would it really have killed them to make it sept 21st so they actually make their own set deadline.

They're trying to Craiglist people.

"I see you're selling product X for $250."
"Yes sir"
"I'll give you $200"
Uhhhh, I dunno man. I'd really rather just wait for $250"
"Come on. $200 cash, in your hand. Today. Bam. Lets do this."
"Um, I guess so. $200 firm. Fine"
"K, great. See you in a bit"
-- the pair meet up, the seller going out of his way no less --
"Here it is."
"Cool, and here's your $150"
"Wait, what? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

From at&t:
We want you to know that we’re working relentlessly to innovate and invest in our network to anticipate this growth in usage and to stay ahead of the anticipated growth in data demand, new devices and applications for years to come.

Yeah, three years worth of work...

In celebration of this dear event, I've made an avatar for you to use. Enjoy it!

Sad as it is, the main reason I'm excited about this news is so I can quit being taunted by my non-iPhone-having friends about how their phones have allllways been able to send MMSs.

Can anyone confirm that sending an MMS message will count as 3 text message?

That will quickly eat into the basic 200 messages / month I have now.

*doh

I find it AMAZING that they didn't meet the late summer deadline.

I am thankful to finally have MMS, but I just know there will STILL be network slowdown with MMS, whatever they did to their network probably still won't be enough.

AT&T is one funny corporation...

Did anyone ever pick up on why the 2G can't do MMS? I never use to send any but I get a ton from friends and it sucks that I don't even get the option of going to the website to see them anymore. Hopefully they can crack the update and just enable MMS on a 2G without third party software.

AT&T Announces iPhone MMS Launch Date: September 25

AT&T has issued a press release today announcing that MMS will become active for iPhone users on September 25.
We've been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS when it launches - and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers. MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day.
AT&T points to the need for the company to build out its network infrastructure to handle the demands of heavy MMS messaging volumes as the primary reason for the delay in launching the service compared to carriers in other countries that have offered MMS since the launch of iPhone OS 3.0 in June.

As announced in June, MMS messaging will be included at no additional cost to users with an iPhone text messaging plan.

There has been much speculation on the availability of MMS from AT&T, some with dubious origins. Next week's Apple media event had been the subject of some speculation as a possible venue for AT&T to launch MMS, which was first promised at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in June, though today's news has put all such rumors to bed.

I believe someone already get a 2G to do MMS w/o 3rd part sofware. Threads on here somewhere.

Now I can party like it's 1999! Who cares about sending pictures by email, now AT&T can charge me to do it!

"MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day." --Does this imply that the OS 3.1 Update will be available on Sept.25? Maybe. We will probably learn about this during Apple's Media Event. MMS is "Media."

Enjoy your fast internet connection while it lasts. It will soon grind down to dial-up speed.
Apple should be introducing a word of caution to iPhone users: "it's up to you. don't send 50 billion MMS every day, or your network is going to be super slow. be responsible."

MY BROWSING SPEED IN SAFARI IS NOW GOING TO GRIND TO A SNAILS PACE BECAUSE OF ALL THE PEOPLE SENDING THOUSANDS OF MMS PHOTOS OF THEIR CATS ALL DAY LONG !!!!

nice

Probably the only best news I've heard from AT&T in a while. But I hope it works on the 25th. Better not wait another month to have the feature kick in that would just be pointless to show this to people and get their hopes up for another month.

I don't know how many times I nagged them on Facebook & Twitter about MMS as goes with everyone else who has an iPhone. I just don't get why they had to wait this long to just change a simple WAP setting. RETARDED:D

summer ends on the 22nd though... can i sue? im thinking $5,000,000,001,00.00 (the 1,000 is for court fees and what not)
