I ordered my iPhone from AT&T and the order status indicates that it shipped. I have never bought an iPhone on launch day or from anywhere other than an Apple store, and I have a question. AT&T's web site indicated that the new iPhone came activated. Does that mean that I won't have to stare at my new brick while the activation servers collapse under the weight of over 600,000 activations? I'm just wondering.
Thanks
The thought of mass-activation concerns me, as well. I do recall one of the iPhone launches being hampered by the requirement to do in-store activations and that systems were very slow.
The only solace I see is that, with staggered time zones, delivery times won't overlap. East coast will more than likely receive their shipments first and conduct their activations sooner than our West coast friends should be getting their shipments.
The pre-order was really not staggered. The internet has no time zones, and as a result millions of button clicks were registering simultaneously all over the country and the world.
I'm not sure that these phones are coming activated. The instructions on my AT&T receipt are pretty clear. Plug in the SIM, plug into iTunes, activate, sync, done.
Hopefully the process goes smoothly and the servers can handle the more staggered load as delivery trucks make their way out on Thursday morning.
