I'm extremely frustrated by this, because I ordered the 10th and my shipping status hasn't changed a single bit. What's worse, is the stock issues didn't arise until the 13th, some people have their phones already waiting to be delivered that ordered after I did, and I have a trip 800 miles away from my house on the day after the 19th, or else I wouldn't be so uptight and worried about this, because the AT&T rep assured me I ordered early enough to receive it on the 19th. Aaaaand, my credit card was charged like seven days ago.

my cousin couldnt order online because his check wouldn't be in the bank until Saturday. When we heard that they were sold out of preorders he just went to the AT&T store Saturday afternoon and they told him 7-14 day. He got a tracking number this morning and try said he can come get it tomorrow. I ordered early on the 9th and I haven't got anything yet.
 
Read further down, they contradict themselves:

att.com Preorders: Customers who preordered online will have their iPhone 3G S shipped to their home or office beginning tomorrow. Customers should be sure to examine their e-mail notification for their actual arrival date as some preorders will arrive after June 19; dates are based on when preorders were made and available inventory.

That is not really contradictive... They say that all orders will SHIP beginning on that day. Not deliver. Just because something ships does not mean they all will reach the destination the same day.

Hey all... I pre-ordered my phone (Black 32gb 3Gs) on 6/9 via AT&T.com to take advantage of the Bing cashback. I elected to have the phone shipped directly to my home.

Up until 15 minutes ago, I was getting the "In Progress" status on the AT&T website. I had three lines on the status screen: one for "Various Sim", one for the phone, and one other line. All were listed the same from the time I ordered.

I just checked my status again, and now there is only a single line, which says "Freight." The status of this is listed as "In Progress" and a Ship Date of 6/18 is listed. The carrier is listed as "FDE" but there is no tracking number... yet.

I'm taking this as a positive sign that the early AT&T ship to home orders will actually be delivered on time. Anyone else seeing a similar change on the AT&T order status screen?

somewhat similar experience to indiematt.

pre-ordered 32GB 3GS on 06/09/09 to be shipped to my home. also had 3 lines 'in progress' up to about an hour ago... one for the phone, one for the sim ('various sim'), and one for freight.

now only 'various sim' appears, with a ship date of 6/18, FDE as the shipper, but no corresponding tracking number (clicking on the link just takes me to the FEDEX site).

ATT better not mess up my pre-order :mad:
 
I know its only a phone but its still a hopeless feeling plus if AT&T screws this up I am going to be really pissed. I am more annoyed at charges going on and off my debit card all week for >$500. is this the first time AT&T has ever sold phones online to customers?? I just dont get why they are so disorganized.
 
If you call the automated line, which order number do you give? The premier order ID? The order number thats on the ATT status page? With or without the 4 digits before the dash?
 
Hallelujah, mine just change to one line as well with a ship date of 06/18/09, carrier FDE.
 
update!

A quick update: I *just* received an email from AT&T with my new phone number and a tracking number! Tracking number is not in Fed Ex system yet, but it looks like my phone actually shipped on time.

Here is the body of the email:

"Congratulations! You're now part of the AT&T wireless community in America—77 million and growing!
You will receive your new wireless phone in a few days.
• Your new wireless number is: xxx-xxx-xxx

• Your shipping/tracking number is: [tracking number]

To activate your iPhone 3G & service, you must follow these steps IN ORDER:

Step 1 – Charge your phone – for best results, leave your phone OFF

Step 2 (for iPhone 3G only)
• Download and install iTunes
• Connect your iPhone 3G to your PC or Mac
• Follow the instructions in iTunes

I used the Pre-Order number I was provided by AT&T. This number was emailed to me in a couple of confirmation emails over the last week or so.

If you call the automated line, which order number do you give? The premier order ID? The order number? With or without the 4 digits before the dash?

Yes; Bing is/was offering a 35% cashback on purchases made through the AT&T store via clicking a Bing link. For that reason, many people elected to purchase the 3G S from AT&T.com, rather than Apple.

Cash back from bing? I ordered directly from AT&T's site didn't see this? Was I supposed to go through Bing, then to AT&T Thanks
 
I had the same thing; I received an email from AT&T with the phone & tracking numbers shortly after my order status screen was updated. My guess is you'll receive a similar email this afternoon.

Now, whether the phone actually is delivered tomorrow...
