I ordered my iPhone from AT&T and the order status indicates that it shipped. I have never bought an iPhone on launch day or from anywhere other than an Apple store, and I have a question. AT&T's web site indicated that the new iPhone came activated. Does that mean that I won't have to stare at my new brick while the activation servers collapse under the weight of over 600,000 activations? I'm just wondering.

Thanks

The thought of mass-activation concerns me, as well. I do recall one of the iPhone launches being hampered by the requirement to do in-store activations and that systems were very slow.

The only solace I see is that, with staggered time zones, delivery times won't overlap. East coast will more than likely receive their shipments first and conduct their activations sooner than our West coast friends should be getting their shipments.

The pre-order was really not staggered. The internet has no time zones, and as a result millions of button clicks were registering simultaneously all over the country and the world.

I'm not sure that these phones are coming activated. The instructions on my AT&T receipt are pretty clear. Plug in the SIM, plug into iTunes, activate, sync, done.

Hopefully the process goes smoothly and the servers can handle the more staggered load as delivery trucks make their way out on Thursday morning.

I pre-ordered three of the iPhone 4's last Tuesday, checked this morning and all three say they've shipped. All said the shipping date was 6/18/10 but when you check the tracking number at FedEx it says that it has no information.

The shipping date only means that the Fedex paper work has been generated by AT&T and a Tracking Number has been assigned. No one will see it appear on the Fedex site until it is actually picked up by Fedex and scanned into their system.

Ordered mine at 3:00PM EST in AT&T store. Gave up online and just went in.

Ordered at 3:30 EST on the 15th, but the order shows the 16th. It was never listed as backordered.

I have not been charged for the device yet...

It appears that no orders with a date of the 16th have shipped, and as the hours go by it seems less likely we will be getting our iP4s on launch day...

Something must be screwy with the system. My order showed as shipped on the 17th about an hour ago, now it's saying it was shipped on the 18th. Quantity shipped is still 0 as well. To top it off, my card STILL hasn't been charged...

Ordered via Premier (new line) on the 15th at 7:00am EST and showing shipped status now.

Mine was ordered on 6/15 @ 5:30AM Eastern time and it shipped.

The Fedex number shows no status just yet, however.

At least some are shipping

I'm wondering if AT&T are purposely dragging their feet because they don't want everyone in the US to all be trying to activate on the same day (as it'll likely crash their feeble network again).

Someone posted in the att order thread that they called fedex with their number and was asked if it was an iPhone tracking number and she said they won't start moving until the 22nd. perhaps there is still a chance of getting your phone 1 day early if they are allowed to move on the 22nd overnight shipping.

I know last year all orders were held until the official launch day, but I wonder if they might want to allow some go early to avoid overloading the ATT systems on launch day for phone activations. It's already going to be horrible from what I've herd trying to activate the iPhone 4 on launch day.:(

I ordered Premiere and mine showed "backordered" on the regular AT&T site up until last night. Last night the backordered was removed...then this morning, mine showed "Shipped" and had a tracking number that was non-clicky.

Can I ask you what time you ordered?

I ordered mines 6/15 @ 6AM and still in process

dont worry, i ordered mine at 5 am on the 15th and mine still says in progress.it seems tht all the people who ordered later that me are getting theres shipped...which makes no sense.

They should allow early delivery this time

My phone says delivery on the 24th. That's fine. But for those people with a 6/23 delivery date, Apple should let them get them early because it will spread out the activations a little bit. I'm guessing the 24th is going to be a crazy day filled with "AT&T Activation Servers Burn to the Ground" articles across all the tech news sites, so anything to prevent that should be done.

That's assuming they aren't doing last-minute preparations for activation servers on the 23rd.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to which orders are being shipped, with the except of the "Premier" people, who appear to be getting the shaft.

At&t = Fail

I pre-ordered my 2 iphone 4's at 7:50am on Tuesday June 15th on the Premier site, Here it is June 21st and both orders still say back ordered. I must say AT&T really knows how to mess things up. Why go through the hassle of trying to pre-ordered phones with all the other masses and get a back order? Apple doesn't seem to have this problem. I guess I may not see the phones until July 14th. I'm so pleased!

I'm still on backorder through premier (ordered at 11:30 A.M pacific on the 15th). I know they're doing the orders by hand supposedly, so I hope I'll have a phone paired with tracking info by today, or by the 23rd anyway (since it's overnight shipping).

Ordered in person from the AT&T store on the 15th. For some reason it shows that I ordered it on the 16th. This is what it's shown ever since I got the confirmation email:
