I HAVE T-Mobile and have the phone on me right now. I'm sitting at SFO international terminal, one of the busiest terminals in the country. I currently have 1 bar, and it's 4G, not LTE. There's no actual data, it's just a single smoke and mirror bar. I have to use wifi to call or send a message. I have 3 lines on TMO and 9 lines with ATT. I am well aware of the differences.

This is why I got a Pixel and switched to Project Fi. Simple pricing. No BS. No quality issues so far. I would NEVER go back to AT&T, not even if you paid me.
[doublepost=1484108903][/doublepost]AT&T needs to be broken up again BTW...

Comcast now capping their internet at 1Tb. Above 1Tb Comcast will add 50gb for $10. Will not throttle as of now. No Unlimited for Comcast users.

Wrong. If you play extra $50 you can get unlimited from Comcast. I know because I have Comcast for internet and we go over that 1 Tb every mouth. I have a large family and I would pay over $200 more because we would go over the 1 Tb.

If you choose to use more than 1 TB in a month, we will automatically add blocks of 50 GB to your account for an additional fee of $10 each. Your charges, however, will not exceed $200 each month, no matter how much you use

For those who regularly use more than a terabyte in a month, we also offer an Unlimited Data Option.

The Unlimited Data Option costs an additional fee of $50 per calendar month. The fee is independent of actual data usage. The 1 Terabyte Data Usage Plan will not apply to customers who enroll in the Unlimited Data Option.

Incoming **** storm of people complaining about the price increase. Like, I get it. I absolutely do. But how is this a surprise? Apple raises the price of their Plus iPhone $29, and no one blinks an eye.

But these telecom companies raise the price on your plan, and this one they haven't offered for almost 7 years and you're surprised? I'm not defending what they're doing, and I know this is going to trigger a lot of people, but getting worked up over a trivial amount of money just isn't worth it. Especially when you knew it was coming.

And if you want to flame me, keep it civil please. There's worse things in the world than getting worked up over $5.
[doublepost=1484109381][/doublepost]The price increased by $20.00, not $29.00 for the cost difference between the Plus size iPhone 7 versus the Plus version of the iPhone 6s.

Why does anybody still use AT&T? I switched to Cricket a couple years ago, I'm still on the AT&T network, and I pay $30/month for unlimited everything. Yeah, my friends make fun of me for using Cricket, but I haven't noticed any difference in quality of service despite paying less than half of what I used to.

AT&T owns cricket. You're still paying them.

...but getting worked up over a trivial amount of money just isn't worth it.

$5 in a vacuum isn't much, but when you add it to all the subscription crap we all are paying, at some point that $5 is the tipping point. Plus, how many people are still on that plan? You mean to tell me AT&T can't absorb that hit? And they are not even taking a hit I'll bet, just not making *as much* as they want to be making. Total GREED.

This will not persuade me to switch to one of their newer, ******** plans. It will merely lead me to switch to T-Mobile.

That is exactly what I did in September 2016. Not only did I get a better deal with T-Mobile after eight years of being tethered to AT&T with their grandfathered plan (which offered no texting), but I received a free iPhone 7 for trading in my iPhone 6. Now I pay less per month and receive a lot more. I knew I would eventually be done with AT&T when they ceased offering their two-year subsidized plans. I had T-Mobile before 2008, and was always happy with them. At the time, however, they did not offer the iPhone.

does T-Mobile unlimited include tethering?

seme slike 5GB for $15 extra, but unlimited 2G edge tethering-- cans someone who has it clarify?
You already get unlimited tethering throttled to 3G speed (512kbps) with T-Mobile ONE. Unthrottled tethering it $25/mo.

Sure - but you can say that about any utility. Yet I don't see shock bills from my water company because I flushed the toilet a few extra times this month, and if I turn the heating off my gas bill goes down (because it's not an allowance system). The industry is broken and the relevant authorities appear to be broken themselves and/or lacking the powers they need to fix it.

That's because you pay per gallon. How are you not seeing this?

I just wish they would reduce my plan by the amount that they are no longer using to subsidize my phone.

Kinda out of subject but has anyone using Verizon actually seen their bill increased? I was told that they'd increase unlimited grandfathered plan by $20 more dollar (thus $50 per month) but my bill still states $30..

Crap, I just looked this up, and I'm at $50 now. I thought the increase in my bill was because I switched my home address to another state a couple of months ago, didn't notice this increase until looking at my bill after seeing your post.

Still makes most sense for me right now to keep using this, but when my current situation changes, I'm going to look elsewhere.

It's been 11 months since I've switched to Cricket. No issues, kept my same iPhone 6 Plus.
Phone bill is $35/month now. Used to be $92/month with AT&T.
I'd rather spend that extra $700 dollars and take a cruise once a year, instead of paying for AT&T's CEO to take a cruise.

They will likely do this yearly until enough people migrate that they can force everyone off one day.

Of course it is.... they are a company and that's what the exist to do.... make money. Some may not like it but People have options.

Go with a family plan and get the unlimited data. I have 4 phones on a family plan have the unlimited plan.... Bill date was 9 Jan and we've already used 10.1gig of data. The only time it's "throttled" is when it's in a high congestion area which typically my family isn't. I use it mostly working nights to surf the pron and play games.

Yeah I used to as well... Until Comcast kicked in their 1TB limit starting this month.... depends on where you live but here in Colorado they did. If both my kids are home from school (such as the Christmas break) we can hit that easily with all the Youtube watching and streaming. I can pay an extra $50 for unlimited but will have to see if, while in school, they come close to going over.
Who is your cell provider if you don't mind me asking.

Starting in March of 2017, AT&T will raise the prices of its grandfathered unlimited data plans by $5, according to information obtained by DSLReports. The price hike is AT&T's second price increase in the last 12 months and will raise prices from $35 to $40.

DSLReports forum users began receiving notifications about the $5 price increase in early January, and the site was able to confirm AT&T's plans. AT&T's statement on the new pricing is below:AT&T no longer offers standalone unlimited data plans to customers, but a small number of people continue to hold onto unlimited data plans that were purchased before AT&T discontinued them in 2010. Those plans allow customers to use an unlimited amount of data, but throttling does occur with excessive data usage.

AT&T previously raised prices for its unlimited data customers in February of 2016, increasing data plan costs from $30 to $35. AT&T's data plan costs are charged in addition to voice and text plan costs for unlimited customers, putting the minimum price on an unlimited data plan with text and voice (not unlimited) in the neighborhood of $90.

Over the course of the last several years, AT&T has used price hikes, data caps, and throttling to attempt to get its grandfathered unlimited customers to switch to new plans. In 2014, the FTC launched a federal court complaint against AT&T for its throttling practices, which led AT&T to scale them back.

At the beginning of 2016, AT&T reintroduced $100 unlimited data plans but limited them to AT&T users who subscribe to an AT&T DirecTV or AT&T U-Verse plan.

[doublepost=1484127175][/doublepost]Does AT&T think I'm going to stay with them if they force me off unlimited by pricing it to oblivion?

I just wish they would reduce my plan by the amount that they are no longer using to subsidize my phone.

That was the REAL price hike for those of us still on the grandfathered plans. $450 every 2 years or $18.75/month (for the 6S, the last iPhone you could get subsidized through AT&T). That is way more incentive for me to leave than nickle and diming me on the unlimited date plan.

I had the unlimited plan when it came out. But over time it became less useful. First I wanted to tether and then with a wife and kids, family plans with unlimited voice and text became a better deal for us. And with these hike there isn't much of a use case left. And that is sad. I had comcrap service for a while and had always hoped that a one of the big telcos would figure out how to price things so that I could do everything through them and get rid of internet service through the cable provider. Maybe someday, Tmob will do it.

You might want to make an informed choice. If you get "quadruple play" (as in Internet, Landline Phone, TV, Mobile Phone) from one company, you may pay less but in turn contribute to their big data silos. They would then know your favourite TV shows, your friends, your most frequently visited Internet sites, your location, etc; and I wouldn't want that knowledge concentrated in one place, regardless of whether it's AT&T, T-Mobile or Comcast. You'd probably need to fill in more personal details when you apply, and you would then become part of the data pool where advertisers (or any paying interested party in fact) can select "I want my campaign be targeted at females, 30-50 years old, interested in hockey, who are opinion leaders and tech savvy, frequent travellers, earning more than 100KUSD per annum..."

Governmental agencies may get the data anyway (with more or less administrative work), but you would want to weigh that against the amount of money you'd save if you conveniently got most services from one provider.
