your courier would go to your apartment to complete the delivery. I would. If you meet him in the lobby that's cool too. Bring your ID though in case he asks for it.

I have no idea. I've never heard that.

Hey guys. I wanted to mention that if you happen to miss your delivery on Friday and can't pick it up that many FedEx stations will reattempt them on Saturday. Not sure that this is the norm but my station will try and reattempt as many as we can on Saturday. You can also pickup from the station on Saturday. We have Sunday off so.. then you'd have to wait till Monday.

Is there any way for us to tell what type of Express delivery we are getting?

I.E.: Is my iPhone being shipped First Overnight, Priority Overnight, etc...?

UPS uses certain tags in their tracking numbers to divide the different delivery options. Does FEDEX do this somehow in their 12 digit tracking numbers?

I think it's either Priority or Standard Overnight. I'm not sure about the tracking number being able to reveal which one though. It never crossed my mind.

It's going to be one of those weird days though. You should get the delivery earlier rather than later though in most cases I would think. I would expect a 9-3 window.

Thanks for the reply. I imagine you are working on Friday? Have fun delivering to all the giddy Apple fans.

I figured as much on my own. I'm not as worried/panicky as some of these guys are. I'll be just as happy to get it at 5:00pm as I would be to get it at 9:00am.

I always wondered if it was possible to track FedEx parcels the same as you can with UPS.

I actually requested Friday off a while ago. They asked me today if I could work anyway because of the iPhone and I said NEWP. It's being delivered to my house by UPS.

But yeah I don't think the tracking number means anything because you can just fill out a random airbill and attach it to your package.. and the airbills don't know what service you will select. What we mostly look at is the lettering above the barcode. It's basically another language you learn at FedEx.. it tells you what service type and station the package is going to. This is used when the handlers sort packages.

Is there a signature form we can download to leave on our door if we won't be home during delivery?

Or, what elements does FedEx require for an indirect signature request to be honored and leave package at my door. ( I live in a "nice" neighborhood ;))

You can just write on a piece of paper, preferably something smaller rather than a whole sheet of paper and put it on your door.

Just say hey leave my package here. Or explain to deliver it to a certain neighbor. Sign the paper. The signature is what we need. Print your name too. :)

----------

I would like to add that if your delivery requires a DIRECT Signature this not allowed to be done. In the past these deliveries are INDIRECT Signatures.. which means a note or signed door tag is ok. I'm pretty sure these are Indirect Signatures still. They have been in the past.

Hey, thanks for answering all these questions. I'm curious, do you guys make your own route/delivery order or is it all pre-determined through gps, etc.? I've always wanted to know...

Shouldn't be an issue. I wonder why that was greyed out... I'm thinking because as a driver I'd just have the receptionist sign and give her/him your phone.

When I preordered my iPhone 4, it was grayed out for me as well in one browser, but not another (can't remember which). In other words, I think it's just bad CSS/javascript on Verizon's website.

We choose which way we go for the most part. Some stations do have their stop order set in their power-pad but even then they don't have to follow it strictly.

Oh and we don't have gps in the trucks either if anyone was wondering. lol My iPhone is my gps if I get in a pinch!
