Online billing chat is unavailable... Guess they got tired of answering all the questions about the upgrade. When I speak to someone I'm gonna bring up that I didn't know that they moved the upgrade date to 18 months from 12 (which I really didn't). Was it 12 months at launch for the 4S? I don't remember being told of this change either, which means you can legally break your contract with no ETF.

I was never told. I don't know if they sent out letters but I don't remember getting one. It was 12 months when I got my 4S. I've upgraded every year since the original iPhone with no problems.

That's the line I told them, that I had upgraded each year and was unaware the policy had changed for lines with a bill over $150. I haven't gotten an answer from AT&T yet. The rep told me on chat she forwarded my case to the supervisor and would let me know within the next 2 days.

I never got a letter either. In fact, this *itch, on chat last night was like, I have worked for AT&T for 10 years and we have NEVER had a yearly FULL upgrade.....I was like.....uh ya you did, I did it last year....She goes, well you shouldn't have been able too....I am like, see...this is what BS with your company, too many dang inconsistencies.

This was really weird. I chatted with several representatives and all denied me of the $250 credit but would waive the $36 upgrade fee. Until I chatted with Marlan and he gave me a random $153.26 as credit. Since it's better than nothing I'll just keep it and not complain. And once I upgrade to the 5 I'll try to waive the $36 upgrade fee.

that was funny lol.

Yeah, I don't know. My rep never denied yearly upgrades at all. She just said she had to check with her supervisor to see what they can do for me. I told her I didn't know they had changed their policy either and had upgraded iPhones early since 2007.

Has anyone else gotten a response like this? The "we'll get back to you" thing?

Just talked to them through live chat and was able to get a $200 credit, not $250 though.

I called AT&T to inquire about the eligibility of a third line I had added last year and specifically asked if the $250 could be waived since I wanted to upgrade two phones. No dice. Based on the experience of others I'll call back.

I'd take that haha. Still haven't gotten a call back from them, but they did say up to 48 hours. I hope the rep actually made a note of it. If she didn't I won't be happy.

I called 2 times today and they said no credits will be given. I told them I'd send them the link to this thread and they didn't care. They did wave my upgrade fees though.

LOL
I don't think mailing a link of this thread would be a good idea or do anything.

I called yesterday about an early upgrade and the cost. I have a Enterprise FAN number tied to be account. I go direct to Enterprise support. The agent on the other end was extremely helpful and told me that if I wanted to order the iPhone 5 through him he would give me the phone at $399 for a Black 64G. I placed my order, he waived upgrade activation, Priority Overnight shipping for free and charged my account $399 plus tax. He was great and all I asked was what the price was to upgrade. I purchased my iPhone 4S in October 2011 so technically it has not even been a year.

I guess it pays to have a Large International Company as your FAN Number and be a long time customer on unlimited everything. All he need was supervisor approval and that took 10 seconds, no questions asked.

I was going to upgrade either way no matter the cost, this just made it easier.

just got off the phone with a csr and was able to get my upgrade moved up was originally not eligeable until the 29th of november but got it moved up my wife will finally be happy and not constantly asking for my iphone 5. Also got both $36 fees waived for the trouble of my out of box damages:)

GOT IT!

After 3 tries tonight. 1 chat (told me to clal in), 1 call (told me they would call me back in a week), and 1 chat (told me to call, BUT, I told her my phone randomly resets so that would be hard so she liason'ed as much as she could and then patched me through). Kind of ironic because the call was dropped after about a min lol, but they called back.

Anyways, my line wasn't eligible until Nov 4th so I told them my situation (which is 100% true anyway), which is that we are military family and are flying out from here Nov 1, will be in transit and moving around while visiting home and whatnot until about december so wanted to do the upgrades now because it will be a while before we get settled into our new home. I tried this yesterday on the phone and they told me it was impossible so I almost gave up.

Luckily I saw this thread and the last guy we talked to got supervisor approval to simply move the upgrade date up, no credit required. So happy, but now we wait. Hopefully the shipments dont get delayed because otherwise we might not be living here anymore when they come. He assured me they would arrive before the end of October though. Fingers crossed that we will have new phones in hand before we embark on our journey

ATT: That is what we have been discussing. Your discount from your company does not provide for that.
ME: So I would only be able to waive a new line's upgrade fee?
ATT: A new line's activation fee, correct.
ATT: Even then, however, the discount information says that we are not to do that. It has to come through the company account manager at your company.

What gives?!? Was it just my rep?
I have a 4 line family plan, and was only asking to get 1 upgrade fee waived...

early upgrade fee waived

called the first time they said couldnt be done. chatted with online billing, shot down. called again. they offered me 180 credit during 6 months. i asked very politely if it could be done now because i didnt have the money for the fee + iphone 5. rep put me on hold. came back and asked for credit card and what color iphone i wanted. couldnt be happier. :D

I just checked my AT&T account and only $3 credit is left from the $153 I recently received! WTF!

Well, so much for that.

I understand there has been some misleading information being spread around by other AT&T users. Their individual situation or circumstances may have differed from our situation today. The price you had paid for your iPhone was the pricing available to you at the time you upgraded. It was not an extra fee and I apologize if you were lead to believe this. I would be unable to adjust the price you have paid for the phone.
We are aware of the websites and blogs with the scripting requests we have have hundreds of requests since they posted them . We cannot control what people put out there but this is not something we can do.

this is my case.

We have a business plan with 5 lines and we upgraded 4 lines to iphone 5 during the preorder, that 5th line that wasn't upgraded because is not eligible for upgrade until 9/19/2013 (a year, i know).
But our bill is for over $400 dlls a month and we've been with AT&T over 10 years and we want to upgrade the 5th line to a white 16gb iphone 5. Do you think they can credit me for $250 if I try to upgrade that early?

I got a 250.00 credit and I've been out of contract since April 2012, so there was no early upgrade fee on my account. AT&T's makin it rain, bishes!

Well, AT&T never called me back. I guess my gut was right. I think I'll go down to the store and talk to someone now. I wonder if the rep actually forwarded my case or she just wanted to get me off the line.

No luck for me. I'm on a corporate account and they said the line fee should automatically get waived, but cannot do it for the early upgrade fee. They wouldn't even match the difference between the ETF and the early upgrade fee -- it's actually cheaper for me to go to Verizon (with LTE that is 2x faster in Chicago). :-/

Got the fee waived.

First try was on the phone. Tried for 20 minutes to tell the CSR how ETF was more than the upgrade fee and that a few of my friends have had it changed. No go. Halfway through the call I realized she was talking about the $36 fee and she waived that. She refused to waive the $250 saying it's what the phone costs.

2nd try: online CSR billing. This time I just said, I upgraded to the iPhone 5 for $450. I mentioned that a good number of friends and family got their $250 fee waived by AT&T and was wondering if I can get it waived as well?

he first offered to waive half. I said I was a good customer for a while and had 4 lines on this account and pay over $230 per month. He said he was able to get his supervisor to authorize a full refund.

Thanks all for the advice.

No dice for me. After speaking to three different people, they said they had to get approval from the head of sales and they wouldn't do it. Ended up adding a line, downgrading my voice plan by $40 a month and got it that way :p so I saved $30/month!
