Ordered 5:30AM EST on June 15 on ATT premier/business site. Order went to processing, was never backordered, then got this email today about it being shipped:

We shipped your recently placed AT&T Premier order.

If you pre-ordered the iPhone 4, it is staged for pickup by our shipping carrier. Because of unprecedented volume, it may be as much as 72 hours before the carrier can provide any detailed information to you. Please don't be concerned if you visit the carrier's site and specific information about your order is not provided. The information will be updated when the carrier picks up the order at our warehouse.

How to Activate Your iPhone:

3. Call 1-866-499-8008 Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Eastern Time or Saturday from 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. Eastern Time to activate your phone/device. You may be asked for any of the following information:
* Wireless Phone Number
* AT&T Premier Order Number
* 15 digit IMEI number
* 20-21 digit SIM card number

Ordered in person from the AT&T store on the 15th. For some reason it shows that I ordered it on the 16th. :confused: This is what it's shown ever since I got the confirmation email:

Same here, but I do have a paper receipt with an order date of the 15th. I think I might just go wait in line on the 24th and show them my pre-order receipt.
 
Mine was showing as backordered yesterday. It now shows shipped.

ATT is a big screw-up. Mine was ordered on the 15th (I was at 9 am in the store but of course all computers broke sown and it was than manually entered in the evening so I missed the cut-off point) and it was never backordered... No shipment yet...
Oh well, just a phone.
 
Why the need to call AT&T to activate

I just shipping confirmation email. It says under "How to Activate Your Iphone:

3. Call 1-866-499-8008 Monday-Friday from 8:00am - 9:00pm.......to activate your phone/device."

It then goes on to tell you to connect it to iTunes.

Of course, in my order confirmation email I got a link to click on to activate the phone, so perhaps this is just an extra step in order to avoid someone stealing your shipment and activiting the phone.

I never had this step when I ordered from Apple.
 
I'm just curious if someone can answer this for me, if I placed my pre-order on June 15th 1:50PM PST, should I have been one of the 600,000? I got an email confirming the order less than a minute after ordering, but AT&T's site says my order was placed on the 16th. Does that mean I'm part of the second batch (July 2nd)?

I also ordered on 6/15 at 2pm CST, but my order status says the date ordered was 6/16. It shows I have QTY ordered as 1, nothing backordered, so I keep hoping...

That sounds like my situation; sounds like we are in the same boat.

But I don't have a paddle.

And we're on that creek that starts with an 'S'.

I just got the same email as above.
notice if you are a premeir customer the order number on your status screen will be different than the real order number.

The premeir order number seems to be converted to a regular ATT order number. So there is another layer premeirs must go thru.

i placed my order on the 15th @ 5am and it said i ordered on the 16th too.i called to find out why and a few reps told me to disreguard the order date on ur order status cuz thats when it was processed.what matters is the time stamp.the only thing the reps can see is exactly when you ordered it, so its in their systems but i still got no shipping confirmation...

Strange. Welp, if we get ours July 2nd its not a big deal, at least we get it before the 14th. :apple:

A great question. Is this actually necessary? I can't imagine calling on iDay will be a great experience. Might as well leave the phone on hold, make dinner, and fly to Europe and back.

Does anyone that works at AT&T know the answer?
 
I hope Apple lets the FedEx shipments arrive early. It would be some nice publicity to counter the big Google/Verizon event.
 
Mine is showing In Progress with a FedEx shipping number. Looks like it will ship on time.

I was worried because I had to do the paper order at the ATT store on Tuesday. Looks like they did take care of us.
 
I walked into an AT&T store on the 15th around 2PM and the whole process took 20 minutes to complete...

Thus far, I'm getting the same in limbo status as a few others. It says the status is "In Progress", yet I have a ship date on the 19th. I also have a tracking # that doesn't show up in FedEx's system. Must mean that my order is on its way to FedEx!
 
I am in the same boat as some of the premier customers. I ordered on the 15th and got confirmation email at 12:22 pm EST. My order status says date ordered is the 16th so I hope the poster that said they look at the time stamps only is correct.
 
I ordered at the apple store around 9AM on pre-order day. My order shows as being "Shipped" on the 17th (Thursday). However FedEx tracking numbers don't seem to be showing up in the system. Puzzling, eh?
 
I order it on ATT store i haven't receive confirmation email. But i call ATT and they said i have to go to ATT store on thursday to get my new iphone!!!!!
 
wireless account registration

has anyone tried registering for an at&t wireless account with the number that was provided (given that you requested a new number) in the preliminary order status email? my iphone order status is shown as "shipped," but when i try to register i get the error message R314: Online account management is no longer available for this cancelled account. If you feel you've reached this message in error, call Customer Care at 1-800-331-0500. Might this be accessible only upon activation of the phone? In addition, my account still has not been charged.
