The inconsistency is still frustrating. I'm happy that at least a few people were able to get fee discounted.

I even went to the store near my house. The rep there said he knew it was silly for me to pay more to upgrade than to cancel my contract, but after talking to his supervisor for a few minutes, said there was nothing he could do to override the early upgrade fee. Then he suggested adding a line, downgrading my minutes plan because I was using 25% of my anytime minutes each month and doing it that way.

talked with rep for quiete some time, and the rep told me they do not do such thing... I also complained about data throttling and she just apologized and thats all to that. I even said im thinking about switching carrier. Nothing. Will try again tomorrow with another rep. If not im just going to jump the ship and leave for t-mobile for $30 unlimited web/txt plan...

:D:D WOW AMAZING Expereience!!

wowww ! To my above post:

I just had an amazing experience. after 2 calls to At&T over 2 days and online chat I called for the third and as I thought last time..

I started off by telling how my data is being throttled, I mentioned I am a FAN account holder, And that i was upset over ETF fees for new iPhone. The customer rep was so helpful and gave me 85 CR to my account. He also took off ETF fee for iphone 5 and Ordered it for me right away. I am very happy now :):):)

Just talked to customer support live chat - took me a couple tries, but I just got $217 credited back to me! I'm ECSTATIC. He said something about not being able to waive some sort of tax thing which is why I didn't get the full $250, but hell I'll certainly take $217. :D

just off the phone with AT&T Customer Relations after 30 minutes with a Customer Service rep who was very nice but after talking to his supervisor could only offer me a month credit on my $69.95 unlimited talk bill (so a $70 credit). He then told me to speak with Customer Relations (different than Customer Service) and ask what they could do as they have more leeway on credits...

SOOOOO, after another 30 minutes of speaking with a VERY nice CR agent, she ended up finding a way to credit me the $250 early upgrade fee (although she couldn't call it that, she actually combined a bunch of smaller credits that added up to the early upgrade fee) AND my $42.00 upgrade fee for a total of just about $300...:D

Note: I was EXCEEDING POLITE, never threatened to leave and told them I'd be HAPPY to talk them up to their supervisors after the call (which I did)...

All in all, a terrific experience that took some patience, the right people on the other end of the phone and about an hour of talktime...

I Guess it Does Work...

I had called AT&T shortly after placing the order of my iPhone 5, which totaled to $549 because of the $250 early upgrade fee, and politely asked about getting a credit on my account to offset that amount. The representative I spoke with gave me a load of bullshhh as to why I couldn't receive any credits on my account. I thanked her and ended the call. I figured, *F* it, I'll just deal with it and move forward...I wasn't about to humiliate myself and start begging.

So, last week I was sitting online, paying bills, and next up on the list was my AT&T wireless bill. My balance (three lines + two $36 upgrade charges) was $280 and I was dreading having to pay it so I said, what the hell, let me try one more time. And I got lucky.

I explained to the lady that I had called once already and that I'd been denied any credits and just accepted the situation for what it was but, upon finding out that a few friends of mine (and by friends I'm referring to my fellow MR users LOL) had gotten a "discretionary credit" to offset the cost of upgrading early, I kinda felt left out and was hoping to receive the same benefit. I told her I wasn't requesting a credit for the early upgrade fee because I understand that cannot be credited, but that I would be grateful for anything she could do for me. She stated they were only allowed to issue credits up to a certain amount before they got audited and that she would see what she could do. She put me on hold and the whole time I assumed she would be nice and credit me $72 for the two handset upgrades. When she came back she said she could do $194 and at that moment I could've tongued-kissed her over the phone and I don't even like women. It wasn't the full $250 others have gotten but I was elated with the $194 and happily accepted it.

With that said, I encourage everyone to call and plead their case with them. Yeah, I know good and well I signed up for a two-year agreement and that my upgrade wasn't eligible for subsidy yet, but still... AT&T makes PLENTY of money off of us so I don't feel bad about whining a little and talking them out of a meager $194.

Nice to hear that the credit is still being given. I'm trying to convince my brother to try but he doesn't believe me. Lol.
