Meh,

I've waited this long, what's another month. I really haven't missed MMS functionality too much on the iphone and I've adapted to it, so while it will be nice, its not a huge issue for me.

I wonder how many other people are in the same boat as this. I know a lot of people have raised a big stink over not being able to use MMS, but I wonder how much people actually use it or will use it? I've never sent an MMS in my life - emailing things straight from the phone just seems like a better alternative.

Well since its been so long since we have been waiting for the update you adapt and find other ways. And yes emailing is good, BUT, how do you send a pic to a person with a non-wed enabled phone? I want to send pics to my mom on her envy and my brother on his voyager, but I cant.

This is generally correct. But the problem is that the 95% of cell phone users don't have smartphones. Meaning that MMS is the easiest option if I want to send a picture to my mom, or my sister, or my friend in MT where AT&T doesn't offer service.

There is a workaround, of course - if I know what carrier they have, I can send a picture by email to the specific mail address for their carrier (i.e., phonenumber@vzwpix.com) and it will show up basically as an mms message to them...with a couple of formatting issues sometimes.

But if they send an MMS to me, I have to go to viewmymessage.com and follow its cryptic procedures. (Actually, I use MMSBuddy, but the principle remains the same). And even my workaround only works well if I happen to know what carrier they are on, what email address it uses, and have already entered that into my phone.

So, yeah, MMS is outdated, and the people I talk to most often do have smartphones. But most people still use MMS, and MMS will continue to be around for many years to come, as some people simply won't pay the premium for a smartphone.

Wow. I just posted this in a prediction thread. It's so obvious Apple will announce 3.1 at the event and release it on the last day of the month like they always do.

I don't think thats likely to happen , to early in the beta cycle.

Is AT&T secretly telling us that first generation owners are going to get MMS too? Look at the graphic! I can't believe nobody else noticed yet!

Dude, EVERYONE has noticed it. The thread is just too long to see that. Its been mentioned MANY times. Every person who sees it thinks they are the first.

You kidding? There are several comments about that in this thread and a whole thread dedicated to it in the iPhone forum.

WOW - the PUNDITRY

I'm not dismayed that it came from pcworld but I can't believe today's headline: "Network Woes, Hate the iPhone, not AT&T"

Are you serious!?

You want me to hate a consumer electronic device? WTFRk - You want me to "hate" something that, by the way, has blown up into cutting edge status and is simultaneously creating the next wave in top technology? (USA USA USA!!!!)... dood are you serious?

Wow pcworld I feel bad for your readers who eat this up.. Someone please call RoughlyDrafted and have Daniel explain

I disagree. Especially with living in Las Vegas, I have never had a problem with 3G or Edge service, all the way down to Kingman, AZ and Laughlin (hour and a half drive south), All the way down I-15 to the LA Basin, I-15 up to Cedar City, UT (2 hours drive northeast), and Indian Springs (45 minutes Northwest). 3G solid in every direction into and out of Las Vegas, and I live in the northwestern part of town, slapped next to Lone Mountain. You'd think I'd lose coverage next to that, but I have full bars in my apartment.

AT&T suxors in the inter-mountain west. Just try venturing off of any of the interstates to see what I mean.

Do us all a favour. Save yourself, your money and our bandwidth and get off ATT Now. If you don't like the service, leave it. No-one forced you to be with ATT.

I find it odd that you feel such brand identity to AT&T -- I didn't know there were AT&T zealots out there. A blander company that's more hostile to its customers I cannot imagine. Obviously you haven't received any cease and desist letters for daring to use your phone outside of an AT&T serviced area. At any rate, I guarantee 1) that there WILL be a mass exodus from AT&T when contracts expire, and 2) that YOUR service will suffer as AT&T has fewer resources to deal with mounting problems.

Finally, your concern over saving the bandwidth commons is hilarious. It's not your bandwidth to defend and police. People are free to do what they choose within the confines of the contract laid out between themselves and AT&T.

I'm pretty sure he's joking.

On an unrelated note - did anyone notice what the girl in the picture is holding?

LMAO...

Another funny one. You guys crack me up. Seriously. It's been a rainy day here on South Beach, so I needed a laugh two.

Thanks.

I just find its funny that in the pic the woman is shown holding a 1st gen iPhone which won't even support MMS

YMMV

On the peninsula, my Verizon coverage is superb.

The only problem I have is understanding calls from friends/colleagues who have Iphones - the voice quality is horrible.

"Can you hear me now?"
"What?"

"Can you hear me now?"
"What?"

"Can you hear me now?"
"What?"

MADE OF WIN!!!

Sounds like Telecom's new XT network.

97% of New Zealand my ass. My friend dropped a call in the middle of the largest city here.
