AT&T Block on Employee Vacations for June Hints at iPhone Launch

I'm not interested in getting into the Verizon vs. AT&T brawl, but from what I've experienced with Verizon, they're the last company I would go to. I'm always amazed that they have such a good reputation. I'm not sure what they've done to deserve it. Their customer service is abhorrent. They are known for nickel-and-diming their subscribers. Their early contract termination fees are inordinately high (highest in the industry, last I read.) They are under investigation in several states for their deceptive billing practices. And in the part of the country where I live, their coverage is no better or worse than AT&T's (been on both, experience is about equal.)
Given my choice of the two, I would go with AT&T by default. Not because of any fanboy loyalty but because I've seen what Verizon is like and want no part of it. I don't get why they continue to have such a great reputation.
regardless of the fact that I'm anxious to see the new iPhone I find it outrageous that, on a regular basis now, employees of AT&T can't seem to take time off during June (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), pathetic, not even the ones with kids that want to spend part of the summer holidays with them? As if that stupid phone (pardon me) is worth more than the people who are being forced into this.
I'm glad we have a little "socialism" in europe and don't have to put up with crap like that! Shame on such an unfriendly system!

We have been through this before. If you work in retail, it's part of the territory.
AT&T employees who do not work in retail or certain customer service/operations groups will probably be free to take time off in June.
If you want more flexibility in planning your time off, don't work in retail or the hospitality industry.
In the last Consumer Reports survey of U.S. cellular providers, Verizon nudged out the others by a margin that was just above the threshold of statistical significance. No U.S. mobile operator had great scores.
Basically, Verizon is a 37" giant in a kingdom of three-foot midgets.
American consumers "enjoy" the industrialized world's worst cellular offerings: overpriced and underperforming. No American cellular customer should be happy with their carrier.
As a business owner, I have not had the chance to go on a vacation for many years. I honestly don't remember the last time I had a day off. (other than the day I had to go to a funeral.) The idea of taking a two day weekend seems a bit insane.
People who work for a company should not be required to work as hard as the people who own it. I would expect the people who work for a company to make it a priority to get things done when there are things that need to be done.

My wife and I play iPhone hand-me-down every year. Of course I get the newest model and she gets the previous year's. BUT...(wink--hint) I do one thing. As my iPhone is at the end of it's 10th month, I go to the "genius" bar complaining that the screen locks up. They open a case number and tell me to go home and do a clean restore.
4 weeks later I go back and say "It still locks up sometimes. Usually while web surfing but sometime while sending texts. Just a couple of times a week". They whip out a replacement iPhone but I object. "I don't want a refurbished phone that was someone else's problem." Apple say's "We don't put our refurbished iPhones as warranty replacements. This one is new and unused but without the nice box and accessories."
I go home with a new iPhone with a fresh battery and no scratches. A month later when the new model arrives, I get it and hand down my "used" phone to my wife.

Here's another tip:If you go to Chick Fil A you can just grab handfuls of condiment packets and take them home!Never buy ketchup or Splenda again!!
And hey-next time you're in a public restroom just unroll a whole roll of TP and stash it in your pocket!

FYI.....I printed out your post and hand delivered it to all the Apple stores in the Tampa area.... Hope you don't mind, but I also contacted TPD.....
No, no one stopped to think that because:
A.The WIFI iPad comes out in the next two weeks according to Apple.
B.June/July is Apple's acknowledged time for iPhone hardware updates.
Add to that the fact that no contract is necessary for the iPad and you can buy a month right from the iPad itself and there's pretty much nothing to support your prediction.
I can't wait until this new iPhone comes out. I've never owned one but want to wait until the updated model comes out. I was thinking about an iPad but they will do everything an iPhone will do and I already have a MacBook Pro anyway which does much more. So the phone is what I'm missing.

Just in time.. I just dropped my iPhone for the first time today and shattered the screen... gah, I almost made it the full 2 years without any damage.. so much for reselling it now... might be able to still get a decent price on ebay?

Please increase physical display size while reducing monstrous bezel!
I guess I'm going to get static for this but I really hope that the phone is going to have a major redesign. With its huge bezel and tiny screen (bezel/display ratio has actually increased from the 2G->3G(S)) it looks like some kind of outdated dinosaur. There was a photo of an alleged prototype on a rumor forum recently which looked like it had an even longer and even narrower display than the current phone. Ugly and impractical. The HTC HD2 looks like two generations ahead, imho. I personally am going to move to Android if the new iPhone doesn't have a larger screen and less bezel. What's up with Apple's recent obsession with gigantic black bezels in all their products anyway? Horribly impractical design flaw imho. I'm not buying a mobile device to cary a bezel with display around with me, but a display with bezel! Wonder who's responsible for this...Ive?

Untouched is the word. They aren't updated to nearly the extent the iPhone is. Besides, I don't want a phone where the only support I get is buying it in the store...

I've seen that CR survey you're talking about but had forgotten it until you mentioned it. I remember thinking that the take-away there was that Verizon is slightly less sh___y than the rest of the sh___y providers (your midget analogy was a lot more elegant and amusing though.) That survey doesn't back up my perception of them necessarily but it certainly doesn't contradict it either.
It does lend some weight to my question: why does Verizon continue to be perceived as significantly better than the others when the reality is that they are not much better? And given the survey, it stands to reason that there are plenty of areas in the country where Verizon is outdone by the competition.

On point with the OP, a new iPhone in June would be great, I bought 2 iPhone 3gs on Launch day ( replacing 2 iphone 3g's ) and my account is eligible for upgrade June 11th, but my wife's phone bought on the same day is not eligible until March of 2011... dont get it
