Great news. In order for the update to be early in the east coast, someone would have to wake up early in the morning on the west coast to do it. NORMAL WORKING HOURS. Geez.

How come? MMS is already working for people outside of the U.S. and all it was needed was iTunes 8 and firmware 3.0...

iTunes 9 and firmware 3.1 required! That's my prediction. We'll see tomorrow!

Also, the guy I was replying to (spencers) is in Texas.

Mark

Why would they?

iPhone OS 3.0 is perfectly capable of MMS. a carrier update includes no encrypted information.

Why? Because they can! The more folks using iTunes 9, the less folks with a prayer of a chance of syncing a Palm Pre to iTunes. It would be smart for Apple to require iTunes 9 and firmware 3.1 to install the new carrier settings file. Both of those upgrades go a long way toward stopping or slowing down the hacking.

It's what I would do if I was making the call at Apple! :)

Well that's very grown up isn't it.

But it is fun to show people how poor of a network and the lying AT&T has done it all it's stupid commercials! Maybe it will even make someone's local news where real reporting MIGHT be still going on (Everyone knows National news just all read AP and spin the news to their "political influence").

I don't really understand all this vitriol for AT&T. They were the only carrier initially willing to sign off on the iPhone, sight unseen, and have tried their best keeping up with the enormous bandwith consumed by iPhone users.

Any carrier would be under the exact same pressure if they had iPhone users consuming bandwith an order of magnitude greater than other smartphone users. Most people I know with Blackberry and WinMo phones use them to just text, DM, and talk. If people here think if the iPhone was suddenly on Verizon that all the network issues would be immediately rectified, you"re sadly mistaken.

Then you actually have people wanting to try their best to bring down the AT&T network, and use that as justification for why they're incompetent?

Idiots.....

AMEN!

And, honestly, I can't wait for Apple to end the AT&T exclusivity if for no other reason than all the AT&T whiners/haters will jump ship to whatever other carrier gets the nod, and me and the other few people that don't hate AT&T will have the network all to ourselves. :D

Carefull there , you're endangering the stability of the reality distortion field around here.

That said you bring up another good point.

On Friday everyone with an iPhone should MMS videos to Verizon phones. Then we can really guage which network has issues.

If AT&T's network blows so badly, then give up your precious iPhone, get a Crackberry and go elsewhere. Or better yet, go grab yourself a Pre and experience Sprint's pathetic network for as long as you can handle it.

Bring the giant down!

I am also one of those "******* children on the playground who's not allowed to eat dinner with the family" and I agree. We should all (everyone with an iPhone) send an mms at the same time & try to crash their network. It's not about the 20 bucks enough it's about the principal of the matter. AT&T has had ample enough time to beef up their network, they knew this was coming. If we crash their network maybe they will double their efforts to provide a reliable network. All AT&T does is brag about how great their network is, don't brag if you can't back it up. I hope you fail AT&T.

All you great citizens fighting the man for all of us brings tears to my eyes. After you bring down ATT on Friday, let's shoot for ExxonMobil on Monday. Pass the word, don't buy gas from EM on Monday.

I'm busy in Tuesday but would consider McDonald's or Starbucks for Thursday. Let me know.

I would but I grew up believing in keeping my word when signing a contract. I want a spotlight on AT&T so actually regular people see how bad their cell network actually is!

AT&T will continue to pay lip service to iPhone Users unless the nation news spotlight their spotty service.

By the way why don't you move since California is burning down?

See I can be sarcastic too.

I'm sure glad I live in San Diego. AT&T's service is FAR from terrible here. Frankly, I had more trouble with Verizon.

That said... it is some of AT&T's other policies that drive me crazy! For one, the decision to not allow the Sling Player app to have access to my Sling Box over 3G. Not that Verizon would act any differently. But, if Verizon were to get the iPhone, I'd switch just to spite AT&T!

Or, better yet, let's have multiple companies with the iPhone! Then we might have some true competition for supported features within the carriers! Imagine that!

Well he won't move because the logic givin by the AT&T defenders (any provider of the iPhone would suck as much as AT&T with all the bandwidth iphone users take up, blah blah blah) any state can burn like Cali, so why move?

Have you tried complaining to AT&T and telling them you want out of your contract? I had similar problems with Cingular about three years ago and they let me out of my contract because there was nothing they could do to fix the problem. Not saying that it will work for you, but if it's really that bad, it's at least worth a try.

And ANY carrier that carries the iPhone will give lip service to iPhone users. Don't be mistaken that AT&T has the exclusive rights to handset-specific marketing.

As far as the news is concerned, do you really think they give a rat's ass about cell service? Short of a nationwide outage (like what happened to Blackberry users when RIMM crashed a couple of years ago), it's not newsworthy. Then again, most of the crap on the "news" nowadays isn't newsworthy...

Mr Mark Booth you are so wrong. You will not need to have iTunes 9 or 3.1 to take advantage of MMS. I bet you a thousand internets.

Why Apple didn't go with Sprint and the "Now Network" I will never understand.

Now means now--not later.

According to all the "Network News" all of California is burning in a wildfire at least every two months. At the rate the news reports the fires one would think the whole state should be a smoldering ruin.

Just goes to prove how "network news" stations like to sensationalize things for the sake of ratings...as if that's a surprise to anybody.
