Please please... go ahead and flock to Verizon! Enjoy the limitations of EV-DO. I will enjoy the improvement of the AT&T network, when half of the iPhone users jump networks.

Exactly. While Verizon may have a more robust network in some places as far as 3G goes, any iPhone that would come out for it this year will be limited by EVDO. The main limitation being the inability to do voice and data at the same time, thus negating the option of ever checking other apps while on a voice call. In another two years when LTE has become more widespread, then maybe I would consider a Verizon iPhone if it exists. I don't personally have any problems with AT&T here in the northeast U.S., so I'm in no rush to jump ship.

If they are blocked for June, wouldn't that point to an early June release?

How would it make sense to block out June, then release the phone in July?

Any Verizon vacation block would involve making their employees taking the stock Verizon iPhones out of their boxes, erasing iTunes, adding Vcast, and putting them back in the boxes.

+1 :p Welcome that change, Vfanboys!

+2 Totally waiting for when a third of AT&T's subscribers jump to another network, and let the rest of us happy AT&T users be. Contrary to popular belief people, there are those that are happy on the big striped globe network.

Steve-O said that this iPhone is going to be an "A+ Update". I honor the place where his words and reality become one.

Enough with the "Verizon-can't-do-voice-and-data-simultaneously" bit. WE GET IT! I've been with VZW since 2000, and I've never once had a situation where I've ever had the need to do both at once.

What about all those folks that have no native 3G coverage for AT&T, that only get EDGE? Hhmm? That's right, they can't do voice and data together either. I don't hear them complaining too loudly.

AT&T fanboys (if you wanna be called that), get over yourselves. Apple is a business, they will make phones for other non-GSM carriers, end of story. I'll be laughing while I keep my calls connected on an iPhone, and you are dropping them.

Better network > "voice and data together" any day of the week.

can i just say if at all possible, DO NOT go to an ATT store to buy an iphone.

Last time I went to one resulted in me being on the phone for 1 hour and 2 additional visits at different ATT stores. (ended up at apple after all of this).

the main issue is that ATT reps get commission through sales...hence they have little incentive to tell you the truth and essentially will "yes" you to death until you give them the credit card.

In addition, few reps stay long enough for any ramifications of bad/improper behavior to impact them.

if you work at an ATT rep and don't do any of this, congrats and you really need to find a new job.

You don't know what you are talking about. Smart Phones on Verizon are pretty much left untouched. Verizon mended their ways especially after they adopted the droid. I for one couldn't be happier, I can't stand Garden Walling and always preferred Japanese Cell Phones. What I'm worried about now is Apple starting to Garden Wall devices especially after this Flash debacle.

I have encountered the situation often enough that it's a selling point for me. I have also run into times when my phone fell back to Edge and I couldn't.

What new features does the upcoming iPhone have? I haven't seen a lot details...

I'm curious about this, too. Although I'm pretty certain that I'll upgrade no matter what since the contract on my 3G is ending, I would like to know what I'm going to be upgrading to...

I guess what I mean is, is, that I've never been in a situation that couldn't be handled by a call-back with the wanted information. Are our lives getting that hectic that a couple minutes looking something up could be a difference maker? And if you're having to rely on an iPhone to look up really important stuff in a hurry, I'd say that's an issue not for this thread.

My 1st gen iPod touch's battery has given up on me. What are the chances of a June touch release as well? Why do the releases have to be separate?

It seems someone has never used an iPhone in its entirety. Multiple times daily, I use data while receiving calls. Text during a call, push notifications.....not being able to do this would simply defeat the purpose of an iPhone. IMO. AT&T has been wonderful in Louisville. I only drop my calls in the garage under the 30 story building I work in.

They aren't likely to be updated until September-ish.

Biggest reason why, IMO, is so that all the Back-To-School promotions are over (helps Apple move inventory and sell more computers). And Apple likes their release cycles.

Never once? maybe b/c you CAN"T?!?!

a friend may call me, wonder how to get to a certain location.
I pop up google map.. direct them to location

or.. someone wants to know cost of something.
pop open safari, check prices, etc

Troll that you are switching to Verizon

Watch hoards of AT&T users switch

Stay on AT&T and get faster speeds, and now better reliability as the user base shrinks

Profit.

Smartphones are pretty much untouched on Verizon, but nice try.

If that's true, that would be a huge change from what it was 2 to 3 years ago when I left them for AT&T and the iPhone. I stuck with Windows Mobile and Verizon for a long time hoping Microsoft would get their act together and Verizon would stop hacking the code and making it worse than it already was. I said good-bye to 12 to 18 month update cycles that risk bricking your phone and hello to an advanced design that AT&T had to leave alone. It may not be perfect, but the iPhone/AT&T combination is a leap ahead of what I had with Windows Mobile/Verizon. I know for sure that Verizon will have to leave the iPhone alone if they want it on their network. Thank you, Steve Jobs, for changing the model.

Exactly! This is pretty well exactly what Apple's vision of the way an iPhone is used for too. Every one of their ads lately has the user doing exactly this kind of stuff with it. But the simple tasks they do in the ads would be impossible if they were on VZW.

Most likely the releases are separated for logistical reasons. Apple is lightly staffed and I don't think they could handle launching multiple new product lines all at the same time.

Plus, they benefit from increasing mindshare by separating product releases: they get attention at different times of the year (spring for iPads, summer for iPhones, fall for iPods, Macs scattered throughout the year).

As we have seen from the U.S. iPad launch and the subsequent delay of the international launch, it appears that the supply chain couldn't handle multiple product line releases. I doubt that Apple's suppliers could pump out enough silicon (processors/memory) and touchscreen displays to launch the iPad, iPhone, and iPods simultaneously.

Easier for Apple, easier for its suppliers, easier for its channel partners.

I would say that the chances of a June iPod touch release are about 0.5%.

Not many rumors buzzing around on new features or design so far? I am sure they will update the phones again but wonder if it will be a small change like the 3Gs?

Hopefully the 2010 version will be more impressive than the 3G->3GS changes. Apple/AT&T needs to come up with something to talk me into upgrading my soon to be 2 y/o, out of contract iPhone 3G! A compass won't do it!

If the new iPhone isn't impressive, I wonder if AT&T is betting everyone with a 3G who's out of contract, will keep their 3G on AT&T, since they can't take their current hardware elsewhere?!

Come on out with the solar cells in the LCD, front facing 5MP camera, faster processor, cheap tethering, customizible DVR/TV controller interface/transmitter and less-breakable glass/digitizer/LCD!!!
